Been following this on CCC to wait for a lower price than normal ($39.99 + delivery). Cheapest ever was $29.99 + delivery so not very far off - good enough for me to pull the trigger!

It's been chosen as the best headlamp by the Wirecutter - http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-headlamp/

Note this is the newer 2014 130 lumens model, the older 90 lumens can be found for around $50 through eBay etc.

Thanks to donkeykong for pointing out that the Black Diamond Revolt is at an all time low ($33.17 USD + del). The main differentiator is that the Revolt comes with Rechargeable batteries and can recharge them (no need for a charger). However from a little research I've done it seems the Spot is the better torch overall (http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Headlamp-Reviews/Black-Diamond…).

I got the Black Diamond Revolt for $50 (usu $99) at Anaconda a couple of months back. Fab deal! Very happy with it so far. Was the 2013 model but great headlamp for the price. All the BDs seem to get good reviews.

  • I wish it was for AA battery. AAA battery capacity is too low and expensive.

    • Read the Wirecutter article, may change your mind

    • The AAA last for ages.

This would be heaps better option for a head torch

    http://www.banggood.com/SKILHUNT-H02R-Cree-XM-L2-860-Lumens-…

    • Modes go from 280 lumens (4 hour runtime) to 5 lumens - no thanks :-)

  • I'm using the Amazon currency converter and it comes up at $50. If I use my ccard exchange it isnt going to drop $8, what's the deal?

    • 28 Degrees Mastercard or equivalent (they don't have any conversion fees).

Not sure why it's showing $50 for you?

This is what I get using $AU card:
      Items: AUD 36.84
      Shipping & handling: AUD 6.52
      Total before tax: AUD 43.36
Estimated tax to be collected: AUD 0.00
      Order total: AUD 43.36

      compared to $US card:
      Order Summary
      Items: $33.30
      Shipping & handling: $5.89
      Total before tax: $39.19
Estimated tax to be collected: $0.00
      Order total: $39.19

Amazon shipping is set rate for all of Australia as far as I am aware, so yours should be the same?

  • Try the Mountain Design Outlet stores, they have black diamond cheap. My son got one model ( can't tell as no model number is written on the lamp) 50% off, about $30-40. They have cheaper models but seemed the better one.
I think he gets a full season of Kokoda challenge training out of a single set of betteries.

    • Mountain Design is one of the most expensive camping shops I've ever been to, hard to believe they would normally have it cheap not to mention as cheap as this.

      • Well it's true. We got our from Mountain Design and because my son was doing he Kokoda Challenge hey took another 15% off and gave us a few energy shot gels for free.
I have found Solomon hiking shoes are a good price, not amazon price but ok and hiking shoes you really need to try before you buy. Also camelback hydration packs on sale at the time, cheaper that what I could see online.
They also had a free membership thing that got us another 20% off clothes that were already 40% off.
Try the retail stores and also he outlet stores you just need to look at any deals they have.

Now Kathmandu that's another story, they are expensive.

Why not get the revolt version for similar price? The revolt can use NiMH for some reason the Spot version may not be able to.

    • Good find! I'll add it to the description as a second option.

      From http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Headlamp-Reviews/Black-Diamond… -

If re-chargable batteries are not a priority, we recommend you check out the Black Diamond Spot which scored higher across all beam performance metrics, has a longer battery life, and costs about $20 less. Here is a beam comparison of the two that shows the improved brigthness of the Spot.

Edit: I believe the Spot works with rechargeable batteries, it's just that it will not do the charging for you.
