  • Not bad, but last Amazon deal I bought from was just a hint over $152 AUD delivered.

    • Yes, it was cheaper, still the best value buy I could find today.

      • but it was only a week or two ago! still borderline neg…

        • It went up in price after the drop, then back down in the last day or so, maybe you could be so good as to provide everyone a link to a cheaper alternative? Thanks.

        • +2

Yeah I wouldn't say neg. It's still cheapest around at the moment. Just not worth +ing, in my opinion, as it's not what I'd consider a 'bargain'.

Officeworks has decent prices on external desktop drives, plus you don't have to deal with a funky US power adapter.

    • Yep, Office Works is only $20 more and you have the bonus of local pickup and return if faulty.

    • Seagate expansion drives purchased from the USA come with the same power supplies as we get here, so you will be pleased to know that Officeworks will supply you with a funky one too :)))

Aaaaaactually, last Seagate 4tb I got off amazon had a US-pinned plug pack. And the pins weren't exchangeable. It did accept 110-240v though.

Not that I cared, as I plucked it out to install in my server.

        • I'm not sure about the other models, but all of the Seagate expansion drives I've bought (about 50) have always come with adapters to suit all regions. :)))

        • +2

yep, I just ordered five which have arrived, us plugs only… as @salem said, they do have the variable transformers though…

        • @beastontheroad:

Maybe they've changed recently? I know at least one that I bought a while back came with multi region pin adapters, but I think I got that one from JB HiFi.

        • @salem: Interesting, Thanks for the updated information. I ordered my first 4TB just prior to the $119.99 USD price drop, maybe they are cutting costs with the latest stocks, that may explain how they are doing them cheaper now, less componentry :))). I've got about 70 or more power packs to suit this style of drive, they are the same ratings and plug config as the WD and HP externals I bought. The WD's were the best A/C adapters of the bunch, no multi region adaptors (local stock), but they had ferrite cores on the leads :)))
