Not bad for the price, as I stated before, if world war 3 or financial collapse don't arrive by end of this year, the ssd prices would be stable at 250 for 500gb level.

Interesting point, the AUD-USD is still relatively favourable at the moment @ 94 cents. Think it will likely decrease against the USD, if current market trends prevail making these more expensive than they are now, if their USD price holds.

  • how does warranty go if something goes wrong? is it worldwide?
MSY have it for $285 but I assume without the adaptors

    • LIMITED THREE YEAR WARRANTY - From Crucial

I guess you can always try to contact Amazon first if anything goes wrong within the first year.

I recently had a Kindle paperwhite died on me a few month ago. It was purchased when I was travelling in Japan(¥7990~$AU80). I contacted Amazon US as it is registered with them but was told to contact Amazon Japan. I didn't think it was too much hope because this thing wasn't supposed to be sold outside Japan. Nevertheless, I contacted them, they agreed to replace mine and paid FedEX return postage.

By the way, where did you find MSY price for this 512GB SSD? I can only see their 256GB is $199. http://www.msy.com.au/ssd/13674-crucial-m550-ct256m550ssd1-2…

      • I'm not worried about the warranty from Amazon, I would rather get it locally for that little bit extra.
Look at the parts pricelist pdf.

        • Yeah, I see your point. Forgot to check the (in)famous MSY PDF price list! ^_^

  • Dude, might want to note that the mx100 is newer and cheaper.

Newer =/= Better. The M550 is a better drive than the MX100, which is more budget oriented.

      • Wasn't comparing on a performance basis, more an FYI for anyone looking for cost > performance.

      • maybe you should read the anandtech review first

The m550 use last gen memory chip but identical controller chip family as the mx100

One can see the mx100 as the evo series, which is based on another cost cutting version of cell chips that would impact on long term use, however these long term use meant writing 50 plus gb a day every day in a year constantly …

But online tests by reputable sites suggest even tri cell level evo series first gen would handle 250 tb stress test meaning 3x the recommended limite in this drives (mx100) 72tb for 3 years .
Hence given this is an old tech based mlc tech, It can last way more than 250 tb constant write. Hence one can use it in theory for over 5 years minimum.
