I think Sara Lee peanut butter ice cream is better value and half price too at Coles.

    • +3

Agree. Tried it after seeing the praise it gets on Ozbargain but I just doesn't compare to the "super premium" ice cream from Maggie Beer. I prefer their 1L range. Taste better and more value for money.

    • +1

Bought some yesterday :D So good.

  • Chinese Peanuts

    • +7

Was going to say… The same peanuts in the Peanut Butter Timtams?

      • +4

Anyone seriously expecting real peanuts to be in peanut butter flavoured chocolate biscuits is kidding themselves.

      • According to the shonkys the timtams havo no peanuts at all, just flavour

        • most things which are xxx flavoured, don't contain xxx…

"maple flavoured syrup" is a good example, just imitation maple syrup really..

        • @klownz: What are you talking about? Smiths Chicken Flavoured Potato Chips contain chicken!

        • @klownz:
True, but it's like a quarter the price.

        • @jonathonsunshine:
I thought it was just 1% chicken fat?

    • Farmer brand peanuts FTW!

    • +2

      May contain traces of nuts.

  • +14

    PRICE in title

    • +4

PRICE is actually in the title, what's missing is the amount or cost..

      • +1

Oh come on, this is no worse then any of JV's calls (which for the most part, I do enjoy his dry wit).

        • +3

Um btw, I wasn't defending OP I also wish the price was mentioned. It was a joke - the word Price is in the title duh.

And by the way, it's THAN not THEN get it right.

        • @nismo:

Haha, thanks. Then and than are the only two words I consistently struggle with.

Still have no idea why so many people negged you. Maybe JV was upset you one-upped him.

        • @tomsco:

You're not alone tomsco, plenty of people I know get those mixed up.

Lol about jv - can anyone really one-up him though?

        • +1

@tomsco: I also used to screw those too words up too. Now I just remember the rule, "than" is when comparing one thing to another.

    • 22/10 = $2.20?

      • 22/10 is probably the deal start date assuming there is actually going to be a deal (I heard it through the grapevine while a great song, doesn't inspire confidence.)

        So, is this stuff good?

OzBargain, contains the best kind of nuts (bargain hunter nuts.)

  • -1

The grapevine is a very reliable source.

  • Wasn't that impressed last time (I got the liquorice all-sorts and the banana split). They were OK but I found them a little weird. Hoipefully my local coles will have a wider flavour selection this time

    • Well you did try two of the funkiest flavours. I have tried these two myself but there is far better flavours

      • I've tried the pistachio honey swirl and the gooey chocolate brownie ones and loved both though chocolate brownie is better. I keep thinking I should try peanut butter seeing the oz bargain community vouching for it but not abig fan of peanut butter so I'm scared won't like it

  • +6

    Caramel popcorn is better IMO.

    • Blasphemy.

    • I prefer vanilla.

    • +1

tried that too. Kids liked it, but I'm not into soggy popcorn

  • +6

Just to point out, but the 'half price' should actually be considered 'full price' for this stuff. It's 'normal' price equates to $12-13 a litre - way above what an own brand supermarket ice cream is worth.

    • +2

The product is well above "home brand" quality.

  • +2

It's pretty great. My freezer is already so full of this flavour, I'm frantically eating it to make more room.

    • +1

I'm frantically eating it to make more room.

Make more room where? Your stomach? =p

  • +1

Anyone tried freezing real peanut butter? maybe add some cream and mix it with a mixer then freeze it.

    • Good idea…I 'make' my own Rum&Rasin by adding rum and some rasins then refreezing. It's actually pretty damn good.

    • +1

Best is to melt peanut butter in microwave and pour over ice cream.

  • -5

And here I was shredding for stereo :P LULZ

  • +1

If this stuff really is normally $13/L then no self respecting ozbargainer should be buying it even at half price.
Home brand vanilla all the way at $2.50/L. Jar of peanut butter $3. Done.

    • +3

Its going to be hard to mix the home brand peanut butter with the home brand ice cream. The peanut butter is as stiff as gyprock whereas the icecream turns to soup the minute its out of the freezer.

    • No self respecting ozbargainer buys icecream based on $/litre, work in $/gram to get the true value. You can do the maths based on the nutrition panel serving size. How many $/litre do you value air at ?

    • home brand vanilla is disgusting 'milky flavoured ice'

no amount of topping could make that 'ice cream' taste like ice cream

    • Best value ice cream is the streets/woolworths select from woolworths. 2L at ~$5 and it has decent flavors (cookies & cream, choc peppermint etc).

Cheapest would be home brand from woolworths which is like 4L for $4.20.

  • $6.60 has to be more than half the regular price, surely?

    • yeah, i'm pretty sure it was $4 reduced from $6.51 when i bought one of these…

i wasn't the biggest fan of this ice cream by itself…but i found eating a spoon of this with a spoon of nutella was pretty tasty! :)

    • +1

these things hardly ever sell for full price. full price is artificially inflated. so they can stick a 20% off 30% off or 1/2 price sticker on things occasionally, and still make loads of money.

  • +1

I don't like the actual peanuts. Ruins an otherwise nice ice cream for me

  • Damn! My freezer is fully packed with the $4 Coles Peanut Butter and Pistachio Honey Swirl Ice Cream already.

  • -1

    Awesome, diabetes in a box!

    • Wait.. you mean this or the rest of the supermarket?

  • Gawd just saw what looked like Mr Creosote stocking up.

    BOOM ;)

  • just thought of somthings…peanut butter cheesecake

  • very enthusiastic for a deal that was available less than a month ago!

    • that was 40% off and this is 50% off…?

      • +1

my apologies… this is something to get excited about then :P

maybe the other varieties should be added to the post then too…

        Peanut Butter
        Passionfruit Pavlova
        Lemon Meringue
        Coffee Choc Crunch
        Gooey Choc Brownie

        Raspberry Cookie
        Caramel Popcorn
        Banana Choc Sundae
        Pistachio Honey
        Liquorice Allsorts

  • Better than the famous Coogee poo icecresm? http://m.dailytelegraph.com.au/hotels-ice-cream-was-full-of-…

    • That one was nuttier

  • If you are getting a Coles ice cream I thoroughly recommend the slightly more generic Coles Rum and Raisin ice cream. 1lt tub is about $4.70 ish. The (from memory) Honey and Macadamia flavour is not bad as well.
