NEEDS MORE CAPS! AND YOU SHOULD APPLY FOR REP STATUS!!!!!!

    • What do you mean?

I was making a joke. The capitals and exclamation mark were from the joke I made.

        • I sorta vaguely get the joke.
Regardless, I don't think you deserve a downvote.

    • I too don't understand. Arcade hasn't been on special for awhile, unfortunately if it comes with a memory card then its most likely a falcon, so they're probably just clearing old stock.

      • I bought an Arcade recently with memory card and it is a Jasper.

        • so it came with a memory card and had its 256 built in? Thats lucky.

  • excuse my stupidity… but wat is the difference between xbox 360 arcade and xbox 360 pro??

    • A hard drive and some cables (like HDMI) and I think a headset.

That's about it. You can still buy things like the headset and HDMI separately (the old versions of the arcade didn't have HDMI though).

EDIT Here ya go. Looks like the regular and Elite also support some old XBox games where the Arcade version doesn't.

      • Just to clarify, I don't believe the Pro does come with a HDMI cable but rather component. It does have a HDMI port though, as do all XBox's but.

edit: as for the XBox originals….you are right in a way. The classics require the HDD I believe for backwards compatibility so the arcade should be able to run them I would imagine but you would need to obtain the HDD seperatly. The backwards compatibility is one of the reasons when you get a 20GB drive you only have around 14GB actually free on the thing. Unsure if this can be loaded into a memory card or not.

        • The link above in "Here ya go" shows the Elite does come with a HDMI cable.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah but he asked about the Pro, thus the link. Didn't bother looking at the elite

The Arcade version supports all older games (just like the Pro/Elite) but you need to download a 'compatibility pack' of sorts which is about 60MB. I guess when it only has 256MB spare they didn't include this out of the box but if you buy a 20GB drive cheap off eBay (about ~$30) you can easily install it and play all classic games too.

This is a good deal if you want the console right now, but by Christmas/post-Christmas there will be tonnes of specials out there. I bought an Arcade for $257 from JB-HiFi with Gears of War 2 which was worth about $89 at the time. Should see plenty of deals like that in 2-3 months.

        • I've never heard of this special compatibility pack you speak of, the data that allows BC [Backwards Compatibility] is over 5GB in size. How you can download that in 60MB is hard to get my head around. Do you have any proof or source for that claim? I've been into Xbox 360 soft/hardware modding for 3 years and that's the first time I've came across that information [which I can categorically tell you all is completely false]

Please stick to the facts in future, people may buy this xbox and be disappointed by your false statement. The following passage is taken from xbox.com, the link is below it.

Original Xbox game support requires a hard disk drive (HDD) accessory on your Xbox 360 console.

I'll be - voting that post, people need to know the facts.

By the way guys, this is probably a good price as long as it is Jasper. Word is that the Arcade is going to have a small price increase soon as opposed to the Elite's decrease. Also the Pro console is being made obsolete, just going to be the Arcade and Elite SKU's available.

Protip on how to tell if the console is a Jasper without opening the box in store is to look for one with a 12.1A power rating or lot# 842x or later.

          • @[Deactivated]: Hmm. Not sure why the 60MB number is in my head — do you know what this is? http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#d… (it's only 3.7MB).

It says after burning that and installing it:

Step 5: The console will reboot and you're done. Insert your original Xbox games and enjoy!

Where does the 5GB come into play? You clearly know more about this than I do so perhaps you can clear up my misunderstanding.

EDIT: After reading a bit it seems that each game needs an emulation profile, not sure how big each one is though..

            • @cyssero: Yeah mate that is just an update to allow more backwards compatibility, when the older 20GB HDD's were released they only covered the original list of BC xbox 1 games, later that list was updated, that update is to allow people who are without Xbox Live connections to update their existing HDD to let it play games from the newer list, that's all.

BTW after reading through my last post I seem to have came across as a dick, sorry about that, must be something to do with my personality :)

edit: The 5GB is pre-installed on a 360 HDD when you purchase it, as someone else rightly pointed out earlier when you purchase a 20GB HDD it only has roughly 13 GB free on it, 5GB is for BC and a bit less than 2GB is for backup. The 5GB of data is basically in laymen's terms an 'Xbox 1 emulator' the Xbox 360 can't natively run the Xbox 1 games that's why the emulator is on the HDD and also why the Xbox 360 can't run all Xbox 1 games, only a majority of them, some games such as Metal Gear Solid 3 are not compatible and unfortunately never will be I hear as they put a lot of strain on the Xbox 1 and the emulator isn't up to the task.

              • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for clearing that up. So ultimately, an Arcade with a 20GB HDD will have no problem playing BC games — but it must have the HDD and the memory unit will not suffice.

I believe this is also because original Xbox games expected there to be the 8/10GB HDD which was used for disk caching, of course not present on the Arcade. eBay has tonnes of good deals on 20GB HDDs though (about ~$35 delivered).

                • @cyssero: Are these "legit" ones though?

                  • @MrGareth: Some are. A lot are refurbished units from MS, I sold a legit one on eBay, it went for $35 + shipping or less I think.

              • @[Deactivated]: You wish you could be a dick, more like a fanny ;)

          • @[Deactivated]: Lot 841x 12.1a is also jasper. Picked up one last time they were on sale @ HN in July for $238+ 2 bonus games.

Yet at another HN store Arcade Lot 842x 14.2a not jastper.

Best just go by the 12.1a rating to be absolutely sure its a Jasper. Wouldn't get one if it wasn't.

  • ohh ok… thats cool then… thought it was an xbox 360 pro…

  • good deal, but better wait for Dec deals, last year I bought an Arcade for $228
Better packages should be out by Decemeber
Idiots at WOW, show PRO pictures in the product images

  • Hmm, the box picture on the site actually show a xbox 360 pro console. Think we could do a price match on that? =P

    • Ha ha… I just noticed that too!

  • I'll pick this up if its jasper

    • Can you let us know whether or not it's a Jasper?

  • The 5 x Arcade Games is basically 5 tiny arcade games on a disc than five separate games, if that makes sense.

  • Its just the standard arcade pack with a wireless adapor.
If its the current arcade pack then it will have the 2 in 1 game pack including 5 arcade games and Sonic Superstars Tennis in the one case.

Older packs just have arcade live games disc and 1 x 256mb memory card.

The Backwards-Compatibility with Xbox Originals software is only about 190MB. I know this because I bought a 120GB hard drive for my Xbox 360 which wasn't an official one, but I got it for half the price. In order to run Xbox Originals (disc or downloaded) I had to backup Partition 2 from my genuine official 20GB hard drive with a USB transfer cable and restore it to the new 120GB hard drive.
