Bezzera Magica PID Espresso Coffee Machine $2,495 Delivered (Was $3,500, Save 28.71%) @ Coffee Machine Specialist

131

Full disclosure: I work for a local marketing agency that does some work for Coffee Machine Specialist ~ I'm not getting any commission for this post, they just let me know about this and thought it was a solid deal. Just to note, this is an early-bird black friday special & the machine isn't ex-display or refurbished.

This is for the Bezzera Magica PID Espresso Machine by itself (no grinder) for $2,495, down from $3,500.

In a nutshell, this is an Italian-made, E61 group head, heat exchanger (HX) machine with a PID.

According to Chris from the store, it's a pretty serious upgrade if you're coming from a Breville/Sunbeam and want to get into the "prosumer" end of the hobby (i.e. art). All things considered, getting a new, PID-controlled E61 machine for under $2.5k is a solid buy.

The main tech specs:
Iconic E61 Group Head (for thermal stability)
PID Temperature Control (lets you set the brew temp, better than a standard thermostat)
2L Copper Heat Exchanger (HX) Boiler (lets you brew and steam at the same time)
4L Water Tank (huge, won't be refilling it every five minutes)
Dual Pressure Gauges (for boiler and pump pressure)
Polished stainless steel body

To note.. shipping is also free, Australia-wide.
Just sharing this as it's a solid deal whether you're upgrading your own setup or planning a special gift for someone.

What happened to the bundle deal, as I can still see that on the website.
    $2241 with df54 included delivered https://coffeemachinespecialist.com.au/shop/bezzera-magica-p…

    • +1

Surely has to be a pricing error? $1,778.58 Magica plus grinder doesn't seem right.

      • +1

It worked for me all the way to checkout.
Worth giving it a crack. It's cheaper than what op is "marketing" for

        • Is this a good deal? It comes with a vibrating pump, I'm an amateur, not sure if this is expected for this price category.

          • +2

@charmandad: The combo I mentioned is a fantastic value option vibration pump is expected at this price point. You are looking at 3k for rotary pumps.

            • @maverickjohn: Thanks mate! May I ask if DF54 is the best value grinder we can choose in the bundle?

              • @charmandad: I'd say that or the Eureka specialita.
It depends if you want single dose or timed dose with feeder

        • -2

hey man 100% and you're not wrong, any sort of affiliation with a company may come off as a 'marketing' ploy, but this is genuinely a decent sale that I thought was worth listing. The $1778.58 was a pricing error which has been fixed now - the sale price was being applied twice in their backend, thanks for the heads up - they appreciate it 😅

          • +1

@smilingbananas: It is decent but the other deal was better, I hope they honour anyone who purchased it.
I didn't need one as my setup is better than this, but the combo was a fantastic deal.. this one is just an ok deal. Lots of competition at $2500 price point

            • @maverickjohn: I got excited that combo deal seemed pretty decent. @maverickjohn What machine would you recommend at the $2500 mark? I've used a Breville Express for about 6 years now and think its time to upgrade. My heart is set on the Eureka Mignon grinder but still unsure what machine to invest into. I'd prefer something sturdy / well built and something that won't break easily (2-4 cups a day)

    • +1

hey @maverickjohn :) 100% - it's still active and you probably saw a draft post that I accidentally published earlier (for like a minute, haha you're quick). I can only make one post per day and was sharing the machine-only sale first, and am making a post for the machine and grinder sale tomorrow once my post cool-off ends

      • +5

Why would you post/buy the machine for $2495 when you can get the machine + grinder for $2241?

        • +1

whoops.. there was an error with the way that the discount was set up for this - the percentage discount was being applied twice - once on the product's individual page, and then again on top of that on the combo page. An honest human error, and thanks for the flag! 🫶

      • Can't see why this deal is better than the previous, when the previous is cheaper. Why wouldn't you put your best foot forward first?

        Machine on its own 25xx

        Machine & grinder 22xx…

        what makes more sense?

        • +1

hey man, please see my previous reply to @Mr Buggles :))

    • thats a good power pair good if you like light roasts to be great tasteing

  • +3

a pretty serious upgrade if you're coming from a Breville

might depend on the breville machine in question, but from what i can gather - the breville dual boiler is as capable, if not more, for less than half the price.

    • +4

Depends on your priorities tbh. BDB can probably produce a better espresso (though I doubt many would taste any difference between the two) but will be landfill while the Bezzera is still pumping out shots

      • +4

Agree, I owned a Breville DB years back and it made fantastic coffee…. Until it broke and broke again and then got replaced just at the end of its warranty. I sold the replacement and bought a Rocket Giotto. Breville's are appliances and destined to fail and be replaced…. Machines like these ones will last your life time with good care.

        • +5

Experiences vary, I have an 8.5 year old Breville DB still going strong. +12,000 shots, no breakdowns and I haven't even replaced any o rings (though I really should). Only issue at present is that the steam wand leaks a little bit; I cbf fixing the ball valve.

        • My BDB is over 10.5yrs old now…. I've upgraded it to turn it on and off with Home Assistant and I've fixed the steam valve and done o-rings all around once.. i think the pump may be on its way out…. I really don't like landfill, so I've kept it going. its also a bit of a challenge finding out what is wrong and fixing it.. Oh I also replaced the triacs that died a few years ago..
This Bezzera looks so much nicer though…. I'm just too much of a cheapskate to treat myself to one…

        • Breville dual boilers can easily be fixed. parts are available online. Its a fantastic machine for the price and can be modded.

      • +3

Second this, owned the breville for a 1.5 years, was constantly breaking down, always some electronic nonsense.
sold it before the warranty ran out and bought a Profitec with an E61 grouphead. not 1 issue 3 years later.

      • +5

What scale are we talking about here?

My dual boiler has been bulletproof the last seven years, all I've done is occasionally check the seals.

      • +3

my previous dual boiler lasted us just over 10 years, replaced with the latest model earlier this year which has fixes for some of the known issues.

but like all things, it needs to be looked after and maintained

      • +2

Tbf to Breville they are replaced the parts with the highest failure rates in recent years.

Given there are alot more Brevilles on the mass market you're more likely to hear about failures.

With good treatment and water I have seen BDB lasting years and years.

        • +1

They're less unreliable with the compression fittings, but the leaky probes still cause a cascade of issues that wind up in $500+ repairs.

You're right that good treatment is key, but with the same treatment the Bezzera is almost guaranteed to last longer still.

BDB still offers amazing value, particularly here in Oz. They're just not built to last.

      • Even Bezzera will break. But you can always fix and keep it running. Bit of like RM Williams, You still need to resole. Its not like its gonna keep working without any maintenance.

Got the Magica without PID around the same time last year for about $1,900 including shipping. It’s a solid machine, though it took us a while to dial in the temperature surfing, flushing time, and OPV settings. Once everything was adjusted, it’s been consistently producing high-quality coffee every day.

  • +1

I've had an ECM Technika for about 8 years. It's a heat exchange (HX) machine too. It makes very good coffee - to the point where I will rarely have a coffee while out.

However, if I was buying new I would get a double boiler because they give you much better temperature control for the brew water. The HX machine requires a cooling flush to get the brew temp right (it's coming through the boiler at more than 100C). Even if you have a PID on your boiler, it is hard to get it right.

But….. a double boiler in a prosumer machine from ECM adds about $2K, which means you are in the territory of buying a Decent DE1Pro.

I'm on the same boat - I actually bought my Mara X from Coffee Machine Specialist (and just had its first service after almost 5 years, with the comment from the technician saying that it's an amazingly maintained machine lol). And now if I were to upgrade, I would probably go for the dual boiler. Not that I make many shots a day (usually 1-2), but more for the temperature stability. I agree that it is likely to be a waste of energy though.

I have LM Linea Micra and ECM Synchronika on my mind…

      • I upgraded from an e61 HX Sanremo to an Argos Odyssey. Great option if you only making a few coffees at a time.

    • This exactly. HX machines are not for everyone.
