Food for thought for those who missed it elsewhere: (http://www.smh.com.au/business/comment-and-analysis/ikea-pay…)

The sooner loopholes which allow multinationals to avoid paying tax in this country (and others) are closed, the better.

    • +4

They've been audited and they're following the law. Not shopping there won't change the law.

      • Fortunately not everyone let's law trump ethics

        • +1

But unless you're on top of every social justice movement then you probably do.

        • @thevofa: True. Though it's not about every. I should have said Fortunately not everyone blanketly let's law trump ethics

I don't care about legal tax minimisation, but i do care about the price gouging by Ikea in Aus
      http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2014/06/how-much-does-ikea-over…

      • I don't care about …

makes sense - legal tax minimization affects government's budget, whereas price gouging affects your budget. However, that's shortsighted - that government is your government.

        • Well argued. Its hard to argue that the gouging and tax avoidance aren't similar, they're both legally fine, but ethically not so much. I suppose I'm just a hypocrite.

  • If its anything like last time, it will all be sold out at 9:05am

  • whats with the separation of ikea stores across our states? deals always seem to group the states differently in various groupings? i thought it was one big multinational, are they franchised or something?

    • +1

Perth and Adelaide are the only franchise stores I believe, there are 34 franchises across the world so that is why they are separated :)
