      • Yeah, tested them both and a bunch of others. I definitely prefer Omega over CM on my S3

    • So is mine albeit with a cracked screen, should I take the plunge?
Edit - this is made by LG maybe not.

      • Dude, replace the screen yourself for under $10, I did.

I got the original OEM screen for about 7-8 bucks and paid a few bucks for the 3m frame sticky tape (although you don't need it if your careful with the original tape)

Used the missus's hair dryer to get the original cracked screen off.

As long as it is your screen and not your digitiser it's damn cheap.

The end product is exactly the same as the original. Sensitivity, colours, everything.

The only thing you might have issues with is a slight watermark in the middle of the screen because you aren't using glue like Samsung did to bond the screen to the digitiser. But my wireless charger (under the case, on the battery) solved this issue.

        • Been trying to summon up the courage, watched a few Youtube videos and checked a few screens on ebay but with my fat fingers trust myself to fudge it. Now I'm thinking it might be better to sell it to someone who knows what they're doing and buying another S3?

        • @magoo:

Man it's really easy. I felt the same way but it was not hard at all.

The only annoying part is the heating for the screen removal. Takes about 15-20 mins

        • @millzy:
how do u separate the screen from digitizer bonding glue?

          do u use fish wire?

          or some thin card?

        • Hey, can I get a link to the original OEM screen for $7-8? Cheers.

    Superb phone. On one now!

      Thanks!

  • No expandable memory is such a turn off. Praying the nexus 6 will have a slot for it.

    • Yep, deal breaker for me.

    • Praying to the new big G…

    • +1

Wouldn't hold your breath. Google despises expandable memory saying it causes many complications in the file system.

      • +3

AKA We'd very much like you to spend moar $$$ on a 32GB Nexus.

        • +1

          basically copy apple tactics

    $342 delivered.

I assume this isn't Australia stock, though?

Far as i can tell it's being shipped from australia

    • +1

No, its not shipped from australia.

    • LOL The massive 'NO GST for under $1000" should have been the first clue.

Wife's S3 has been annoying me with its crap performance and battery… buying one of these is easier than trying to deal with that ;)

  • Just picked one up in store…much needed upgrade from the nexus4~!

  • Very tempted. I really dislike my current Sony Z1 and was looking at these prior to my current phone

  • Android ver. aside wouldn't it be better to get an Xperia Z (original 2013)? They have very similar specs as far as I can tell.

    • Android ver. aside wouldn't it be better to get an Xperia Z (original 2013)?

Why would it be better? The SoC on the Nexus 5 is better than that of the XZ by a not-insignificant margin. I believe the display of the N5 is better as well, though the RAM and batteries are pretty much equal. The only thing the Sony has going for it is the water and dust resistance. The N5 has NFC as well…

      • Yeah I guess so. Depends on if you really need the so called 'water and dust resistance'. It's gimmicky really, the protection is not 100% guaranteed to work (even with the port flaps closed) as the seals fail over time.

Also the issue of expandable storage. Self explanatory.

        • Also the issue of expandable storage. Self explanatory.

          True, forgot about that.

  • Just purchased. Cheers for great deal OP

Any idea on a general ETA of postage etc? Posted to Adelaide.

    Thanks

  • Just bought it, going to pick up in store tomorrow. Can't wait for it to arrive in the mail.

Been waiting to purchase this for at least 3 months. YAY!

    • You're picking it up yet you're waiting for it to arrive in the mail? wtf

      • +8

I think they mean that they don't want to wait (or literally can't wait) for it to be shipped, and are therefore picking it up instead.

      • What PrsopectiveDarkness Said.

  • the Nexus line will have an incredibly hard time competing in SEA regions where Xiaomi is penetrating,

    snapdragon 800 handsets ~$260
    MTK octacore handsets ~$170

next week will see a new budget king in the form of the new Snapdragon 805 handset

    • +1

The Xiaomi Mi3 (snapdragon) are closer to the $300 mark. Where are they $260? I don't believe the 4g is compatible here. If you are on a 4g network the Nexus is a much better phone and it's local stock.

While the Nexus may struggle in the SEA market it will be irrelevant for Australian buyers

      • While the Nexus may struggle in the SEA market it will be irrelevant for Australian buyers

Not to mention Google doesn't even sell directly to the SE Asian market. I really don't think they're going to be too wounded by whatever progress a second rate OEM like Xiaomi might make.

      • +1

the mi 3's have been marked down to $260 over here for quite some time now.

the mi 4 and mi 3S with LTE is to be announced 6 days from now.

although irrelevant to my Aussie brothers, I only hope that more of these affordable options will be brought down south this year.

for hardcore Android fans, should also check out OnePlus One, Cyanogen's pride & joy

competition is a good thing for ozbargainers

  • The nexus is fantastic phone, bought one full price when it came out. can recommend it.
Now looking for a moto g deal for the kids…

  • +1

Can we get free shipping for the charger?

  • Great, just as I ordered N5 via Google play..

However, I'll appreciate super fast delivery!

    • You can cancel

  • No Micro SD card slot.

  • nexus 5 is also cheap on kogan, but is it reliable?

    • +1

It's dear and a grey import. There is no reason to even consider Kogan in this instance

  • +1

    Just bought one, thanks!

  • Has anyone who ordered the LG G2 from Kogan-ebay deal last time got it delivered? I received an email form Kogan saying that it'll take longer as their supplier ran out of stock.

  • Ordered one, upgraded from my Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Now to look into screen protectors and cases, any recommendations?

    • +1

I got a no name tempered glass screen protector for around $6 from ebay, will never use a plastic one again

      • +1

+1 on glass protector - got my Nilkin brand one off eBay for like $11 I think. Also Spigen Ultra Hybrid case is nice quality and cheap.

    • I just bought a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case from Pro Gadget's ebay store for $16.99
They're authorised resellers and it also come with a screen protector. Here's the link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261401882611 . It comes in black, red, gray and clear.

  • I love this phone. Best I've ever had.

  • How does this compare to the Dual Sim 8gb Moto G from JB? I've had this little bargain phone for aalmost a year and I really want to upgrade.

    • Im in the same boat trying to decide. My MotoG has proved to be a relatively unreliable handset. It has good reception and otherwise works quite responsively, but it has a nasty habit of switching itself off for no reason at all, and that too when it is charging overnight (Original Moto charger from the box).

Last night my Moto G decided to give up the ghost…I take it off the charger and it would say "Battery critically low" within 2 hours, and then say "fully charged" in 5 mins on the charger…

Not happy Jan as far as Moto is concerned, But the N5 seems to get a bad rap for battery life?

      • Yeah the Moto G wasn't great but sounds like you had a really bad time with yours. My dad gave me $100 for it so I got the N5.

        • I've given mine in to JB and they have to send it to SA apparently to have it looked at…the staff there seem clueless about the ACL ("I dont care what it says, this is my procedure to follow").

Next time I'm not touching JB with a barge pole…at least OW know how to talk to customers properly.

  • Bought one hope it will arrive before my wifes bday this Tuesday :)

  • Great deal, thanks!

  • Ordered, along with the charging stand. Great deals! :)

  • Awesome deal! Mobileciti constantly delivering above and beyond! Best Telco business in the business!

  • I think I need to buy one now and sell my good old Iphone4.
You guys do trade-in but $92 for an iphone4… :-(

  • Cracked my Nexus 4 screen this morning upon arriving at work, and now have a pair of his and her Nexus 5s :P

  • +1

Perfect timing, was going to buy a Nexus 5 today, bought it here instead of from Google. Bought the wireless charger as well, will be able to compare to my Tylt wireless charger stand.

  • +1

Delivered today (according to my aus post tracking)…

    • +1

I received mine today too, thanks OP!

  • Hi OP, I have had issues with my Nexus 5. I have sent an email as per instructions of the lady I spoke with on the phone. The RA number is 78972. Please get back to me ASAP regarding this matter.

    • RA team will reply you back tomorrow with instruction of return.

      • I replied to their email and gave them my mobile number, it has been a week and no one has contacted me to resolve this issue.
