We have that Mother's Choice (Made in China) and it's noticeably flimsier plastic than the Safe and Sound (Made in Australia) we also have.
As such, I question the extra safety.
Having said that, the Safe and Sound is much harder to use - the pull strap is nigh on impossible to pull through and yes, it's installed correctly, that aspect of the seat is just poorly designed.
I now reach under the seat to pull the shoulders taut and then pull the slack through.. works well.

        Ah, thanks for this tip!

  • Price in title please?

    • price add :) Ty

  • Welcome OP. $149 down from $249 sounds good, although it seems to have been around for a while? Or a recurring deal maybe since June.

    • Thank you :) Will tried to find more bargain to share here ^_^

    • I guess it is $149 down from $299 not $249

  • Great to see some discounted car seats on here. I've been looking for a deal on the platinum sict model but the best I could find is $545. Anyone come across any specials on those lately?

Fully we spent a mozza on the meridian ahr. It looked safe and nice in the store. And the only feature its got is a fluffier cover. And an extra tilt pad on the bottom to ensure the seat sits too high for you to get the kid in and out easily when forward facing. Always knocking his head getting in and out. And when it is in reverse, The frt passengers knees are against the dashboard cause the front seat has to be all the way forward as the tilt pad takes up all the back seat to front seat space.

Fully these compact cheaper seats have a heck of a lot going for them.if your going to have a few kids you can buy a few different sizes and types and mix it up through stages in development.

Mothers Choice seats generally tend to have fairly low height markers compared to other seats, so you may find you're having to replace the seat quite a bit sooner.

If you're after a seat and this one isn't suitable, BigW has baby car seats on special starting this Thursday, including Infasecure Rally for $115 ….. good buying for a 6 months to 8 years convertible booster.

    • Thanks for the heads up - I'm looking at grabbing a seat for my little one and saw the Target ones last week….she's around 8-9kgs and have an issue as she's not six months. We did a bit of a check and Big W and Kmart and have no clue which ones are better!

If you ask the manufacturers weight is the essential consideration, not age.

I think you'd get more than a stern look for turning a 3 month old 8Kg baby forward facing on the basis of weight..

Actually, weight is now irrelevant. It goes by height alone.

  • Anyone holding their breath on the release of the Isofix car seats for the Australian market? It's been more than a year since the approval was announced.

    • I gave up holding my breath (and having only 1 car with a car seat installed) after waiting 9 months… Doesn't seem to be any movement whatsoever… Manufacturers quite happy to continue making money from the old moulds?

It seems ACCC is possibly going to have the new standard ratified by the end of this month. Infasecure has announced the release of a TYPE G seat for later in the month. To be legal, it woud have to have been approved, in the same set of changes that will deal with isofix.

Manufacturers quite happy to continue making money from the old moulds?

The only hold up has been ACCC. The manufacturers have had no choice.

Isofix will only be available here in 0-4 seats - a huge disappointment.
