  • I am sure its named because its a mission to get to.. 90mins south of cairns and an hour to the nearest train station

    • Just drove past the turn off to Mission Beach on our way from Cairns to the Gold Coast

You really are missing the point of travel or missing any sense of adventure. That's the magic of spots like MB, some people don't want to try somewhere a little out of the way - & that suits those who love Mission ;-) It's been a spot I've gone back to for 25 years & I still love it.

You don't go to Mission to be in the middle of a city! Bus loads of backpackers depart daily from Cairns for the adventure spots around Tully & Mission. But they're easy to avoid.

Hey, I've hitched MB to Tully in the rain to catch the train last year. Pretty easy - 1 lift every time. Inter city buses stop at South Mission Beach.

Mission is a lovely place, looking over to Dunk Island, with enormous blue ulysses butterfly slowly floating past, or taking a walk in the rain forest spotting the other enormous creature - the cassowary.

Be warned, it is about the wettest spot in Oz! That's why people go white water rafting at Tully. Also mobile reception is limited to Telstra in most of region - well it is a small community surrounded by rain forest.

Best you don't go - leave it for those who love places like Mission ;-)

      • Spot on. It's an easy/scenic/nice drive from Townsville or Cairns. I found an awesome teahouse on a hill overlooking Hinchinbrook Island that is worth the drive on it's own.

A hell of a lot of OZ is 90 mins away from an airport, including big chunks of Sydney in traffic. And there is no way I'd travel to north QLD by train.

    Amazing

    The deals good
    The property is good
    There is no restrictions

    so what do we do?

We bag the location of the town!

    • The offer states that it's 2 nights accommodation in a "Standard Room". I couldn't find any details on the mission beach resort website or any other accommodation website that matches that description.

Secondly, for an economy room, according to expedia 2 night's accommodation between 8/11 - 10/11 costs $200.

I'm not really sure how to tell if this is a deal or not?

      • Well this is about backpacker rates in MB. 2 people in 4-6 bed mixed dorm for 3 nights plus light breakfast plus $25 credit towards food is around this price - and that's no luxury or privacy!

        • This deal has nothing to do with dorm accommodation

You are 100% correct when you say that mission beach is a lovely spot

        • @Travelfactory:
You misunderstood my response, or I needed to give better explanation.

The question was "I'm not really sure how to tell if this is a deal or not?".

I was saying this price is comparable to lowly backpacker shared accommodation rates in MB, so this deal is far better resort luxury at a low (backpacker) price.

If I could convince someone to join me, I'd snap up this deal. Any reason to go back to Mission :-)

        • Hi Bruce from Australia
