As part of the Victorian Government Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme all residents in the state of Victoria that have purchased Televisions, Fridges or Clothes Dryers in 2014 are eligible to claim a cash back/rebate.

      I checked the site out, at the bottom, if you click tv, and choose from the list for the model you have, you can see how much you can claim if you scroll down a bit after selecting

      It seems to be $100 for the UA75H6400AW

    Not sure why this is considered a "Bargain".. given theres about a dozen companies that do VEET rebates and this one is nothing special over the others. Should belong in the forums.

      They are special :) look at all that customer care, emails, phone, . In any event, it belongs on the deals , the other VEEYERs are entitled to post theirs too. Just like if say both Coles and woolies had $1 doritos

    Is this a wise use of taxpayer money? Did anyone looking to buy a $1k TV umm and ahh at the decision and only make it because the government was going to kick in a bit of money? How does the government know the TV will be used to retire an older, less efficient model, rather than be used as a second TV?

      It's a complete waste, but they're going to use their budget so I may as well get $100 out of it. I replaced my 60" with a 75" that may or may not use more power, I have no idea.
      Energy efficiency had nothing to do with my decision.

      If it makes you feel better you could donate it to a worth cause and make better use of taxpayers money yourself.

      Encourage consumers to buy, and then give them rebate of cash so they can go spend more is classic method of pushing up spending (hence growth), well if there is any little environmental benefit attached even better.

      Remember for every $1k TV, ~$100 GST + Company tax + wages for seller (and income tax on these) + import levies + etc.

      I don't condone consumerism, but economically it makes more sense to do this than to spend money on things that aren't generating any growth (think countless "programs" and "initiatives" by gov departments that no one uses or cares about)

        Well you're partially correct,
        Rebates push up prices & create a false bubble where your money (both as a consumer & tax payer) is redistributed to a small few people smart enough to exploit the system. Solar Panel subsidies were a great example. The VEET schemes are classic examples too, the auto power off plugs, which people just chucked in the bin because they didn't work, the LED light subsidy which purveys jacked up the price of the bulbs & get rebates from the govt.

        Good luck to the Op for creating a business to exploit these schemes, but they certainly don't do much for the wider community.

      It may be a bargain, but it is a complete waste of money.

      I'm all from getting bargains from big companies, but this is effectively coming out of the pockets of every taxpayer. Far better that the government returned the money to each taxpayer and let them decide what to do with it.

      How is the VEET scheme funded? Are my taxes paying for this?

      The VEET scheme works by allowing accredited businesses to create certificates when they help you make selected energy efficiency improvements to your premises. Each certificate - known as a Victorian energy efficiency certificate, or VEEC - represents one tonne of greenhouse gas abated and the money the accredited business makes from selling its certificates can go towards a discount on the product or appliance installed for you. Each year large energy retailers are required to purchase a set number of VEECs to fulfil their obligations under the scheme and then surrender those certificates to the ESC. The energy retailers may pass on to consumers all or part of the cost of meeting this obligation.

        Exactly why I hate VEET and other schemes like this,

        My 75 " TV is subsidised by the pensioner next door who cannot afford anything more than the CRT he picked up off the street.

        You can also replace the TV with a Solar Panel the Equation is the same, the Have nots subsidizing the haves. Another Stupid govt policy, It does benefit me but I hate it nevertheless.

      This sounds like a scheme initiated by federal Labor to increase energy efficiency or the state Liberal government trying to bribe voters with taxpayers money in an election year.

    I made purchases in 2013. If the second 3yr phase started in 2012, why can't I claim a rebate? I'm confused about how this all works ?

      Thanks bowtiehoon, at the moment we are in the 1 January 2014 - 30 June 2015 cycle or 'creation year' and are not able to provide incentives prior to 1 January 2014 unfortunately. Yet, the Scheme's phases are different to its cycles, and are usually in blocks of 3 years.

      I would assume that they aren't passing on the full value of the VEEC. So for example they give $100 for 11.17 certificates that my TV is valued at, just speculating but if say the certificates were worth $18 each then they are making $101.06 and giving me $100. No idea on the value of the certificates though.

    how can buying a clothes dryer be eligible for an energy rebate? They consume and waste the most energy out of pretty much anything, particularly compared to hanging cloths outside!!

    Anyhow, as I get cash back, I might as well buy one. The government knows what they are doing and I guess the rebate will go towards the increased electric bill.

      The VEET scheme works by allowing accredited businesses to create certificates when they help you make selected energy efficiency improvements to your premises. Each certificate - known as a Victorian energy efficiency certificate, or VEEC - represents one tonne of greenhouse gas abated and the money the accredited business makes from selling its certificates can go towards a discount on the product or appliance installed for you. Each year large energy retailers are required to purchase a set number of VEECs to fulfil their obligations under the scheme and then surrender those certificates to the ESC. The energy retailers may pass on to consumers all or part of the cost of meeting this obligation.

    Okay, have done some research… The main sites I could find that offer a way to cash in your VEECs, based on this listing for Fridges/Freezers (there will be others for TVs I'm sure):

    Were as follows:

    http://www.energymakeovers.com.au/ (currently trading at $12 per VEEC… have to create an account, fill in a form online, figure out relevant fields, print it, scan it, upload it)
    http://www.tradeingreen.com.au/forms-90.html (currently trading at $12 per VEEC)
    http://www.tradinggreen.com.au/Rebates.html (currently trading at $10 per VEEC)
    http://www.ecovantage.com.au/ (site is a bit buggy, have to call for their current price which is $8)
    http://easyrebates.com.au/ (currently trading at $5 per VEEC but looks like they might adjust their price up the more VEECs you have e.g. 7 credits were about $7 each)

    EasyRebates make it easy for you - fill in an online form and away you go - you know straight away how much you'll be getting (which is about half as much as other places - convenience comes at a cost I guess).

    My recommendation:

    1) Go here to check how many VEECs your purchase generated: https://www.veet.vic.gov.au/Public/Calculator/VEECCalculator…
    2) I went with tradeingreen (not to be confused with tradinggreen) because they had the equal best price and a simple form without signup required.
    3) Fill form and save it and email it along with your receipt (full instructions here: http://www.tradeingreen.com.au/demo/index.php?option=com_con…)
    4) This companies settlement terms are 20 Business days.

      Thanks Roberto, some of the trading prices listed above might not be the actual rebate prices. And yes, we are trying our best to make it easier for the consumer while providing up to 50% benefit on most appliances.

      Just to clarify point 3) after having completed the process today… 3) should be:

      (i.e. they need to see the signature and they also need a bill with your address - note, the bill I sent had a different name to that on the invoice but that was ok)… also their current VEEC rate is now $11 not $12 (prices go up and down depending on demand).
