Just received an email. Appears to be for past users of the Amazon Australia app store. So if you've taken advantage of free apps in the past you should receive these. Not sure if new signups will receive them and therefore may be better suited to forums.

How can I get 500 Coins for Free?

How do I update the Appstore on my Android Device?

You should be prompted to upgrade when you open the Amazon Appstore. If you aren't prompted, please follow these steps:
1. Find and open “Amazon Appstore” on your device.
2. Go to “Settings” > “Version and Release Notes” to ensure you have version 11.0 or greater of the Amazon Appstore. If you have an earlier version, please tap “Check For Update”.
3. Enjoy! You can now use your free Coins and also save up to 10% on apps and games when you buy Amazon Coins.

    i updated my appstore however i dont see the 500 coins. it says i am logged in if i go to mysettings.

    am i missing something ?

    To see your current Amazon Coins balance, log in to your Amazon.com account and go to the detail page of any paid eligible Appstore item on Amazon.com. Your balance is on the right side of the screen, below the option to "Spend Amazon Coins."

    I see my 500 this way.

    Beware - I had 3000-odd coins via Amazon.com, had recently switched to amazon.com.au to grab other deals, then upgraded per instructions here and watched my 3000 coins 'tick over' BACKWARDS down to 500 coins!!

    EDIT - switched account back to US - now can see (on the web) I have 3393 coins again.

    Seems I now have 500 Aus coins and 3393 US coins.

    Becareful when you make purchases using the Amazon app store. I thought I was using Amazon coins when I made a recent purchase but there was no prompt for method of payment and it end up charging my credit card.

    Use the website to make the purchase and you can see where the payment source.

      I did several purchases from Amazon US app store and it automatically defaulted to coins every time.

      There was also an option (called advanced or something like that) that lets you chose how to pay. It was quite small and hidden away.

    Just updated apps and tap 500 coins button but it said 500 Amazon Coins for $4.60 = Save 8%. So why not free for me?

      the 500 coins 'button' is actually how many you have. It clicks through to a screen where you can buy more.

    I managed to get the coins after initially not having them; here is what I did:

    • Go to Manage Your Content and Devices
    • Go to the link Learn more about transferring to amazon Australia (or something along those lines)
    • Choose Shop digital content on amazon.com.au
    • I then uninstalled and reinstall the app
    • Coins showed up when relogging in

    Hope this works for others.
    NB: All my old apps are still there

      Yes, I did the same. 500 coins showed up on the top right of the screen of the phone.

      Thanks for the tip. For those lazy like me, I found that I didn't need to uninstall the app.

      Just go to settings on the Android device => Apps => Appstore. Select Clear Cache, Clear Data, and Force Stop for good measure. Now run the Appstore again and login, the coins are there.

      Yep, I had to re-install the app, then it asks which country during the app setup. Now it shows my 500 coins.

      Be careful. One of the most recent Amazon app store update asks for permissions around being able to see your calls and messages. Really shifty. I havent updated my app because of this for the past 2 months. Seems like their using these coins as a way of getting people to update their app so they can have access to more information.

    Will linking to the AUS store prevent me from accessing the US store deals?

    My US Amazon account has both my AUS and US address which I switch between to take up the regional offers.

    EDIT: saw the 500 coins without linking to AUS store.

    Just switched my account back to AU and it's not showing up, even though I've got free apps from both US and AU app stores.

    Maybe it's because I've still got 3972 coins in the US store. Did this work for anyone else with US coins?

    By the looks of it I might actually be able to download 200mb+ games with the update. Previously it would never make it to the end of the dl. Virtua Tennis and Sonic come at me (thanks to OzB for a previous deal).

      The coins stay. You will need to change back to US to use them.

      But some of us did not get the free 500 coins by changing to AU…
