Usual reason for clearing stock like this is batteries are nearing / past expiry. I'll pass.

I was referring to buying extra $2 ones for the batteries - if they have long enough expiry. Also suggested eBay.

No one said or would be likely to buy this product at HN for $7 instead of $2, just for the batteries. Use some common sense. So this is just a waste of time.
Was trying to be helpful - suggesting to buy more than one of these in this deal for the batteries, if they are ok, or buy replacement batteries from eBay as I said. After all, the LR44 replacement batteries are the major drawback to this torch.

Bought 3 from local, 1 had slightly corroded batteries, other 2 fine after some jiggling around. Picked up a pack of 10 batteries for $1.70 off ebay anyway :)
