Does anyone have a review of the Seiki TVs? Went into store yesterday, but there weren't any on shelf

    • +2

Yeah if you look at older posts on these TV's some people are saying they are fantastic

      • How does this one compare to Soniq 48" on sale for $399 at JB

        • +2

I'd go this one over the soniq

        • @TRENT86:

Agreed, Soniq is pretty much bottom of the food chain.

        • +1

          @Click_It:

JB is pretty much bottom of the food chain. Full stop.

    • I bought 55" seiki tv and its good enough for the price. Not as good as the sonys or samsungs. The black levels could be better in dark scenes but hey for $500+ its a good tv. If your on a budget you cant go wrong.

      • do you think you could post up some pics if possible, to illustrate the black levels? I'm on the fence with this or the LG one from TGG that was posted yesterday

      • Did you try tweaking settings to better the result?

    • I have a 24" one. The picture is not as sharp as the branded TVs. Fast motion can be blurred. You will need to calibrate the colour and contrast settings which appears exaggerated. However, the remote control is better quality than some other low brands like Soniq, Kogan. I believe it is owned by a Chinese company.

      • Come on Dick, how about a deal on a 4K Seiki TV?

    • +5

I purchased the 65 inch that was on sale about two weeks ago,

this is the final product for those interested, can't complain with the quality for the price..

Foxtel iQ HD looks extremely nice :)

Seiki 65 Inch installed and wall mounted

Excuse the picture quality, nexus 5 camera + dodgy halogen lightning doesn't do the TV justice.

      • +1

Take another pic man if you can :) Maybe of a news broadcast

        • Will do if i can get the tv of those menacing family members!

        • @Curkz: Lol. Cheers m8, a lot of people would appreciate some pics. :)

    • Yes I have one from the last sale, I bought the 55, its outstanding for the price.

Definitely recommend it! The menu's are great, tuning was easy, I run mine through HTPC and it automatically adjusts to fit the entire screen, as well as having a 'PC-Mode' in the menu which scales everything correctly, no overscan or underscan etc…

I doubt you will find a 55 inch LED TV of this quality for the price anywhere, especially delivered!

Im in country Tasmania, so the delivery was a BIG plus for me, most places like TGG, JB, HN all want normally at least minimum $120 or more delivery to my location.

I paid approx $514 in the last sale, delivered.

Received in 8 days from order. Metro locations would be faster perhaps.

  • what's the deal with forza 5 token?

    • Stuff up by dse

      • +3

        thanks, ordered 100

        • +4

lol. Don't expect to get them unless a miracle happens

        • +1

maximum per order is 11. oh well.

        • @didsburydan: Hasn't this been discussed on OzB before…aren't the tokens just for in-game purchases, not for the game itself?

        • @StewBalls: Nah it was the full game download, was $0.01 then went up to $88

        • @TRENT86: Cheers dude.

Wow, that's pretty cool…hopefully someone can take advantage before the cancellations/refunds begin! ;)

    • Fixed now. But thanks for the LOL

      • +4

got in just in time. cancellation emails are what i live for.

        • paypal refund of $0.11 just came through, lol.

      • +1

That was nothing, they has phones which you added to cart and were $0 and tablets that were $5 lol, talk about a stuff up

  • 65 inch for under $850 - is impressive….

    • +2

was cheaper a couple of weeks ago.

      • Yeah with the ebay 15th birthday 15% off sale but it was only the last few hours of the sale where the price was cheaper than normal dse store

        • ahhhh really don't know wether to wait for that sort of price again or grab it now..

both great prices…wish I never saw the old ebay price of $757! :)

        • +1

@000lynx: just buy some wish gift cards with 5% off topay for it to bring it down to $800 if it makes you feel better.

        • +1

@000lynx: That was very rare for the tv to be that cheap and also to get the 15% off

    • 65 inch for under $850 - is impressive….

Agreed, that's a lot of TV screen real estate for the money.

I'm sorely tempted using the wish gift card scheme @ ~$800, but I do kind of want the 3Dz & the Smartz…definitely a 1st world problem! ;)

      • How does the wish gift card work to give you a cheaper price? A link will do if that is easier to answer, thanks.

        • You buy them from wherever you prefer (in my case entertainment book) for 5% under face value, so $839.60 x 95% = $797.62

There's other mobs selling them at the same price, just search OzB for your preference! :)

        • +1

@StewBalls: Ah gotcha, thank you for clarifying it is a standing/general trick rather than specific offer.

  • Philips sound bar any good for rumpus?

    • +1

mine stopped working after 6 mos, got refunded and dicksmith guy said they have a lot of returns of this product….

    • +1

If you don't want that one there is another for $69 http://www.dicksmith.com.au/soundbars/philips-soundbar-speak…

      • Is this any good? I'm not expecting mind blowing sound or anything, just better sound than what I get from my current TV.

        • +1

It's 40w which will do the job, nothing mind blowing but will definitely add some good sound to a tv, there is 1 review in the link

        • Cheers

    • If you want better sound from a TV without the hassles of speakers everywhere in a 5.1 setup, look at the Microlab SOLO range (particularly the new SOLO9C)

Brilliant sound, really high quality speakers with strong volume and depth, HDMI passthrough, optical input, 140wms (ie. LOUD)…. all for ~$200.

Note: These aren't sold at Dick Smith. Look at www.staticice.com.au for your nearest reseller.

      • Bit of a difference from $69 - $200 though and the sound bar doesn't have wires all over the place

  • This is getting ridiculous. Sunday sale - Sunday15. Then Monday sale - Monday20/40/60/80. Now Tuesday sale - Tuesday10. Why not just have everyday REASONABLE price.

    • +1

You mean like officeworks who is constantly beaten by dicksmith on price

      • Doesn't officeworks price match?

        • +1

Yeah but that my point, they have to even though they have everyday prices

    • Because it won't get listed on Ozbargain which means no mindless impulse purchasing.

    • If you don't like it dont buy it.
Other like me like seeing these specials.
Dick Smith have improve, i never use to buy anything from them.

      • Yeah they have improved on sales, and its working for their business with a profit last result, which woolies couldn't do

        • Yep, they went from a ~$25 mill company when Woolies sold it to approximately $800 million worth currently.

        • $800 million?!? Where did you get that from?

  • +8

I find the lack of Eneloops disturbing.

  • Are these prices available in store? There is no Click and Collect option available on the webpage.

    • Nope they are online exclusives

    • it's free delivery on the 65" Seiki

  • can someone who knows confirm the contrast specs on DSE website are correct - 1000 to 5000 Contrast?

Seems too low when a lot of panels these days have 1-3 million?

  • Can the Seiki 55" or 65" TV be used as a computer monitor?
Specifically, any noticeable lag, and does it support 1:1 pixel mapping? Thanks.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1:1_pixel_mapping

    • It does have Pc inputs, don't know about the Pixel mapping though

    • +1

I use mine as a HTPC through HDMI and the scaling is perfect.

It has a 'PC Mode' in the menu system which scales to full screen, so no overscan or underscan issues.

I played BF3 on mine last night and its amazing, looking down the scope of the sniper rifle on 55 inch 1080 LED is pretty special.

My HTPC is running MediaPortal, clean and crisp.

      I recommend the purchase.

      • Thanks, I decided to buy the 55" based on your recommendation.

I have now received it and my initial impression is that it is ok for the price (bought for $474).

For use as a computer monitor, there is no noticeable input lag, and the TV supports 1:1 pixel mapping (no overscan).

The pixel arrangement is BGR instead of the more common RGB, so ClearType needs to be changed accordingly.

The one I received has two black specks near the top-left and top-right corner. The first one is about 1-pixel wide and the second one is about 3-pixels wide. The screen seems to have a plastic cover and the black specks seem to be black plastic or dirt of some kind that's stuck to the inside of the plastic cover. The end effect is that they look like dead pixels, but because the black specks are not directly on top of the pixels but a few mm above it, they change location depending on your viewing angle.

  • Anyone know if there are any active 10% discounts? I saw last time the 65' TV was around this price, then the next morning the 10% came active and a few people snagged it for around 750.

    • 10% off was yesterday

      • I know this, but last time this TV was the same price, then a 10% off came through in the morning before she took the price back up to $1800 odd

        • They won't have 10% off 2mrw, they usually do it like 5 days apart. There might be a spend $500 get $60 off 2mrw

        • That was ebay site 15% off?

  • No matter what I will never buy Dick's on line. I didn't believe all the ratings reviews against them until it happens to me. Now I stay far far away from Dicks

    • +1

      That's what she said

      • when lying to her mum

  • Bought 55" let see how it is

  • Does the seiki 55 have a built in PVR ? Should I get this or the $399 soniq 48in

    • +1

Get the Seiki over the soniq and if you want dvd player just get the $35 one at dick smith today

  • +2

If you use the code PERFECT5 at checkout take another 5% off.. Worked with the Seiki 55 TV for home delivery. (:

    • Yes it works

      • +1

Yep the 65' comes to $797.05 delivered (even though its means to be click and collect)

        • $782 if you have the AMEX -$15 off deal. Not quite the $750 ezza says some people managed to snag it for a little while back, but close!

        • @Wiggleh:

Very good still, but waiting on a review or someone else opinion.. also extended warranty options!

        • +1

@ezza: You need to read around, there are comments about the tvs already

  • I wonder if you can buy extended warranty on the 65' TV?

  • +1

Just bought one… after last nights' decision that we did't need a TV… thanks OP…. I guess we need now~ lol

    • +1

And more and more people are saying they are pretty dam good which is good news :)

      • Yes, I saw reviews were good. I hope they will deliver this time (though I said I won't buy from them again after they failed to deliver a $5 charger last time) .

  • +1

Funny how the Seiki TV is still being advertised as $549 after the sale has ended. Seiki is expected to release HDMI 2.0 4k TV in Q4 2014. I would not jump into a FHD just yet.

    • Lol yeah I can imagine the price though, the normal price of the 65" above is $1899 so I would expect the 4k one to be 3000 plus

      • Big Brown Box has it for approx. $2,100 for a 65" UHD so unless you insist UHD otherwise get FHD and save yourself $1,300.

        • But once UHD becomes affordable (hdmi 1.4 phased out by 2.0) FHD prices is going to crash. I see that being end of this year early next year.

  • Can anyone confirm if the 65" TV ready to mount on the wall? Will it be too heavy to be on the wall? Haven't decided yet.

    • +1

I read comment it has been sucessfully mounted. Never too heavy compared with those old Plasma TVs

      • Already pulled the trigger 15 minutes ago, used all my four Amex cards and the rest on 5% off wish cards, and the final cost for me is $717.20. Now need to hunt for cheap and sturdy wall mount (plus installation).

        • +1

          Well done

  • +2

You may have misspelt the code.

    • +1

yeah nice pick. OP it is PERFECT5

  • I think the 5% off finishes 11.59pm 25th Sept and only available to the first 500 customers.

  • anyone comment on the tuners on these Seiki TV's?

most cheap TVs have shit tuners :(

  • Oh dear, I bought the Seiki55 on Thursday for $522, it's $474 now. As a loyal ozbargainer, I hate paying more. Any idea if we can have the price difference back? I found they have a 7 days price guarantee to the competitor, not sure how it works to themselves.
