Sounds interesting….though…..I could be wrong….don't eglobal have a bad rep for selling phones? Or am I thinking of another store?

    • +3

I think they have improved a lot lately. I ordered Moto G from them and arrived in 3-4 days. Similar experience with other user on our community here as well.

    • +1

I ordered a Tab S and it got delivered via DHL in 5 working days. No issues whatever and they communicate promptly.

Can anyone work out which SKU they are selling. The TW/APAC SKU supports LTE band 28, which I think Telstra and Optus are using for the 700MHz rollout?

Edit: Rep confirmed they are selling TW/APAC SKU, which I think is compatible with 1800 and the new 700 MHz LTE networks.

    • +1

nice..there's so many 4g bands (in use & proposed) but I suspect the 700Mhz band will be the one you want as the coverage should be better in the long term

    • Data speeds may reach old levels but they'll be present by 900, 850 3G+ for long while yet; essentially advantaged by 4G adoption. 98/99%=.9/.8GHz map.

Kogan is slightly cheaper $232 ($209+ $23 del)

    Is this phone battery better?

    • +2

Battery could have been better - 2110 mAh only.
The biggest culprit will be the LTE chip if you using it.

On the other hand, Zenphone 6 has huge battery (3000+ mAh) but screen is too bigh (6") and screen res is poor :(

I wish Asus could make a Zenphone 5.5

ZenFone 5 A500KL, on the other hand, may look almost identical with the original 5-incher, but some of its innards are completely overhauled to cater for a new feature — 4G LTE connectivity. This is great news, except that the battery size remains the same as the WCDMA ZenFone 5, meaning this new one right here might have a shorter battery life.

      • Even shorter, not good news. Me too was wondering about battery stamina more so than battery size. Although 4G usually uses more energy to run, this Qualcomm 400 chipset might run more efficiently, at least if you run it on 3G only ( hoping ). I have not read any reviews on this latest model. For me, the low battery life was one of the main negs for the ZenFone 5 3G. What do you guys think about stamina of 3G on the new 4G ZenFone 5 A500KL ???? Would love some ideas and help on this.

        • You can still get the best of the battery life if you can tweak the system properly. I'm currently using Huawei G526 which has smaller battery than the Zenfone 5, plus the Lte chip is a battery killer. Even though I'm using 3G ONLY - it still drains the battery fast. After long research, I found the best solution so far: "Tasker", one of the must have android app IMHO . Thanks to Google I created a tasker service to auto disable mobile data when WiFi is connected. It significantly improved the battery life. Greenify also helps a lot.

Consider the Zenfone 6 if it suites your taste (~$240 for the red one), otherwise prepare to tweak to get the best out of the 2110mAh battery… It's a pretty good phone for the price range if you don't like Moto G.

  • This is a 1280x720 res, Snapdragon 400 CPU phone with expandable storage.

The previous deal seems better (cept for no mircosd and no 4G): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/159404

Full HD screen + Snapdragon 800 cpu

Think i will go for the dual sim 3g im on optus 3g with woolworths/optus and for $26 to recharge online including 5 gigs and 45 day expiry i would me silly to change to 4g.

    • Good point. You are lucky to still have that old Woolies deal running. What are your speeds like on 3G where you live. For myself and many others in rural or regional areas, there still is no 4G anyway, often not even 3G. So I understand why you do not want to go for dearer 4G. If you have 4G reception, for some people the Optus $1 or $2 days could work out ok if that suits your needs and use it correctly to keep costs down. If you had a 4G phone and reception, it would be tempting to give those faster speeds a go, just for the techy fun factor/experiment.

      • Where i live it has 4g i have a 4g phone as well huawei g526 so i buy cheap $30 optus packs and use them for $2 days but the 500 meg flies away too quick on 4g. Im also considering the samsung grand duos 2 which is available for $300 delivered.

Might as well get the 4G Moto G. It will have better ROM support than the Zenfones.

My 3 year old Galaxy Tab (the original) is still going strong with Kit Kat 4.4.4 CM11. But my 1.5 year old HTC Velocity is still on stock ROM as there doesn't seem to be much developer interest and the ROMs seems to have issues. So, buy a "popular" phone if you can, the software support will last a lot longer.

(and oh, if you look through the OzBargain archives, you can probably pin point exactly when I bought these phones)
