I hate these money traps.
Seems like they swapped the price of the photoshoot with the printed portrait. A bit like those thousands of $3 ebay gadgets for $25 postage.

Professional studios have offers like these to allow clients to experience the session and show the standard of images they are capable of producing - allowing for the fact that if they do a great job people will be happy to spend. Most studios do not adopt the 'hard sell' approach as they rely heavily on repeat clients/referrals. It is sad that the few that do bring down the reputation of the industry as a whole.
In regard to pricing, what you are paying for is less in the material cost, than the photographers experience in capturing the image in the first place, the post production to get it looking perfect, and the translation into finished product with a lifetime guarantee. In most cases, you get what you pay for.
Its worth clarifying before any session exactly what is included in the offer, and get an indication on pricing so you can make an informed decision.
I have no doubt they'll put the hard sell on you before you get to leave. And what 10" portrait is worth $245??!!
