  • was seriously considering this even when it was 199 then. the problem i found with this design was the bulk of the weight is at the end where you would have to lift up…. this makes it nearly impossible to hold and operate with 1 hand, and you would need to be quite strong to be able to use the jawsaw extended hands over your head.

    • These are pretty good… Got them in the last deal…

You are right, it's a bit of an effort to hold it up steady when it's fully extended… Still, much better than doing it manually… :)

Also, compared to other saws, hardly uses any oil and doesn't leak thus far….

this makes it nearly impossible to hold and operate with 1 hand

the mechanism to 'grip' the branch, requires you to hold the pole with on hand and push with the other. It won't work with one hand at all…

      • i've not seen a video of it's use, how long would it be when fully extended? also, is it pull to cut or pushing of the grey middle handle to cut?

i am contemplating this over the ryobi pole chainsaw which says it's 2.9m long, i've tested out the weight at bunnings and it seems reasonably light (I would say 2-3kg).

        • pushing of the grey middle handle to cut?

          that….

It's around 3 metres long. But very heavy. Quite dangerous to use on a ladder as it could easily affect your balance.

In saying that, it cuts really well though. Especially when you want to chop up into small logs after the branches are cut down…

If you're going to use it mainly 'extended' for cutting off limbs (tree), I'd go for a lighter pole saw.

Personally, I wanted something general purpose to easily chop up the wood afterwards for green waste, and the price of this was just right…

I agree with jv that this is good, especially for the fairer sex. (That's me by the way… now be fair with your comments please.) I bought one in the last deal as well, and having a lot of fruit trees in the backyard to prune, it sure beats sawing manually, which is what I used to do. What would have taken me a couple of weekends to complete was done in half a day!

  • This says 3.6 metres but it also includes the height of the person lifting it. It is reasonably heavy to cut tall branches but better than doing it manually. For occasional use, it's okay.

I got one in the last deal as I needed a helper to prune a tall tree. My experiences are:

This doesn't cut anything more than 10cm thick. I tried and the jaws gets jammed. It's worse when I was using the extension to cut a branch and it got jammed so I had t use a ladder to climb up to release jam. Then the chain got dislocated so another 15 mins to unbolt and reload the chain. I thought this thing was meant to speed up my work!.

With the extension, it takes a bit (too much) of effort to hold it up. I would be better off using a ladder and chain saw and in a few secs , it's job done. In hindsight, I am better off buying a chainsaw.

In short, this thing would be good if u need to chop a fallen tree (on the ground) and lots of small branches. Otherwise, a chainsaw is the way to go.

Stevo, I also got one of these in the last deal. I tend to agree with jv's comments.

I experienced the exact same issues as you did. But lets be fair…it wasn't the saw's fault… it was ours.

Like me, I bet that you didn't check the tension of the chain after using it for five or ten minutes for the first time? I ignored the instructions too! ha ha.

I also got it jammed in the tree whilst cutting, but I realised that this was simply because I was cutting the underside of a large branch and it trapped the bar…. The solution is to rotate it 180degrees and cut from above. No different from operating a regular chainsaw.

I actually returned my unit for a refund… but I'm now considering buying another at $75 :)

In summary, as per your comments, this won't replace a chainsaw but it is a very handy tool for a number of situations… and it is extremely safe.

      • argh!!..Now I get it. I wasn't paying too much attention which way it was cutting. Makes alot of sense now :). Not sure if I can still return mine for a refund now.

    • so another 15 mins to unbolt and reload the chain.

That should only take 1-2 mins after you've done it the first time…

  • Found a vid, looks a little top heavy…

As per that vid… when using the extension, you need to make sure the saw is chopping downwards to prevent jams.

I found that it would cut through anything that fits between the jaws, no problem. (but it'll only take about 12 or 13cm logs max)

  • Once again miss out on a great deal from Masters here in #$%& Adelaide.
This would've been perfect for our 2 outta control Golden Elms.
    Good find!

  • Bought one for GF - thoughtful eh ?
    Saved me hours of work….

Agree that it is heavy to lift when extended.
But the jaws grip around the branch, so can sit jaw on branch, thus weight is only temporary whilst lifting.
Much safer for average user than chainsaw up a ladder.

Chain has initial bedding-in stretch, so be prepared to adjust it after 5-10 minutes. Less problem after that.

Chainsaws are not fool-proof, so best to read instructions carefully.
