1TB WD Mybook Essential $147 at JB Hi-Fi or Less 5% at OW $139.65

590

This is a first time for me.

Yes, JB Hifi selling it for $147 for 1 TB Mybook Essential (in store in elizabeth st, Melbourne). In catalogue shows only 1tb element but when you go to the store, the item is actually mybook essential and website shows the same:
http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/computer-ac…

You can bring to officeworks and get it for 5% less = $139.65.

I think it is the cheapest without any extra charge for credit card.

Details of 1 tb mybook essential, follow the link below;
http://westerndigital.com.au/en/products/Products.asp?DriveI…

It is a bit more expensive than 1tb 32mb cache WD/Seagate plus external enclosure but if you just use for music and watching movie from this should ok. Enjoy…

Hm..why should I get negative vote. JB Hifi is the cheapest compare to other shops or in staticice. Didn't I give you the best bargain. The reason you give me negative vote because I give the option to get from OW or this is not a best deal? if you want to get from JB Hifi then go for it. I thought the voting base on whether or not it is a best deal but I could be wrong because this is my first time posting.

yeah, like Wesfarmers are going to go broke - they own Coles, Bunnings, Officeworks, etc, so they know how to rip you off just the same.
      Good find Surat.

I'm sure they're going out of business, in fact they're closing tomorrow after they get a batch of us going over for our $8 discount. If it was a real problem for officeworks they wouldn't give that 5% offer, I'm sure they're only giving out offers that they can afford to.

    • At least surat didn't say go to wireless1 and make them broke.

jasonz1981 to me the "Deal" is at JB Hi Fi, surat was just mentioning what Office Works may do, Surat's post
      didn't depend on this.

  • Good Job Surat. 1tb WD mybook essential is the best bargain I have seen.

Great Find Surat - don't judge us with other people's comment
    BIG PLUS from me
    Cheers

good work Surat,Good Bargain. Please support some genuine post!!

  • Thanks Surat :) :) :)

Note: I'm personally avoiding Seagate drives since the Seagate Barracuda stories :S

  • what's with the whingeing jasonz1981? it is a good bargain …

just another option instead of OW
if you have a friend working @ DSE, tell him/her to price match or ask for a better (lower) price than $147 and then you'll end up paying even less and he/she can use the employee card which automatically give 5% off …

both would probably max out USB 2.0 bandwidth, which is around 30MB/s

i took off the negative feed back.
    thanks everyone/

    • Thank you jason1981.

    • Thanks Jasonz.

@ Dom or Hospital20005: If you find jb hifi in store still shows $178, you might mention about the online shop price $147, I am sure they will match it or get them to call other JB Hifi (the one that I know for sure is Elizabeth in Melbourne).

      • went to nearby office works.. show them the print out and was able to beat it for another 5% more.. $139.65.. even better..

  • Just pickedupmine from OW $139.65

    :)

    THANKS

  • went to JB Hifi Macq Centre @5PM .. it is indeed $147

  • This is a really good deal. I bought mine about six-seven months back for $199 from Office Works. Quite a big drop..

  • Great deal! Anything $150 or less for 1tb is pretty good price.

Thanks for the heads up - just picked up one from OW for $139.65. Took in a print out from the JB website, they were going to add postage by I told them it's same price instore so they did it on the purchase price alone (and didn't even bother calling JB's to check stock etc).

  • Wasn't so lucky with OW. Checked with jb said they had stock but the ones OW had were supposedly different and couldn't give it at that price.Anyways great deal might as well pick it up from jb.

  • What exactly is the difference between the Elements drive and the Essential besides the enclosure design??

Went to WesternDigital.com … some of the differences are here

      • i believe the essential one comes preloaded with some software too, otherwise, why wouldn't you want a shiny case with an alluring blue light :p

        • Got 1 @ OW and found out they don't do flybuys any more :(
Don't really need the software as I will format & partition it. Would be good if it come with ON/OFF switch.
Is there any tool that I can run test to see what inside this ext case?

  • Got one from OW as well, when did they start charging 20c for plastic bags?

  • +5

I just bought one in JB Hifi Chadstone and yes, it shows $147 but I asked the guy and mentioned about 5% price beat of officeworks so why don't you give me 5% less and I will take it now (be sure ask nicely and with smiles though :) ) and after 1 min discussion with the other colleague & pda to calculate and YES, I've got one for $139.60 with pricematch from officeworks written on the receipt. I am not sure it will apply to other stores though and I guess it is depend on the sales person as well. Good luck. Oh yeah..I asked this because I was planning to go to OW but I forgot to bring the print out since I was in chadstone might as well I ask and try in jb hifi and turn out they gave me one.

  • got one today at OW… no dramas.

    • You decide to buy one but no vote… is that mean no bargain!?!?!?

  • Anyone exchange hdd under warranty before? How the warranty work? Return to retail or WD?
