  • in terms of bang for your bucks, would this set a better value than the other listed last week https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163625

    • well this set seems to have some useful components that i don't think are included in the $90 set
breaker bar, swivel sockets, extension bars, but bang for your buck id still say the $90 kit

More complete set of spanners in this one. Much more complete set of sockets too. The other one has about 5 metric, and 4 AF, this set has 12 metric spanners size 8-19, and I dont know what range of AF but more than the other set has. The other one despite the higher number of pieces, includes a lot of crap pieces like hex tips (maybe 50 of them).

IMO, this set is MUCH better value. A set of Stanley metric spanners, albeit with one extra spanner (13 piece) is $55 in a tin at Bunnings. http://www.bunnings.com.au/stanley-13-piece-metric-spanner-s…

Side by side image of both sets, this one is on the right http://i57.tinypic.com/nz3yhs.jpg

This set is the pick IMO at the price.

Thanks. I returned my $89 set instore and bought this instead. Cheers!

FYI. The $89 set is manufactured in China. This set is from Taiwan.

I've got this kit too and got it at a similar price.

I wanted the tools too, not the little fiddly bits….and a breaker bar.
This had it all and was a welcome upgrade from the kmart drawer set i had before.

Having them in a case, and it's a very good case too!, is better in my opinion.
Most of my work is done in the driveway and I was forever going back and forth to get the right tools,
or lifting the whole drawer kit to come with me.

The case it a much better idea (IMO)

    Great price..Get it !

    I'll be getting one.

Also, one of the cheapest and best sets of ratchet spanners ive seen too

  • I wonder how tough the breaker bar is in this set? Ive had the longest metal pole on mine and had to swing and jump on it a few times and its 25 years old now and still in great shape.

But in saying that the price is a bargain for all these tools :)

Stanley has a lifetime warranty so if you do destroy it, i imagine theyll replace it.

  • pretty sure stanley owns sidchrome, and these tool quality are on par with current sidchrome products

so i'd say they are fairly decent build quality and the lifetime warranty will be honoured easily

EDIT: what makes up the extra numbers in the 201pc set is the little sets of screw bits

Personally I wish they would do a kit like this but only metric, with some other useful pieces, I can't remember the last time I had a use for sae yet I have a draw full of the crap.

Purchased these http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Toolp… on Tuesday yet to pick them up, had $20 worth of loyalty credit so bargain :) love the concept should be great for on the bikes.

  • Far better kit than the $89 one. Good combination of 12pt , 6pt and deep sockets. I also wish they do away with SAE.
They're next to useless for working on modern cars. And if I wanted to drive some bunnings coach bolts - id either use a shifter, the equivalent metric or just buy the individual SAE sockets.

I've had a Sidchrome socket set for the past 20 years (the same one) and have used the set to rebuild over a dozen engines for cars as well as some pretty tight nuts on my Jet engine. I have put all my weight on the ratchet and extention bar plenty of times…and have never broken a single item.

As for Stanley, I have Stanley ratchet spanners and they are great :) So are my Stanley screw drivers.

Both these makers are top quality. I would not use anything else.

IMO the only way you need to buy replacement Sidchrome or Stanley products is when ya loose them :)

And yes I am missing a few items from my sets, so I am wondering if this set would be a good backup for the future ….ummmm YEP.

    Cheers

I'm returning the $89 kit and getting this.

  • Got one. Since I have a garage sale this Sunday I can add all my old bits and pieces, and the odd set to the sale. Should be able to reclain 20-30 dollars to further this bargain!

  • Seems like it's expired. Taken off the site.

Got the last one in my area.

    Only 3 left in Victoria.

  • wonder what would you guys recommend?

This set or Crescent 170 pc from bunnings?
    Both $149
