Saw this online yesterday and picked one up straight away. They were not advertising it in store. Tried to get Good Guys to price match [closer to my house], they said they couldn't even get close with the price.

Here we go again! Thanks OP I couldn't find any at BigW the other day so I will try HN this time!

edit: Harvey Norman chat popped up on their website and addressed me as an Ozbargainer… very nice of them.

Ditto..went shopping at BigW yesterday and nothing.

      • Same. called 4 BigW stores and none of them have it. Must only be Penrith that have it.

  • How much are the CO2 replacements?
Just trying to work out the costs….

    • +2

      $20 for a 60 litre cylinder swap. $6 - $7 for syrups.
Edit: Including syrups, it works out as just-about breaking even at supermarket prices.
Roughly works out at dollar a litre for fizzy pop.

A bottle of syrup gives 50c - 60c a litre, gas will be about 35-60c depending how fizzy you like it.

So other than hugging trees, the only good thing about this is reducing bottle waste?

        • Also convenience and the ability to carbonate other things.

And you can make your own syrups or get them on sale, buy a larger CO2 tank or use cordial instead of syrups to reduce running costs.

        • +2

I find the recommended syrup dose is a bit strong, so be a tighta$$ (i mean OzBargainer) and run it thin for better value :)

Oh and if you drink soda water (with your own mixer) this works out a pretty cheap way to go.

You can often get the syrups for ~$4 on sale through Target/Kmart/BigW (cant remember which)

      • so , seeing it isnt a name brand drink like Coke/Pepsi, it is actually more expensive than it's competition - the cheap lemonades and colas etc.

  • Is this better then the bigw onexposted yesterday?

No. The BigW one was a killer price. This is still a good deal. Not as good, but easier to get.

I hook my SodaStream to a 6kg CO2 bottle with the FreedomOne adapter.

    http://www.kegking.com.au/gasbottlesandregulators.html

A bit of an initial outlay but haven't had to refill my CO2 for over a year now and it gets used very often.
Did the maths and works out to be about 3c per L.

Syrups always go on sale to around $3-$4, but my favourite is Bickfords Ginger Beer cordial.

    • Nice - I didn't know such a thing existed (the CO2 & Bickfords Ginger) :)

    • Bickfords Ginger Beer cordial, it getting hard to find. Woolies doesnt have it anymore.

    • Thanks for the advice. I have no idea of the dimensions of a 6kg bottle and was wondering if the 36inch FreedomOne adaptor is long enough, or am I better off with a 72"?

      • 735mm tall, 160mm diameter. Tare weight on mine is 12.7kg, plus another 6kg of gas.
The adapter will stick out sideways from the valve, with the quick-disconnect on the hose removed, it adds about 30mm.

I just have it sitting in my laundry. Just got the 36".
I'm not drilling holes in my kitchen benches.

There's a few threads on Whirlpool about this mod.

  • Please keep the discussion on-topic about the Sodastream product and the deal.

Five left in stock in the Broadway (Sydney) store just now, stacked around behind the Sodastream display at the store entrance.

  • Just checked out the store in Rundle Mall. They have it at $68, I figured I'd remembered the price wrong so didn't say anything to them.

    • Yeh my HN store had it for that price as well. I had to show the salesman the deal on my phone. They also had the bottle ticketed at $19.99

      • Same deal with me, I told them about their website and the price and they updated. Their system didn't have the bottles included so I had to mention that too.

    • Marion store (think I got the last one) also had it at $68 with no free bottles.
Salesman said they'd be losing money on the deal.
Interestingly they had the "Source" model (designer kitchen appliance style) for something like $138, wheras BigW had them for $98..
Good old Hardly's, you always know you'll get ripped off with them!

      • Surely you made him sell it to you as advertised?

        • +1

Yeah, of course… thought I'd covered that with

(think I got the last one)
