I don't understand 4k… what source will you watch above 1080?

      Samsung tech demos?

      • +2

Anyone else notice that most 4k tech demos have massive compression artefacts?

        • It annoys me when they use specialised test footage, instead they should show 10 second clips of popular movies, tv shows and sport. I want to know what the tv looks like under all conditions.

    • Sony have 200 or so movies for 4k tv owners and a special device to play them back on.
Samsung have something like the sony device coming (afaik, last read about it a while back)

    • PC games, if you have the specs to run it. Might not be common, but it's possible.

      • Until graphics cards start supporting HDMI 2.0 we'll be stuck running it at 30hz so a GTX 770 or R9-280X would probably be sufficient.

        • Ah true. I forgot that was a problem in the absence of DisplayPort.

    Maximum 5 per customer lol

spending over 3k on a TV is not the ozbargin way.

With so little 4k content 4K is not really worth paying more than triple the cost of a full HD tv.

    • +2

By the time 4k content is common, these things will cost a fraction of their current cost.

Need to get oled to a decent price point first. Worry about 4k res after we've gotten rid of the last decade and a bit of horrible grey posing as black, and generally washed out colours.

Only need 360 people to sign up with my referral ID and I score a free TV, easy!

  • Not worth paying almost 4K for a 65" TV. Might consider if it was 2K.

I love how here the RRP is $4296, yet on Dick Smith eBay store they jacked up the price from $3799 up to $4499 just in time for the Big Sundays promotion.

teli these days has so much title: "Series 8 UHD 4K 3D Smart LED TV" should add WTH

  • At this screen size? 4k? Nah, 90"? Ok sure.

  • Who here would actually trust Catch with a $4000 order? Rhetorical question I know, considering how many have been done over by them, not to mention delays and hassles with returns.

  • Pros:
Samsung upscaling technology is above the rest.

    Cons:
Even content tagged 4K has such a low-bitrate that you would have to do a direct comparison with goldeneyes to notice a difference from 1080p. There is not enough bandwidth in the world to host true 4K at proper bitrates nor any physical media technology, especially not with Australian Internet.

If you can help yourself, hold off for a few more years when OLED technology matures, comes in 4K and drops to affordability (By then, we might actually have internet bandwidth to run 4K at 40 Mbps - which is the minimum, but still lossy - while 100 Mbps bitrate is optimal for 4K… Even NBN only syncs at 100 Mbps… woah up to 2TB per movie!!) :)

  • How could one feel they ever got a bargain spending $3700 + delivery for a TV.
