If you are on a budget, this phone is great. The GUI is a bit like IOS but with Android goodness.

Don't know if i could ever
trust a chinese designed phone. Similarly ill stay away from there Great Wall vehicle's no matter how cheap they are.

    • I used one, they're just as good as any high end phone these days.

  • Personally I'd get the TCL S950 for $180 instead of this as both don't have 4g.

That is however if you use an Optus network 900/2100

  • to 4g or not 4g?

    • not 4G. It's a speedy phone, and asks for permission, if the app wants to access something. For example it asks if SKype is allowed to take a picture.

why would anyone still want a 3G phone for ~$300?

    • +1

May be like me only using a 500MB prepaid sim.

      • +3

You do realise by reading the same amount of content, 4G only loads faster not more, right?

      • And 10x as much time to wait.

        • For someone using less than 20mb per day do you reckon that matters much?

    • +1

Because I have no need for a $500 4g phone. My plan is only 3g

      • Are you saying you haven't seen $300 4G phone deals posted recently on OZB?

        • I'm on a 3g plan. I have no need for a 4g phone.

I have seen plenty of $300 4g phones here but nothing with the specs of the mi3

    • Me! With a Snapdragon 501, ANTUTU 35K+, Excellent craftmanship (The screen of my motorola was not as good as the one of Mi3), brilliant audio through speakers, … silly to pay more

I don't think we can get it here at this price.

      • Your are wrong, the phone will be sold in Taobao (www.taobao.com). and now Taobao is able to ship to Australia.
        Great news har…!!!
You can buy "Alipay® Purchase Card" from post office to shop on Taobao. Of course you need google translate if you can't read Chinese.

        • But the question is how much is the shipping to here?

        • +2

Good luck buying phones on Taobao. If you guys think Kogan/DWI/eGlobal are bad, give Taobao/AliExpress a go and the former three would instantly appear like angels lol

Side note though if you ever visit HK definitely grab the Meizu MX4. That's one hell of a phone.

        • @maxhu:

Also another question is whether their 4G will work here.

    • ehh.. can't bear myself to buy a phone that truly looks like an iPhone 6 ripoff. Also it uses a mediatek chip which is common in Chinese phones, not a Snapdragon.

  • xiaomi why u no happy ending?

  • Most users in gsmarena reported very good phones. Only issue is that 3 users complained about GPS issues. Probably because of a slightly inferior GPS chip chosen. Getting it fixed in Australia would be a hassle. I would prefer spending a bit more on Nexus 5 with everything working plus 4G.

so thats reason you neg this deal?

      • Yeah given he was overall positive I don't get the neg either

      • looks like I cannot change the vote.

        • +1

Go into "votes" at the top of this post, look for your name, remove the vote there.

  • The specification looks pretty average and only have 4 stars rating.

    http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_3-5678.php

    • Average spec? You have to be joking! What do you regard as above average? It is a high end spec smartphone with a snapdragon 800 cpu and 2gb of ram. Upon release it was the highest performing smart phone available and would still be one of the best.

What star rating? There is price group but no review rating.

      • More mid-spec.

Beware of buying Xiaomi phones from ebay or aliexpress or dino direct. Bought one from Dino Direct and it turns out a fake. Xiaomi phones are so in demand, any bargain would end up getting a fake one.

Agreed. Bought myself and sons 3 Xiaomi MI-3 phones for SGD$169, complete with $18 credit SIM cards each from Singapore M1 and all unlocked. This means the phones cost SGD$151 or AUD$125. We have been using our MI-3 phones for 6 weeks now in Australia. Just a fantastic phone for me/us as a first time smartphone user. We now have a total of 4 MI-3 phones in our family. I do not recall anyone complaining about its worth to us. Those 4 phones could have bought us a SAMSUNG Galaxy Note 3 with spare change to use as credit. Enough Said, whenever I have used my phone I have not a small number of would be users ask me where I got mine from or how much did it cost me. Yes the price in Australia is double of what I paid for in Singapore!

    • where did you get it from in singapore - i will go and buy one later in the year. thanks
