Don't be ignorant. This isn't an IOBit hatchet-job that's just a front for Chinese spamware.

When we're talking about massively bloated software packages like Nero, Office, Adobe products, Cyberlink suites, disc imaging software (Alcohol 120%/Daemon Tools) or modern games with installation sizes of over 20GB; there are literally thousands (in some cases) of left-overs that are never cleaned up by the built-in uninstallers.

I remember once I had a Nero installation where the default uninstaller refused to run due to some obscure error (as indeed is common with Adobe and Microsoft uninstallers); Revo found 4,000 something registry entries and over 800 files scattered in places I wouldn't have even thought to look.

The more poorly written the installer is (and some are based on either ancient redistributables or are deliberately designed not to get rid of stuff); the more sh*t it'll leave lying around.

A lot of user PC users are aware that modern software is poorly-written and poorly supported in many cases; so the expectation that these developers will make sure that their software packages leave your computer without a trace once you uninstall them is a pretty damn naive one to say the least.

The default uninstallers usually won't touch stuff in your user profile's AppData folder, the ProgramData folder, and pretty much everything under the root keys in your registry (Current User/Local Machine/Users) with the exception of some very obvious, token registry keys.

Over time this clutter builds up and can cause conflicts with newer versions of the same software packages (old license data left behind in the registry for instance), and used to be able to impact mechanical hard disk performance; in the case of drivers, the less-renowned manufacturers often make such poor installers that they can get rid of legitimate driver files, which can impact stability.

I've seen NTI CD/DVD Maker break Windows System Restore after uninstalling it, because the hopeless uninstaller deleted shared Windows files that the .exe called.

Revo is capable of identifying shared registry keys/files between multiple programs, so that when you uninstall one (for instance getting rid of a standalone Outlook installation, while still keeping MS Office Home & Student, did used to break Office's default program associations); Revo warns you that those files are shared and that you should uninstall the entire software package and then reinstall just MS Office to ensure full stability.

I run Revo in conjunction with an array of free and paid optimisation software (CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, TweakNow PowerPack), in addition to manual Ctrl+F searches of my registry for particular software and I still miss plenty of stuff.

Revo is indispensable in its ability to remove persistently or impossibly difficult to uninstall software, borderline malware/spyware/adware and can even trace program installations (every registry key and local file they touch) in much the same way Sysinternal's Process Explorer can, but with a much less convoluted and overwhelming interface.

I've been using Revo for years without issue; it's very well-supported, continually updated and idiot-proof enough to stop people breaking their Windows installations (unlike some other 3rd-party uninstallers).

Ideally we shouldn't have to run 3rd-party crap just to get a program to properly uninstall itself, but that is Capitalism for you.

Most programs were created to speed up and streamline processes, this is one these programs

      • but it doesnt.

        • Revo Uninstaller Pro does an excellent job, uninstalls everything without traces. And is safe to use without screwing up your registry entries even for a novice.

I only use the free version, but I actually appreciate the ability to uninstall and cleanup artifacts of the program from the file system and registry with one click, rather than relying on uninstalling and running ccleaner or some other utility separately.

But the free version gives me that for…uh…free.

  • Fantastic application and I would recommend it to everyone as well, but the free version is so good that I feel like the pro version is a bit of waste of money for regular users.

  • I've used the free version a number of times with great results. Yet to need the added benefits of the pro version… Good price for the pro version though for those that do need it.

Excellent program, completely uninstalls programs leaving nothing left which is something that a normal uninstall does not do. People commenting otherwise dont know what they are talking about.
