I haven't tried BinaryLane myself although there are quite a few Aussie providers in the $5-$10 range. BinaryLane is part of Mammoth is quite reputable as well.
USD$1/month VPS is however on a different level - not even sure whether that covers the merchant fee and IP cost.
Who are the other Australian providers in that range? I don't know about them.
Yeah we have a few VPS with Network Presence as they have their servers in Sydney Equinix.

The other one was news to me.
I recently signed up with binarylane.com.au. Australian servers. I'm pretty happy so far. $1 is really cheap though.
