groan…another deal, albeit better than last time.
Has Gerry Harvey starting consulting dick on frequency of sales?
soon there will be trouble with the ACCC on the lack of 'normal price' between sales

    • +2

As bad as DSE are they haven't reached EB Games level yet. Those guys are always having the biggest sale ever.

  • Shyyyyyeeeaaah baby!! Went shopping for Macbook Pros last night and waited. Now very happy!

This is a great deal, but Dick Smith really have a very shitty website. They make it so hard to get the specs for the machines they offer. Some people might want to know whether the machine has 256gb or 512gb hdd?

    • +1

Yes, my guess is the new ones that don't show specs, based on pricing, just flows in line with what Apple have on their website. Ie, with rMBP, $1375 is the entry model 2014 with 128Gb, 8Gb ram, $1590 same but with 256GB, $1891 2.8Ghz with 512GB storage but 8Gb ram.

That $1117 model is 2013 rMBP entry level with the 4GB ram. Nice machine but wonder how long before 4Gb not good enough.

      • -1

BEWARE, old stock: 4GB models are previous models. New ones have 8GB RAM, 0.2GHz speed bump (new Haswells).

$1,117 old, or $1375 for new.

I agree! They do not seem to have a techie doing this stuff. It seems as if whomsoever (prolly a 55 yr old) incharge of uploading technical specs onto the website is doing a lousy job and dick smith couldn't care less. Its not just the mac's , their website has a really bad user experience design, especially when it comes to specifications of products. (for eg: their are two similar DSE brand 40" tv's listed for different prices, i believe it has to do with refresh rate of the tv's but its not very obvious at the first glance.). DSE ought to train employees to do this stuff in a professional manner.

can still purchase with woolworths wish cards. Stack with them for a further 5% off.

    • Can I buy with multiple wish cards that each is less than the price to pay for?

      • no. you buy them from the RAA/RACQ/whatever/entertainment book.

        • I thought you could only use these cards instore?

  • Page cannot be found on mobile?

With all these price drops lately I smell a new model of the air with retina incl new 5th gen intel coming out very soon. Perhaps as Early as sep/oct

    • No 5th gen Intel until early 2015. Air just got rehashed so no new model until next year.

      • I'm hearing differently on this so will wait and see.. the rumour on 5th gen i5 was reported a few month back.. this may not be the case now

        • Nah. Broadwell chips for laptops of this class have been delayed until mid 2015.

As a result, Apple refreshed the entire Macbook range (Airs and Retinas) just recently. But all they did was use slightly faster clock speeds, so the late 2013 models are effectively the same.

You can buy now and know you're good until mid next year.

        • The bump up of the RAM to 8GB minimum is the biggest upgrade over 2013 models. The CPU bump is less relevant.

  • I have been waiting for HM to bring out a deal because I have gift cards with them. Does anyone know if they have just basically given up? They are still selling the old Apple MacBook Pro 15.4" 2.3GHz for $3199.

  • Are these the refreshed new rMBPs or the late 2013s?

I can't tell at all, does the model number correspond to the apple website?

    • Both. Read my comment above.

  • Safe to buy - no major updates till 2015 due to Intel's delayed CPUs.
14% is as close to the 15% you'll get from DS.

    • Just keep in mind they may not have the new MBP-R in stock yet. So the ones there will be out of date.

      • +1

The ones (Edit: for the 15.4" version) that are listed are the new models:

        MGXA2X/A 15.4”/2.2 Quad-core i7/16GB/256-Flash
        MGXC2X/A 15.4”/2.5 Quad-core i7/16GB/512-Flash

Only the latter has discrete graphics.

      • I got mine last time when they had 15% off and it was new 2014 rMBP. Definitely in stock since about 1 day after they were released. Mine was shipped and delivered in 1 business day.

        • They sell two 13 inchers. One of them 404's (probably 2014 model), and the one that works is the old model. BEWARE. New one is more expensive, $1370 or something

    • only a rumour.. this may change given its coming to chrismas and apple releasing new stuff (iPhone, new macOS version) so who knows could be on the way.. Price drops happen for a reason..

  • The Mini is due to Refresh very very soon.. would of been perfect with this.

    • Very very very very soon.
      Here's hoping, anyway.

  • last time when Dick has 15% off, I order to collect. The order is NEVER processed.

    • Mine went through albeit online order with free delivery - just give them a call and make sure they PLACE an ORDER it from the Apple store.

    • Thanks m8 Updated post.

    • I just tried and my order was cancelled after about an hr or so. Could it be due to trying to use the discount code?
