We are seeing quite a lot of customers choosing to remove not only their PBX infrastructure but also all their server infrastructure and move it to a "cloud" platform which over time is saving money as a whole.
The major difference is that with a Hosted PBX system you do not need to have something running 24/7 in your office and the platform is hosted in data centres where there is multiple internet uplinks.
But it does come down to personal preference and not all customers wish to manage their PBX servers…
Better off with an Asterisk Appliance and using a few voip providers 10c/15c Mobile is easy to beat if you shop around, way more flexibility and reliability if you server is local.
