  • Mine seems to restart 2 or 3 times every time I turn it on for the last month or two.

Anybody else seeing this too ?

Nope I haven't seen your unit restarting.

    • +1

Yeah mine does. It has been doing it for a few months now. Last couple of weeks it has also been locking up the overlay, so have to pull the power. Runs extremely hot as well. But still the best device to play movies and such.

    • Usually just disconnecting the AC cable, leaving it for 30 seconds and powering back on should do the trick.

      • thanks… was wondering whether it was a recent firmware upgrade that introduced a bug ???

        • Don't think there's been a FW upgrade for at least 6 months or more now!
I do remember going through a period where one of mine did it a few times over a few months, but that hasn't happened for a long time now!
It does lock up every once in a while, and the only way you can restart it is to pull the power!
Having a few issues lately with one of them dropping some folders from the media library too!

        • Its puny 500Mhz CPU and pitiable 256MB of memory just seize up like clockwork after a while, it happens on my old first-gen WD TV Live as well.

Tends to be mainly when you're streaming or doing stuff over WiFi; I find it almost never happens when playing back files from attached storage.

remember you need to get a US to AU plug adapter with this .. i didnt.. was a sad day having to wait for the shops to open tmo

Remember this is the old model. Current model can be bought at Office works for $129

    • What the …. is the "current model"?

      • Has streaming in the title. Presumably incremental improvements. Anyone contemplating buying should probably look it up.

        • Completely happy to be proven wrong here, But…
As far as I am aware, the units sold here, and there, and aywhere else are the same thing!!!
The only differences between them is the video format of the 2 models (WDBHG70000NBK being NTSC & WDBGXT0000NBK being PAL) & the plug they are packaged with depending on the region!!!
I know in the original WDTV player (now called Mini) you could change the format, but until I get home to check I can't confirm whether you can on the Live or (as it's called on the box here) Live streaming! Which really doesn't matter on most newer TVs as they'll display both formats anyway!!!

Edit: Ps. You should also note that the price listed at Officeworks for the "current model" is $119 and doesn't state the word 'streaming' in the title either… even though I know the box will!!!

Edit2: The only thing people should be concerned with, is the warranty! I'm not sure whether WD will cover it here! From memory when I punched in the details for warranty of my original WDTV (bought from the UK), it came up as being 'Out of Region" (or something to that effect)!
Personally, I'd rather spend a couple of dollars more and buy it here… Usually for about $99!!! (or for a few of us $49!!!)

  • got mine for $88 at ofice works about a year ago, worked for a while then started asking for passwords then had to add all sort of permissions in windows to allow people on network and screw around and change heaps of settings, then it worked for a while and now it does not, would go for something more simpler if you can

  • my wd live app got an auto update while i was overseas during the last 3 months.. just returned home and the new version wont pick up the wd live on the network, probably due to old version on the unit.. now i have lost original remote so i cant drive it. Any ideas guys?

    • Apparently mine is updated on iPad too. I'd try reinstalling the app. Once you're on the same network, it should pick them up automatically. Pull the power out and back in to turn it on first though! Otherwise, get a cheap universal remote or a WD one off of eBay!
Ps. If you know anyone in the area that has one you can borrow or try out, all WDTV remotes work on all devices, even the older gen one WDTV basic remote works on the Live streaming!

      • Thanks mate, will give that a shot.. appreciate the advice.
