LG G Pad 8.3 V510 16GB Google Play Edition $244.99 Delivered from Expansys

450

I was lookin at this deal from last month, and found this Expansys deal has gone back up in price ($245 + postage). However the same LG G Pad 8.3 GPE is also on the clearance page that's $16 cheaper ($228.49 + postage, or $247.49 delivered). Exactly the same product — 8.3" full HD screen, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal, quad core Snapdragon 600, etc. I couldn't figure out the difference between the 2 but one has cheaper price.

The clearance promotion is said to expire on 10 August.

Update: Expansys is now offering this for $244.99 with FREE SHIPPING.

Is this better than nexus 7 2013? I'ved Been waiting for ages for a $250 32gb nexus 7

    • Not too sure about build quality, however spec wise it's a bit bigger (8.3" vs 7") and quite a bit faster as well (Snapdragon 600 vs S4 Pro).

      • +1

The Snapdragon 'S4 Pro' in the Nexus 7 is technically the same as the 600, so it's not a whole lot faster in practice. The only difference is that the CPU is clocked 200MHz faster (which doesn't really translate to much better performance anyway), everything else, including architecture and GPU clock, is exactly the same.

    • +1

The SoC (CPU / GPU) is a bit better on the G Pad, but they're pretty similar. The display on the N7 is smaller and therefore has a better pixel density, but you might prefer that extra inch on the G Pad. The N7 display is very well regarded (better than the retina iPad Mini, IIRC), so it might be a bit better (haven't read up on the specifics of the G Pad's display). The battery on the G Pad is quite a bit bigger; 4600mAh compared to the N7's 3950mAh. You might also prefer the aluminium build of the G Pad over the plastic one of the Nexus 7. Both are pretty good tablets for the money.

Tempting.. but I think I'll pass considering that this is being offered by expansys.

    • Have never purchased anything from Expansys. Is there anything in particular about them that makes you inclined to avoid them?

    • I ordered this tablet from the other deal and the tablet arrived very quickly. About 3 working days after order was placed. Shipped with DHL from Hong Kong.

If you are talking about the warranty then I agree with you. I wouldn't trust sending it back…

    here's a review for it: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/12/12/lg-g-pad-8-3-google-…
Comaparable battery life to the nexus 7, comparable processor, but with 64gb microsd support it's abit more attractive than n7 imo

  • Android L for this?

  • Its a nice price and all, but the s600 is starting to show its age and with rumours of the new nexus coming out later this month I'd prefer to wait and see what it has to offer since they usually are released in this price range. Also the Nvidia Shield tablet has been released, though its a bit more expensive than this, but offers around double the performance.

    • except ive been waiting for the tablet since google io… and was disappointed then. its been ages and theres no sign of it coming this month..

do you know if the nvidia shield is coming to aus?

I bought this tablet the last time this deal was on. Ordered on Thursday 18th July and I received it on Monday just after that weekend. Absolutely love it. If anyone's on the fence, here's my take on it:

    Pros
+ It's essentially like the Nexus 7 (2013) but with a bigger screen, better battery life and a microSD slot^.
+ I personally prefer the metal back on the GPE Gpad. Comfortable enough for single-handed use.
+ Stock Android. Got 4.4.4 as soon as I first turned on the tablet. Shipped with 4.4.2.
+ Standby battery life is outstandingly good. No need to jump through hoops (like enabling airplane mode/wifi off etc) to make it last all week with minimal use. Mine's currently 5 days and 14 hours in with 2 hours screen on time and still 45% left. There'll be times when I don't use my tablets much. I'd hate to come back to them (without having used them much) and have them on very low battery levels. Never had that issue with this tablet. Keep in mind though that I leave everything on. Sync (full google account sync that includes books, music, news everything), Firefox Sync, Facebook etc etc etc.
+ I get around 7 hours or screen on time before the tablet starts hitting <10%. That also depends on what I'm doing with it. If it's web-browsing only, it'll go much longer I'm sure. I'm a root user but no gimmicks. No custom kernels, no power-saving modes, nothing of that sort at all.

    Cons
    - The metal back is a finger print magnet, you can easily see the marks.
    - Not as narrow in width as the Nexus 7 so single-handed use, while easily possible, isn't as comfortable as the Nexus 7. It's definitely easier for single-handed use than an iPad Mini (if that helps in visualisation). I love the iPad Mini for its looks but it's definitely too wide for single-handed use to be comfortable. I think it's due to the screen being 4:3 instead of 16:9.

^MicroSD slot is read-only on Kitkat. I have root and it's extremely simply to enable write access. Plus it's a stock android device so rooting it was also dead easy.

If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer.

    • Hi ragflan,

what does that mean "MicroSD slot is read-only on Kitkat"? you can not save files or install Apps to SD card unless after root it?

      thanks

      • +1

That's correct. You can read more about it here: http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes

As far as I know you can see the contents of the sdcard using File Explorers that you can install from the Play Store, but you cannot write anything to them. If you have root access, you can install apps that will fix this for you. For example SDFix. This is made by the same guys who made FX File Explorer. That's the File Explorer I use. Has almost everything Solid Explorer has but I personally prefer FX.

  • Oh man… I just bought it like 2 days ago with the earlier deal.. :( Reckon they'd be able to do anything about the price difference?

i hate this guy reg. last deal nexus refurbished.

they sent me an email and asking us either refund or wait for the stock when they run out of stock.

I reply i want a refund and they reply with email saying all order will be fulfill on the weekend and suddenly today (tuesday) they refund the money after hold my money and my hope for the rest of week

    • Exact same thing happened to me too.

    • Actually, it wasn't the exact same thing. They didn't take my money! (I thought they did.)

  • I received my Nexus 7 from the deal the other day, working great amazing bargain that was!

  • +1

I bought this from Expansys last Sunday and received it on Wednesday so no complaints about delivery. I have both Nexus 7 and this pad now and I much prefer the LG but really only for size. They seem to be comparable for performance. LG screen and build is good and so far impressed with this pad. I played with the LG software one at JB and the stock Android one I bought does seem more responsive.

  • I got mine from expansys, fast shipping, great device, good price. Only issue was the charger is US pinned so they provide a cheap pin converter.

    • Hi rep,

I bought the Tab from the deal about 3 days ago, but paid the $259 for it… was wondering if you'd be able to do anything about it… If I'd known it'd be cheaper in a few days I would've held off.. :(
Would appreciate it if something could be done..

      Thanks!

        Hi Revolushenary,

We only got this price a couple of days ago and it goes back again to the higher price next Monday.

I think you still got amazing value for this item at the price paid, as with all technology the longer waited and the older it gets the lower the price becomes and the higher the risk of it going out of stock.

Due to this its only fair we do not offer changes on prices to customers who bought at different time periods.

        Regards
        Expansys

        • oh well didn't hurt to try xD , nevertheless still a good price. Thanks for your response :)

  • And ordered :)

    LG

    • Arrived this morning on a Sunday, digging it!

  • I have purchased one. Thanks for the post.

  • Looks like LG will be going the Samsung route with their tablets from now on. The newly announced G Pad 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1 all have quite lacklustre specs. All of them have 1280 x 800 displays, Snapdragon 400's and 1GB of RAM… so LG will probably be releasing another, premium line at a later date. IMO, that fact makes this a better deal for those who want a quality tablet for a respectable price.

  • Dont use this mob - they are shonky as - they let huge numbers of people purchase items when they know they dont have the stock for it and then clearly cannot keep up with the orders.

    • mine arrived in a couple of days. Can't complain about speed or quality of the device. I would check estimated delivery time.
I wanted a n7 lte but they are quite expensive and I think the extra screen size is great if you are not wsnting a single handed device.

    • I ordered Wed afternoon 6/8/14 and it got processed and just arrived today 8/8/14 3:30pm via DHL. Fastest delivery I ever got from overseas.

Now to find a proper case for it :p

      • I am still waiting for a soft gel bumper style case I ordered on what. Will post when I get it. Not many deliver to oz.

      • Not many local sellers for cases.
I bought a Nillkin case from here:
        www.aliexpress.com/item/Nillkin-Case-for-LG-V500G-Pad-8-3-4-…

        I got the Black one.

Quite happy with the quality of the case. The "wake on open" feature works well too.

        • I received the vaio case and it fits quite nicely. Not super grippy, not too thick to stick the device in your pocket, but also not too thin so that it wouldn't offer some protection in a fall.
I am happy for $10. Might also try the nilkin case, but in my experience, the bumper with a screen protector is enough for a tablet to survive the bottom of my bag.

  • I didn't get a charging adapter? It's still the American one in the box. How about others?

    • +2

The AU charging adapter was not in the box itself. Check inside the envelope again. I too thought it was not provided and was about to throw the envelope away and it dropped out.

      • HAHAHA I thought I'd looked inside, had a look again and it was in there! Cheers mate

  • bought this so thanks to the OP - have only had for a week or so but loving it. Screen seems the right size and looks great; seems fast enough too.

  • +1

Expansys is now offering this for $244.99 with FREE SHIPPING.

  • Got this, pretty great device, compared to my iPad 3 it's a little small, hands are too close to each other when typing
