SodaStream $25 - Big W Auburn NSW (RRP $69)

410
$25 for the SodaStream - RRP $69

Great deal in my opinion. Similar to the deal a few weeks ago just without the extras.

For people that already have one, you can just buy it for the gas canister (separately sold anywhere around $40) and bottle (normally around $15 for 2), ditch the dispenser and still come up on top.

There were about 10 left at after I bought myself 2.

Please keep comments focused on the deal and not make it a political discussion.

Have to say that Is a Rael good deal! :)

        Does it work with juice?

        • Don't think so cannot be too thick. It will destroy the machine

        • @lplau: Can confirm. Using concentrated juice is wrong.

        • Just be careful about what you put into it.
If the liquid goes back upwards then you have most likely damaged the machine.

There has been a few websites which has Sodastream hacks like people making Fizzy Shiraz or Ginger Beer.

@lplau: way to not understand how these machines work….

can do juice/homebrew beer/flat coke etc, just need to make sure its cold first and only 1/2 fill the bottles. at worst it will just overflow the pressure release valve, if that happens just buzz a full bottle of water (full as in over the "max fill" line) and it will wash out the overflow.

pretty much anything with any more substance than water will fizz up more, so you have to take that into account when carbonating it. but there is no way that it can damage the sodastream machine

        • @nosdan: I half filled a Sodastream bottle with flat cider, to try and fizz it up again.

Can't remember if it was cold though… but one squirt of the Sodastream and I was covered in cider. lol ugh.

It's made me too scared to try and carbonate anything else ever again. I should give it another go, though. I clearly messed the technique up…

        • +1

@waterlogged turnip: the cooler the fluid is the more co2 it can hold in suspension. also when your doing anything but water small short bursts are the way to do it. just a few quick 1/2 second jabs on the button. it will still often overflow a little bit but shouldnt be to bad. i used to do it all the time to test out home brew beer before it was ready.

          practice makes perfect :)

        • I think everyone missed blue_panther9_9's joke. It was subtle, though, so this is a gentile nudge.

How could a sodastream deal possibly be a segway to political discussion?

    • +7

LoL! You should have seen what happened the last time someone posted up about the sodastream! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/155365

      • +2

Ha! How did I miss that post? Thanks OP

    • Segue, not segway.

      • Thanks. Damn you atuo coorect

    • There are always a couple of (profanity) who can't read instruction on ozbargain.

    • In short there is an Israeli Sodastream factory built on occupied Palestinian territory. So the idea is that if you buy Sodastream, you are actually supporting the ongoing illegal occupation and colonization of one country over another.

I think it's good for people to know where their products come from, if they were produced ethically, whether it be in consideration of the environment, natural resources, or peace and human rights. Your super offers investment options which are ethical and they do this because there is a demand for it, and these options have in turned performed better than all others lately because that's what people want to invest in. If you have a choice between supporting an ethical company over one that is not acting ethically, why wouldn't you?

      • -3

you have so totally missed the point…. and if you gave a shit about ethics even in the slightest you wouldnt even be on OzB because what ever device you are using to be on OzB is made in shitty conditions in some asian factory who gives less than a (profanity) about any of there workers….

the whole middle east thing is about some moronic religious thing about which tooth fairy they believe in….. pro tip: tooth fairy dosnt exist…. at least the poor bastards dying for your iproduct arent doing it because of the tooth fairy.. they are simply trying to earn a reasonable living while they are killing themselves for your benefit…..

What a troll. Your rant isn't worth even responding to, and your equating the conflict in question to a purely theological one is only showing your ignorance. Apart from answering the fellows question politely, which you are obviously incapable of being, your presumptions about missing the point are even more incorrect, because I think I am the only one who has actually answered his question directly.

Regarding the poor electronics workers of China, I feel for them, however there plight is light years from that of Palestinians. Their oppressors are their own countrymen, not an external force, and yes I have signed petitions to put pressure on companies that make devices there including Apple, and I think it's everyone's responsibility to try and make sure that the people and companies that can make their lives better do. Assuming that I have an iDevice again is presumptious and incorrect. I am not even going to go into my religious beliefs.

In contrast Palestine's oppressors are external, this factory is built in contravention of international law (of which Israel is guilty of breaking dozens of law on thousands of occasions) all while claiming they are a free democracy. The Chinese government is not firing missiles at civilian targets, killing women and children in a process of ethnic cleansing, nor blowing up hospitals and schools. I agree they should be increasing regulation to benefit their citizens and increase equality in their country though.

    Consumer ALERT
SodaStream profits from the exploitation of an occupied, impoverished and captive labour force in an illegal settlement on stolen Palestinian land.
Why Boycott SodaStream? (CodePink) — http://www.codepink4peace.org/section.php?id=470

    Truth in Labelling ALERT
SodaStream is NOT "Made in Israel" — its main production facility is in Mishor Edomin, an illegal settlement in the Israeli occupied West Bank.

    Unethical Product ALERT
Consumers have the right to be informed about unethical businesses profiting from human exploitation and misery, land and resource theft, and war profiteering.

Australian consumers are rightly concerned about products produced by unethical businesses, why should OzBargain shoppers be any different?
Once informed, OzBargainers can make up their own minds on whether to purchase a product or not.

Lol, didn't he already say don't start a political discussion.
You know what, if you care about that sorta stuff then there is ALOT of things you shouldn't buy:
      1. Anything made in China, as it is most likely created in a unethical Children Sweat Shop.
      2. Medicine, they are often tested on 3rd world countries before coming to us. Ethically speaking it is incorrect as they are taking advantage of their poorness to coerce them into trying the medicine.
      3. Coles & Woolworths - they use sweat shops.
      4. Cosmetics and Skin products - Animal Testing.

Haha Once you opened the pandora's box and know too much, then you will have to avoid buying a lot of things.
Just google and you will see that 50+% of the products in your house has been purchased from a unethical company.

      • it seems you know a lot ?
        lmao

      • Saying the situation is hopeless and therefore you are doing nothing about it just means you have given up. There's a big difference between what Israel are participating in and the examples you provided.

    • -1

I thought we live in Australia?

The Australian government does not consider the West Bank as occupied land, that is a fact

It is considered as under dispute, fact

Why don't you go back to where you came from?' Do us all a favour

      • "The Australian government does not consider the West Bank as occupied land, that is a fact"

The Australian government CANNOT unilaterally change international law no matter what Australian politicians think or say. In any case, their comments relate to occupied East Jerusalem, not to occupied West Bank.

FACT: The attempted Israeli annexation of occupied East Jerusalem has been declared a violation of international law, and been condemned by 7 UN Security Council resolutions including resolution 478 which declared the attempted annexation as NULL AND VOID.

Probably clearing stock thanks to boycott. Price could go down even further if you want to wait.
I personally wouldn't touch it even if they pay me and provide free shipping with triple points.

    • Why would they be clearing stock because of a boycott…

      • Many people choose not to buy so they have excessive stock and it's normal business practice to get rid of slow moving or dead stock. I'm not judging anyone who choose to buy. Just informing people that price could be lower….

        • Ahh fair enough. That makes more sense.
I assumed you were suggesting that Big W was boycotting SodaStream.

        • +3

in my store at least, it is the opposite. We've got negative feedback because stocks always get sold out pretty quickly

    • +3

If you want to boycott Israel, don't use a mobile, pc and most electronic and medical goods.

Go live under a rock somewhere.

      • -2

Yup, I agree with you xioxxio.

If you boycott them all then why are you on Ozbargain? You will have to avoid all the major chains and only buy local and most likely artesian style local to get away from all the unethical trading. lol.

Reminds me of the movie I just watched called "The East"… Every company has their skeletons, just depends on which one is revealed to the public.

        • +1

Another sweeping statement… It's OK, you don't need to justify why you own a sodastream.

        • +4

@cmyk: i own several, not because i ever use them, but caus all religion is bullshit and anyone that is stupid enough to rule there thoughts and lives based on a glorified tooth fairy story from 3500 years ago deserves every single bad second they get in life :)

          edit:
          religion is like a penis
          its ok to have one
its ok to be proud of it
          HOWEVER
do not pull it out in public
do not push it on children
do not write laws with it
          do not think with it

      • +1

Sweeping statement… I'm not judging people who are buying, just saying price could be lower as a result of excess inventory. It's ok to have different opinions without being rude.

        • They're cheap because there is a shiny new red one and these are old models. They work exactly the same.

  • +2

could be considered a killer deal

  • I tried my local and they only had the new 100 dollar model, which is crazy when both kmart and target sell the old model for 70

  • Any where else that has it in vic?

Once I buy this, my neighbours will come over uninvited

in particular the Armenians neighbors, those that still with us
