  • Meh, I know it's for a season, but you could fly and ski in NZ for that, where they have real snow and decent runs.

    • +2

You'll pay about the same for a lift ticket in NZ as what you do here, maybe a little less but not massively so. The big costs come in the mountain entry, over-snow transport, accommodation, hire gear, food, alcohol; etc etc. If you are clever there are ways to minimise all of the above. I ski Buller with the family every year, 3 hr trip in the car and I will be skiing for much much less than any trip to NZ would cost me.

Buller was epic this year after the dump. I've skied NZ, US and Japan and Buller with a load of snow is great, maybe not Breckenridge or Vail proportions or 2M of Pow like Hirafu but when it has good snow I'd take Buller over Coronet Peak, the Remarkables or Mt Shut! Plenty of lifts, great infrastructure, big variety of runs.

If these guys did the $200 now, rest in January, like everyone else does and like they did 2 seasons ago I would buy one of these now. Without that I'll wait for the weather predictions to see if I'll be making 8+ days on snow at Buller next year

      • Buller is ok but far from amazing. I'm talking/looking it at mainly as a day trip or 2 for 2 people with hire equipment, etc the price is ridiculous compared to other countries. On mountain accommodation pricing is bordering on extortion too.

  • Tempting deal. Too bad I didn't notice it when I was up there last Saturday. Might have made the difference for me.

Single day adult tickets are $118 so it will take 7 single day trips to make up for it. Of course it will be cheaper if you do multiple days.

What make it tempting is that you can share this with friends and family as I assume this is a B-Pass card which no one checks.

  • Aren't these the normal early bird prices???

    • They are [as mentioned in the description] but you can use it in 2014 (well pretty much only this weekend as I reckon the snow will mostly be gone by then). Last weekend had BEAUTIFUL skiing conditions though and so if I knew about it before I went up I would have considered getting it then.
