Cashback rate comparison: Starthere, Qwibble, Shopping VIP, Cash Rewards, Chill, Prplness, Lyoness

We did our annual cashback provider review on the blog but thought I'd share the TL;DR results here and poll OzBargainers on which cashback site they use (if any).

Cashrewards is the overall best cashback provider. Those who are founder level members on Starthere (former MoneybackCo members) are well off as well. Cashrewards is also the only provider to offer cashback from eBay Purchases.

Always check between the providers to see who offers the best rate (cashback is shown in deals & store pages). While rare, some hotel booking and flower sites may offer you higher prices with going through cashback. Open up an Incognito/Privacy mode tab/window to see if there are any differences in price.

    I don't use cashback sites

Comments

  • I put other mainly because although I don't really go to any of those websites, when I do go to eBay I tend to go through velocity store to velocity points rather than cashback. The reason being that I would rather the points go towards the reward seats for peak times for my usual flights of Bris-Perth twice-yearly. This along with my Velocity Credit Card.

I use to use StartHere a bit but at the time it seemed rather slow to get the cashback if at all so that put me off a little.

    • I had trouble with Velocity and appliancesonline.com.au. I did everything right. Velocity did not back me up. This was a large purchase so I was very disappointed.

livingsocial does not seem to track with starthere, so that is annoying. My most recent purchase did track, but previous ones did not.

Cudo/deals.com.au are now offering deals in Perth. I am wondering when and if cashback will be available on those.

  • Great post!

  • where is the Candy poll option

  • should put list on OURDEAL.com.au as well

    • Ourdeal only has cashback with Cashback Rewards so couldn't do a comparison with other sites.

  • Been arguing with Lyoness gumbahs for a while about their cashback. Just a warning on them, it's an MLM. You will get a max of 2% back on Cashback. The rest goes into a 'loyalty benefit' which then becomes a confusing process to maximise your returns. In order to collect the rest of their cashback you need to sign other people up and they need to spend lots of money as well.

For example Apple isn't 2% cashback but 1% cashback and 1% loyalty benefits.

The system can work if you're into the whole MLM thing, but for those of use who aren't, look elsewhere.

That being said: I've been using Start Here but looks like Cash Rewards is better.

    • Interesting. I couldn't figure out what the loyalty benefit was as even their FAQ was vague. How many people do you have to refer to receive the full loyalty benefit?

I've heard a lot of bad things about them but the cashback for offline merchants sounds promising.

      • There's multiple ways you make money (and it would take a long esssay to explain it fully).

But you have 2 downlines, those who you sign up (direct) and those who you sign up sign up (indirect). You get 0.5% from each downline's spending. So if someone spends $100 you get $0.50.

Loyalty benefits are used for multiple things but the main thing is creating accounting units. You can generate multiple units of differing values which you can then put towards your benefit cashouts. You need to generate accounting units firstly before you can cashout those benefits though. Some of those benefits are paid out in cash others in Lyoness vouchers. Basically it's a typical MLM which makes the entire thing very convoluted to understand and take advantage of. If you don't cash out then Lyoness keeps the money and only pays you out 2%.

As I mentioned, it can work if you put in time and effort and your downlines keep spending, but if you're not interested in involving yourself in something like that, then the other programs are better.

    • Quite a bit of info on Wikipedia. Doesn't look like a website a serious bargainer should get involved with.

  • For Starthere the cashback on booking.com (founder level) is $14.40 - what happen if a room cost $10/night? Does that mean it's free?

    Thanks

    • Good question. I suppose so, though I'd make a guess that 99% of the transactions on booking.com are over $14.40.

It's $10 for this place in Thailand if you want to trial it out. $3 for this place

  • Saw this at Sunrise last week where Kathy at Shopping Confessions rated her top 3 cashback sites. Interestingly CashRewards didn't even make the list.

      1. Pricepal.
      2. Qwibble.
      3. Cashback.com.au

I've never seen the Pricepal.tv link as opposed to the pricepal.com.au. A Google search shows that Shopping Confessions is the only one using that link. You can work out your own conclusions.

Cashback.com.au isn't even a cashback site. Or at least I can't see anywhere to see shops that offer cashback.

CashBack.com.au is Australia and New Zealand's leading CashBack promotional marketing specialist.

      • Kathy at Shopping Confessions is involved with PricePal hence the reason Cash Rewards did not feature!

  • Hello
I know nothing about these things. E.g. seeing posts recently for pricepal. What is the catch? Is there a thread somewhere that discusses what these are exactly and whether there is a catch?
    Cheers

  • Does gift cards and cashback stack for purchasing alcohol at dan murphy's?
