Just remember that Virgin Australia don't have online check in for international flights so you better check in at the desk early if you don't want to be sat in-between people, I know this for a fact as I flew with them last month don't forget to join Etihad frequent flier program as its rather good as you can cash in your air miles using http://www.pointspay.com :)

    • They do seem to have online check-in for VA operated flights. I was able to select a seat on their 77W but not on the Ethiad codeshares. In the end I only took codeshares, so yes, no online check-in for me.
Good tip on the FF program. Although I consider joining Kris flyer for the occasion to get started with collecting SQ points in conjunction with new free Citibank signature card from the other post.

      • You can select seats online at the time of booking or any time after. You can even select seats on the Etihad flights if you call the contact centre (136789 - open 24hrs/day). Or use the Etihad confirmation number on their website if you prefer to do it yourself online.

        • Incorrect:

"You can select seats online at the time of booking or any time after"

The only option at the time of booking was for the initial domestic flight.

"You can even select seats on the Etihad flights if you call the contact centre (136789 - open 24hrs/day)"

I admit I did not try to call them, I like to check seat guru and make sure I don't get restricted seating.

"Or use the Etihad confirmation number on their website if you prefer to do it yourself online."

I tried it was not possible to check in, it clearly stated this. I I have flown many times with Etihad and never had this trouble when checking in online, I now deal direct and not through the amateur Virgin site.

A little tip make sure take your silver/gold ff cards with you as I had a nightmare at check in to acknowledge my extra allowance even though my number was entered at the time of booking, I have since been compensated for this error and it was very lucky I had my card on me.

        • @stemcell:
"I now deal direct and not through the amateur Virgin site."

That's what I thought of doing only you don't get the same fare, its nearly double what the Virgin site has.

        • @reslo:

Yes but the times I need to fly are not in the bargain zones, both airlines are virtually the same price on the dates I need to travel.

5% off possible via entertainment book too i believe..

This is ridiculous pricing $1238.85 HOBART - FRANKFURT Return!!!!! 09Nov14 - 22Nov14 as but one example! I presume status and points, and as Muzzamo indicates 5% off if you have EB vouchers…although likely gone before they are issued. Oh how I wish!

    • +3

What is there to do in Frankfurt for 13 days that you can't do in Hobart? Cadbury, Mona, Huonville, Maria Island, Mt Wellington, I could go on and on.

      • +4

Most of those things aren't in Hobart, just like I don't expect the OP to hang out in Frankfurt for the duration.

        • Ok then try Salamanca market, Dick Smith, fish and chips from the floating shop etc etc

      • +3

I read through all the terms and conditions and couldn't find anything saying that you're not permitted to leave Frankfurt..

        • +5

Depends on if Frankfurt airport has a burger king or not

      • +3

you can't walk around places like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2e/Frankfurt… in hobart

        • Is that an asteroid in the top right?

        • nope, it's züperman

        • @CheapskateJake:

Is that an asteroid in the top right?

          No, MH17.

      • A lot, you just need to know where to go. If you trust the official guides, that's up to you but if you do a bit of independent research beforehand, you will find a very, fun, very intersting place.

We flew through Frankfurt at Christmas on our way back to Ireland. Spent about 9 hours in the airport coming back which was very pleasant. Very nice airport, restaurants and shopping.

Great price and even though I haven't purchased yet I'm likely to.

I found Adelaide to Dublin with my 2 year old (first time to see his grandparents) for under yes under $2000.
ADL - MEL - ABU - DUB rtn

    Thanks OP!

  • Frankfurt is a pretty boring place but happy to say that BNE-TXL (berlin) comes in at an incredible $1236 return

    • Obviously you do not know it too well. There are lots of fun, intersting, and unique places to go visit, and do things.

    • Im also looking at Bne-txl but can only find $1350. What dates are you using?

      • Sounds right to me, it can vary by a couple of hundred dollars depending on dates. Are you not happy with $1350 rtn to Berlin ??

        • +2

I wouldn't be an ozbargainer if I didn't ask for the cheapest price :-p

  • Great prices LHR-SYD return.. $1399.54

  • Flying business with etihad to Germany soon, booked through virgin and assuming the points will hit my Virgin account pushing my status to gold and perhaps platinum depending on how much flying i do prior.

In it for the status points and lounge access. Etihad membership is interesting though for cash ins of points. I take it you can't double up?

Great prices, but please put Oct/Nov travel dates in the title

  • Any idea how to get a stop over in Abu Dhabi?

    • +1

Book through the contact centre, 136789. Will probably cost a little extra due to additional arrival/departure taxes. (apx $50-100 maybe?)

  • +1

    Dublin price is mint!
Hell, I pay extra (if needed) to avoid a Heathrow stop.

    "Nooo… Were SO close!!!"

    • +1

I'm with you there. Flew Emirates back last time, direct from ADL to Abu Dhabi, bloody brilliant. I swore I'd never fly with anyone else again, but this deal is just too good. I'll gladly suffer a Melbourne leg over suffering (and it always is) Heathrow.

  • I can't find these anywhere. On Virgin's 'best fares' all the European ones are listed as around $2000. Is this sale over?

    • They may not be listed in the 'Best Fares' page but they are still available to book. I just did a search for Sydney to Dublin in November and found similar prices for most dates.

  • MEL-ZRH return is $1271 27 Nov depart and 10 Dec return. If you depart on 17 - 19 Nov, it gets down to $1165.6. Unfortunately my work doesn't allot me to leave before 27 Nov, so this will be my choice. For return after 10 Dec it gets very expensive.

  • Guys anyone got cheap flights end of april 2015 syd to dub or london return may from dub to sydney pleaseee….

  • Not on this offer. Fare conditions (from memory) were for the outward journey MUST be this year.

  • This deal seems to no longer be available.

When I select the 'really' cheap flights I get a pricing error, suggesting that the fare is no longer available at that price. Similar thing happens when I try and find the same prices through a third party like Expedia.

Anyone else facing this issue? Is a store rep able to provide an update on whether all fares are sold out, or if the offer has been withdrawn at this point?

Edit: I was predominantly looking at flights to Paris from Melbourne in October/November.

    • Sale seems to be still on as Dublin can still be had for $1134.14 return in November. Paris might be booked out for the period you are looking at.

The most likely reason you are getting a pricing error is if you have selected Singapore Airlines flights in one direction and Etihad flights in the other direction. These partner airlines can't be combined to make a return fare. The prices in this deal are specific to our partnership with Etihad.

      • +1

Thanks for the clarification, and as you indicated the problem was that there was a Singapore Airlines leg.

Incidentally, I managed to get a great price to Brussels instead of Paris - just a short train ride away.

        Excellent deal!

        • I've only just noticed this deal, I don't suppose any of these cheap flights are still available to Manchester in November, or anywhere in Europe for that matter? I had a quick look, but couldn't seem to find anything under $1600-1700 (departing Nov 9 - return 28th).
