200 coins per app. I have no idea whether any of the 5 apps is any good, but the 1000 points can be put to good use. Equivalent to US$10.

Edit: to get or spend coins your device needs to be linked to Amazon US. You can do that in two steps:
1) In "Your Account" under "Address Book" add any US address (hotel, fictional).
2) Also in "Your Account" under under "Digital Management" go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" - from there you find "Country Settings" on the left, pick the US address

Thanks to Cardz for his tip below, I copy it here to make it easier to find:
If you haven't already with your 1000 credits buy GTA SA
It will cost you 700 credits but you will get a further 2000 credits

  • what kind of coins ?

  • thanks

Recommend going to my apps and devices and archive 2 of the apps as they appear potentially 'dangerous' Strawberry Shortcake (it costs $20+ in in app purchases to do just about anything according to reviews, easily accidentally purchased by kids according to reviews) and Food Network in The Kitchen (reviews are terrible and permissions are those of spyware/datamining software - tho it may just be terrible development)

  • it says they arent available at my location

    • add an US address (any address) to your account and make it your default location. :-)

      • how, i cant find where to change adress

      • I have a US address as default but it doesn't seem to work.

To complicate it the Amazon Appstore shows prices in Pounds on my tablet. Weird.

        Any tips?

        • +8

In "Your Account" under "Address Book" add any US address (hotel, fictional).

Then under "Digital Management" go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" - from there you find "Country Settings"

        • argh i swtiched my country to us and I think i lost my coins. I was now able to get the iheartradio app which gave me 200 coins but now my balance says only 200 coins

        • "Your digital account is currently registered at Amazon.co.uk. Go to the Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon.co.uk"

          That explains it.

Thanks for the help, fixed through that.

        • +2

Deleted your purchases then purchase again with the US address. You will get all your coins back.

        • Same thing happened to me, only see 200 coins. after switching to US address. I managed to purchase iHeartRadio but assume i lost the other 4x200 points.

I re-purchased the apps with my US address but did not get credited with the 800 points.

It has been over 3 hours so it is not because i have not waited long enough for the points to appear.

How do i delete purchases if i purchased on the website?

        • +3

Click on "Your Account". Under "Digital Content" click on "Apps and devices" and then you can deleted individual apps.

        • Thanks Unity1 for the steps

        • Raised a support ticket with amazon last night. Logged in this morning and I got my 1000 coins. Didn't get a reply on support ticket so dunno if they fixed it or the credit was just delayed. I purchased the san andreas this morning for the 2k coins. Awesome deal OP. Good job

Finally, something good comes out of watching Beverly Hills 90210 all those years ago.

        • +7

Do you live on Hollywood Boulevard as well? We might be neighbours :-P

        • I live on 21 Jump Street, Beverly Hills 90210 :D

        • +1

Hi neighbour! I'm from across the road over at 22 Jump Street

    Thanks Team Teri.

If you don't think you'll really use an app, an option is to purchase (free) through the Amazon site and skip installing it on your device.

    • +1 That's what I did :)

      • To 'purchase' through the Amazon site directly, do you need to have set up an Android device? I don't own one :/.

        • I have an Android device linked to my account, so I can't tell you for sure, but I would presume so.

If you already have an Amazon account maybe just give it a go and see if it works?

  • +16

The apps are free. You dont need to Buy anything.

    Just to clear confusion

If you haven't already with your 1000 credits buy GTA SA
It will cost you 700 credits but you will get a further 2000 credits

  • Great! To spend coins in the store I suggest:
Touchdraw great vector drawing, editing and chart, fully compatible with inkscape.
Spacedraw(unlock key app) impressive 3d app, takes a bit to get used but very pawerfull and the team is adding many features

  • +1

Nice find team teri! Make sure to use the GTA San Andreas offer as well and get an extra 2000 coins.

Thinking I might grab this paid app, Monument Valley, with the coins. It looks kinda interesting http://www.amazon.com/ustwo-Studio-Ltd-Monument-Valley/dp/B0…

    • 'Tis what i bought - apparently it's supposed to be pretty good, though short.

    • +1 for Monument Valley. Only worthwhile thing I bought with the GTA San Andreas coins.

  • +3

$36 worth of credit thus far for nothing.

    • <sarcasm>Only</sarcasm> $36? You're not trying hard enough.

(I had a few dollars worth of coins from a long forgotten bargain)

      • Whoa.. That was a joke! Will try make it more obvious next time. $36 is more than enough credit.

In fact, I now have a fear of buying anything in case it becomes free or worse.. free with coins. Missed out on $1 because I got Paper Camera in the earlier bargain.

    • Same boat $34 of coins, nothing I want (or need)

  • +2

A bit of a shame they don't sell Titanium Backup, that's the only paid app that I really need.

  • Where do you check your Coin balance?
I have checked Amazon FAQ but it only shows the option from a kindle device

    • +2

Just click on an app that requires money (dont buy it)
It should show you your balance on the next screen as an option to use that currency

    • +4

Just go to any paid app, it will display the number of available points above the purchase button.

      • I can only see the "buy now with 1-click" button?

        • Did you already "buy" the free apps? After "buying" it can take a couple of minutes for the coins to be credited.

      • yeah i've bought those free ones

  • Has anyone tried the Wolfram Alpha app? Highly rated, but what are the advantages over opening their page in a browser?
    http://www.amazon.com/Wolfram-Alpha-LLC/dp/B004J1DBJI/ref=pd…

    • I got it, it runs some calculations and stuff instantly, as opposed to Web browser where you need to press enter. I'm happy with it given I used coins, probably wouldn't spend real money on it though

    • isnt it free from the play store?

    • I've had the app for a while. In my experience, the results render better in the app, and it comes with its own keyboard for easy access to a load of mathematical symbols.

    • Thanks TheAviator1992 & brawndo, I'll probably buy it.

Another one that could be good:
Graphing Calculator by Mathlab (PRO), costs 599 points, but you get 180 back. http://www.amazon.com/Graphing-Calculator-by-Mathlab-PRO/dp/…

I might try the free version of that one first from the play store, if good get the pro version with points from Amazon.

  • Can you only buy digital downloads with the coins?

    • Yep

Amazon Coins is a new virtual currency for U.S. customers to purchase eligible apps, games, and digital in-app items.
Redeeming Amazon Coins is supported on both Android and Kindle Fire devices (except Kindle Fire 1st Generation), and on the Amazon Appstore on Amazon.com.

      • How about PC game downloads?

        • No. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_coins_tou?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201439730&encoding=UTF8&ref=mas_dp_help

2.1 Redeeming Coins. Coins may be redeemed only for the purchase of eligible products through the Amazon Appstore.

    Item(s) Subtotal: 699 coins

    Total Before Tax: 699 coins

    Tax Collected: 62 coins

Total for this Order: 761 coins

    lol coin tax

    • +4

Oops, guess you picked a state with sales tax. You might want to move to a state that does not have that tax, I think Oregon should be good?

    • Try Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire or Oregon

      • Florida works too.

  • thx OP

  • now have almost 3000 points. when is the expiry on these?

    • "Purchased Coins do not expire. Promotional Coins expire on the last day of the calendar month one year after we give them to you (for example, Promotional Coins we give you on May 15 will expire on May 31 of the following year)."

  • stupid amazon!

    1) In "Your Account" under "Address Book" add any US address (hotel, fictional). - done that
    2) Also in "Your Account" under under "Digital Management" go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" - from there you find "Country Settings" on the left, pick the US address. - not available nowhere

    tried on:
    1. iPad iOS Safari
    2. Firefox on Windows Desktop
    3. IE on Windows Desktop
    4. Dolphin browser on Xperia Z

for this reason missed last time similar deal
and now iHeartRadio gives me …"You are not eligible to purchase this app due to geographical restrictions"…

please advise how to fix this "Country Settings"

  • I could get all but the iheartradio for some reason. Weird.

    • Saaaaaame

    • need to change your country setting. Even though you are registered on the .com site your country is probably set to australia.

    • I had already bought iheartradio free last time ;-( Any way to unbuy it so I can rebuy it and get some coins for it? ;-)

      • +1

Edit: even easier: go here, then select 'Delete' next to the app.
        https://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/your-account/myapps

Yes, there is. Go to your Kindle Libary, then 'Manage your Apps' and 'Delete'. Worked for me last week when I had bought stuff from the com.au site without coins. I bought it again from .com and got coins. Works only once (no extra points if you delete and re-buy).

  • Can you purchase physical Amazon items with these coins?

    • +1

      No

      • Damm

  • GTA won't run on my nexus5 as it's kindle fire version, am I right?
Now I am having 2801 coins (must have collected 500 free coins elsewhere before), will they expire?

    • +1

They will expire in a year as far as I can remember.

  • +1

For people unable to see points etc. Try using your laptop or personal computer. I have horrible time using my mobile phone on these amazon ozbargin deals as the mobile site is hard to navigate for device settings and does not like to show points most of the time.
Also fyi I have changed my devices 'country settings' back and forth from USA to Aus a few times now and it does not seem to effect points balance.
One more thing, I received an email yesterday from amazon threatening 'restrictions' and asking for verification in form of passport for the free kindle books on ozbargin I have been getting from the US kindle store. Now I can't get books from US store as it just takes me to page that says I'm not in the country I say I'm from. :S

    • +1

I recall having that issue with "I'm not in the country I say I'm from"

Pretty sure I used the Hola Chrome Extension to get around it ;-)

  • Thanks for sharing. I now have heaps of free apps and plenty of coins to spend on future apps:)

  • Oh no, I don't have 700 credits to get GTA… :-(
Is there any other app can would give you more coins than what it costs?

    Thanks

    • This seems the only one but it is a GREAT idea…I mean nothing like buying an app and ending up with more coins than you started with.

  • +1

Can you keep re-buying GTA:SA to get +1300 coins each time?
(may need to delete app from list of apps?)

    • Nah it doesn't work. I just tried it on my other apps. You only get the free coins once. Even if you delete the app, it still has a record that you purchased it before.

  • +1

Got the 1000 coins thanks! But I can't see GTA San Andreas on the Amazon App Store when I search for it from my Samsung Galaxy S3. Is it because I need to have a Kindle Fire to see and it and download it (because it's the Kindle Fire edition?)?

    • +2

Yes. Log into Amazon on your PC and you should be able to buy it even though it's not compatible with your phone

      • Thanks, that's awesome advice. I've been downloading, installing and then uninstalling the apps on my phone to get the coins. Buying from my PC and I don't even have to do any of that! Legendary!

  • I need more coinsss !!!

  • what are some good apps to buy?

    • Flightboard

  • cheers :D

  • Get it again for free!

  • Thanks OP :-)
