have used uber a number of times, has always been a good experience. have been offered gum and sparkling water on some instances, and no dramas with having a beer along for the ride either. if anyone knows any codes beyond the first use one here let me know, cheers!

Doesn't Uber cheat the taxi and limo drivers that are following the law and have the right insurance and licences to commercially transport people?

    [edit]
PS. Did you know that if you travel Uber and the driver has an accident, his insurance won't cover your injuries. This is because you need insurance for transporting people commercially. 99.9999% of Uber drivers just have their private insurance. The insurance company won't cover them for commercial activities.

    • cant you just say you were travelling with a buddy : )?

Taxi drivers have no sympathy from me, from getting verbally abused by a taxi driver for getting in his taxi with the audacity of wanting to go to the city which was only a $30 trip, to drivers getting lost, and those barely able to speak english, my reservoir of sympathy as run dry for these 'battlers'.

Uber provides a superior service at a lower price, I use it exclusively now.

  • Maybe they do maybe they don't. But in this case they is no charge to the end-user so such licensing is not required. They are not paying for it.

Next you be telling me you need the right commercial insurance for a carpool to take kids to school.

  • Just want to say I appreciate the service after trying it for the first time on the weekend.

Thinking it might be hard to get a regular taxi in the CBD late Saturday night, I registered an account as my int'l flight was taxiing into Tullamarine midnight Sunday, and found a previous Uber code on OzB.

Friend dropped me off at Southern Cross station (VIC) 1am Saturday night and with the $25 credit, thought I'd give the UberBlack service a go as I didn't have to go too far and they were the closest rather than the regular Uber.

App showed where the UberBlack taxi was so I knew how far away he was, rego # and photo so I knew who and what car to expect and they came round only 5min later.

Not sure about Zaddo's comment above in the case of UberBlacks, as they drive the VHA plate vehicles.
Talking to the driver, apart from his existing private clients he described Uber as just being another platform (the most well known now though) to get business.

  • do we have uberX in adelaide yet??

  • shit bussiness for drivers but for google its good.

feel sorry for those driver pick me up and drop me off from ct to Bondi and only make 12 dollars.
