  • OMG, I was just looking into purchasing this device!

Solid modem, bought it for $149 3 months ago and its still going strong.

    • I should hope it lasts more than 3 months :)

  • I have the C7 (Router only). Its awesome. Have not had to restart it in a month! Handles traffic very well.

    • I had the C7, but it had known problems with the 5gHZ wifi, TP-link technicians also could not help, switched to Netgear nighthawk, now much happier.

if only it wasn't from CentreCON…. too many people have received refurbished or used items when they were listed as new.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Always helps to make the best informed decision when pulling the trigger.

    • I was considering getting this but was glad to see you comment.
2.0 from 108 reviews is not a great track record. Recent history of selling used products as well!

I have the 8980 (2g and 5g ?n600?), my home has three levels but only 2 stories, with timber floors between levels, and a PC upstairs about 5 metres away if a straight line is drawn from router to PC through 1 floor, and I get drop outs. It seems to just spit the PC off the connection, its running fine, just the PC upstairs is dropping out. I scan signal strength and it says its there, but speed is 11mbs. I thought it might be the PC, but Im pretty sure its not for two reasons. One I have an android device that will experience the same issue with the router, and 2nd my mate has the exact same mod/router as mine, and his will reach his laptop if the mod/router is in the doorway of the next room (similar distance, one level though, plaster walls), but it drops out and speed fluctuates if we move it to the desk which is behind the wall. Direct line of sight and it booms in though. He even says he has faster overall speed so it must suit his ISP and distance from the exchange.

On my cat cabled PC, its never been an issue though. So in short, IMO, the TPLinks we have have issues with obstacles at least. My mother inlaw has an n300 TP link too, with solid brick walls though, and she has drop outs too with all devices on the wifi, a laptop, and two android. But again, she isnt pushing the signal far.

Im right off TP Link, just thought Id share.

This is my router if youre not familiar with it http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/details/?model=TD-W8980

    • Yeah mate nothing to do with the D7!

      Post this on whirlpool

      • Possibly. But three units, two the same model (albeit not the OP model), and one different model, all with similar wifi range issues in relation to obstacles, might be worth noting to some that the brand might suffer issues. Like me prior to buying the piece of crap.

        • I got the same modem as you and the Wifi, I also have noticed it might be marginally weaker then my previous Billion. But my download speeds have increased by about 10-20%

Got this from MSY for $149 last week. Rock solid so far. Excellent sync speed. WiFi range good.

      Same, worth every buck.

yep got it through our supplier at work, very impressed specially with the sync speed. 2.4ghz is ok 5ghz is very good.

  • What are the chances that it will arrive by the 31st ? I am in WA.

As long as the sale/purchase is processed before (and maybe on) the 31st you should be ok, as that will be the date that appears on your receipt.

  • Good modem. Solid price :)

Wireless1 has sales to this price every now and then as well

  • Looks like a dalek
