  • Are you supposed to pour milk first and then espresso, or espresso first and then milk?

All the pictures I see from Nespresso show their glass with a white band on the bottom, brown band in the middle, then white froth on the top. Example here: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Nespresso_DeLonghi_L…

Are you supposed to mix it with a spoon, or drink it as is? What if you put sugar in it? You have to mix it or it will stay on the bottom right?

    • You mix if before you drink it then it will go all brown and white on the top

No idea how they make it tho

    • If you put the milk into you glass first, then direct the espresso in slowly on the inside against the side of your glass you will achieve this banding. Leave the coffee to sit for a minute or so and - boom - gorgeous looking coffee to serve. You need to stir it to drink, coz otherwise it doesn't taste the best. Might take a couple of goes to get it perfect, best of luck. Have fun drinking it while you're practising!

      • Pour the milk on the glass wall inside and not in the middle of the cup?

Is there certain pods to use and certain milk?

        • Pour the warm milk in your glass first, then the coffee goes down the side of your glass.
Just use your favourite pod. I use full cream milk and Arpeggio. You have to let me know how you go!

        • @Born2shop:

I will, just to make it clear tho hahah I need (on my Lattissma+) hit the Latte button making the milk go in first, but making sure the glass in positioned so when its time for the coffee to go in, it pours down the side of the glass

Just want to share my experience, I bought a Nespresso machine when there was a cashback deal last time. Tasted pretty good coming from instant coffee to Nespresso pods. However, the pods are rather expensive (esp. for husband and wife who each enjoy 2 cups a day), and you can't use other brands or it will void the warranty. I ended up giving away my Nespresso machine and bought decent machine from TGG Ebay sale with a built in grinder and frother and am now grinding great tasting coffees at $20p/kg (half price specials at the supermarket). I find that it may be worth shelling out a couple extra hundred dollars for a good machine and it will pay itself off in the long run.

It voids your warranty? Where did you read this? How will they know you used a different machine?

I don't think Coles, L'Or or other Nespresso 'compatible' pod makers would be selling these if it voids your warranty.

      • It's doesn't void the warranty, that's just a load

        I love my Nespresso machine!!!

Well, it does according to Nespresso. Last time my U broke down while making coffee using Coles pod. I called them to ask if compatible pods would void warranty to which they answered yes. But luckily the Coles pod wasn't stuck in the machine when it was sent to the repair shop in Port Melbourne so they didn't find anything to argue against. Since then it has been replaced once more and going strong.

        • @areustillpretty: Interesting. Coles should put a disclaimer on the box saying: WARNING: Using this pod will void your machine's warranty!

        • @lostn: Yes. I would've taken it up to Coles if my machine had not been replaced for free. The same goes to L'or pods.

    • the pods are rather expensive

Twinings Tea has jumped on to the capsule bandwagon. Exclusive to Woolworth's Caffitaly system.

This week's Woolworth's special at my local store: Twinings loose leaf tea 125g — $6, Twinings Caffitaly tea capsules pack of 10 (total 25g) — $6. Only 400% more expensive per unit. Bargain!

      • I cannot understand why they make this, tea bag is not that difficult to use like coffee from bean.

        • you didn't know? design specially for people who's "rich, lazy, fat, hairless, and have all the money but no where to spent…"

          :-P

      • Manufacturer's pod coffee typically costs over $100/kg. You can buy quality beans for ~$20/kg if you wait for sales.

  • After the very special from HN last time.

This doesn't look like a bargain anymore :p

    • Yes absolutely true. I got 2 machines for $98. That's huge saving.

  • Bought it last time from HN. Didn't work properly from day 1. It made a loud noise when I turned on the machine and worked for a few weeks, then broken down. It was a piece of crap. Just returned it to Nespresso this week after contacted their customer service. They ran a diagnostic test with me on the phone and still nothing worked.

    • Just one faulty one doesn't mean crap just go and get a replacement.

Better to buy at Myer and use their change of mind refund policy. That way you get $60 and no hipster capsule machine.
