Up to 20,000 Aquire Pts (QFF Pts) for New Member, $50 Joining Fee - 10,000 Pts for Existing Mem

350

Credit to Pointhacks.com.au

I'm surprised this deal hasn't been posted here yet. Basically if you have an ABN, you can sign up for an Aquire membership now, with $50 joining fee and first year membership fee waived (normally $179), and earn up to 20,000 Aquire pts, which then can be converted 1:1 to QFF pts. You'll get 10,000 for sign up and another 10,000 for making a purchase with one of the program partner.

Normally there'll be massive amount of hoops to jump through to convert your Aquire pts into QFF pts if you earn the points through flights booked using your registered ABN. But I believe for this promo, both the 10,000 sign up bonus pts and the 10,000 partner purchase pts are immediately available for transfer to any QFF account.

For existing Aquire members, you can still get the 10,000 pts by making a purchase with a new Aquire program partner. I guess that means one partner that you haven't earned Aquire point from. I bought a clip for 23 cents from Staples with free delivery code "AFREEDEV"

More details are explained here:
http://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas-aquire-20k-bonus-promoti…

TL;DR: if you have an ABN then
* if you are not an Aquire member then register to earn up to 20,000 equivalent QFF pnts, $50 joining fee, $179 annual membership fee, 1st year waived.
* if you are an existing member then make a purchase with a new Aquire program partner to earn 10,000 pnts

Don't forget to convert your Aquire points to QFF points at the end

Edit 1: There's also a discount code with Staple "TEN65OFF" which takes $10 off if your order is $65 or more, not sure if it stacks or why anyone would, but I don't judge.

Edit 2: don't forget to cancel your aquire membership before the renewal date, unless you want to keep it, and pay the membership fee.

I bought a 175g packet of Atomic Tomato Samboys for $3 http://www.staples.com.au/food-drink-kitchen/food-products/n… . Only way to make that deal better is to add a Flavour Bomb (damn I miss those).

    • I just bought the same!! $3 for 10k points!!! Luckily I saw this promo, made me log into my aquire account for the 1st time, and there was 5000 points sitting there for me to convert to Qantas points. It was a sign up bonus, and when I joined about 3 weeks ago there was no fee at all!

  • Just added another Staple's discount code "TEN65OFF" $10 off $65 order, could be for 1st time customer only, tbc

  • 23cents to get 10,000 is gold! Reminds me of the charity pudding tins guy in America to get a million points.

Technically it's $50.23 for 20,000 points but that $50 could be a tax deductible expense couldn't it?

    • true, I would imagine that the fee would be tax deductible too.

      • +3

I doubt it would be tax deductible, after all I don't see how you could honestly say that a loyalty scheme fee that was necessary for you to incur in order to earn taxable income.

I recently had a card with 15,000 for the first purchase, I made a 1 cent payment online for an effective earn rate of 1.5m points per $. Currently getting approx 15,000 points per month more or less for free through one of my cards (happy for anyone who wants to PM me for details), but still 20,000 points for $50 is a great deal.

        • I might argue that through the points earn, I may use it in a way to reduce my business operating cost, thus increase my business taxable income. But then again, I won't have to make that argument :)

  • "A$179 annual fee will apply but this is waived for the first year"

  • When do you get the first 10000 for joining and where do I see this?

    • +1

it's in the t & c at the bottom, approx 8wk for the first 10,000; and another 8wk after earning aquire pts from partner for the 2nd lot of 10,000

  • If my partner and I sign up fforkr membership, we will pay $100 and then get 40,000 points for making purchase of say $2 extra.

40,000 points are equivalent to $242 in cash back so we will make at least $140 for 10 minutes work.

    Not bad!

    • or you could sell 40k points on gumtree for $400-$600

      • For real? People buy points?

        • Yeah they do. I sold some here a couple weeks back for 1c a point. Which IMHO is good value if the points are used correctly.
I was then offered 1.2c by other members also.

I also recently sold some on Gumtree for 1.4c/point

          @MelbBargainChaser77:
How do you make sure you don't get screwed while buying or selling?

        • @rkdius:
The buyers have always made the cash deposit to me first. Pigey from here on OzB deposited directly into my ANZ account, and a bunch I sold on Gumtree, the buyer paid me directly via paypal.

        • @MelbBargainChaser77: Paypal doesn't offer seller protection for stuff like this though as far as I know.

    FYI From a press release:

However, you won't be able transfer Aquire points earned from Qantas flights until there's at least 20,000 Aquire Points in your account and until "two of the Member's Aquire Flyers have travelled on one or more eligible flights", Qantas says.

    • also to earn 20000 aquire points from flights alone, youd need to fly a hellavulot. As Aquire points are earned at 30% of the qantas points earn rate for the flight.

    • Not sure how businesses with one employee can take advantage of this - any ideas?

    • True, but Aquire points earned from other partners are easier to transfer. It's only the points earned through Qantas flights that are hard to transfer.

      • Ah - that makes sense. Also, how do you prove that a person linked to your business account is an employee? Can I get all of my mates to put in my Aquire number when they travel Qantas?

        • No idea of that part. I'm just a sole trader using Aquire to get free points. Anybody else care to answer?

  • I have an ABN but haven't used it for a while and definitely not a 'Business' …. wondering if I could still take advantage of this?

    • Yes, you have an ABN so you can, as far as I know.

    • Same boat.
So it seems $50.23 is definitely worth it for 20k points.
Are there any other advantages to having an acquire account for a sole trader ABN?

      • I really can't imagine any benefits, especially since it is so hard to transfer points from flights. I'm sure there'll be discounts from retailers, but not enough to cover $179 a year.

      • Are you sure that $.23 will convert to points or do you have to spend more than $1?

        • I just copied the $ amount from @adamren

  • Also theres a link that says we will also get 70 free prints from Snapfish for our order at Staples, has anyone got this email?
    http://www.staples.com.au/wrapper.aspx?param=free-prints-fro…

  • how does one make an ABN to take advantage of this deal?

  • Love it.

  • giving it a go. thanks

  • envelope for 5c
    now wondering if it will work for such low value items;
    http://www.staples.com.au/envelopes-mailing-labelling/bubble…

  • Do you need to spend over $1 to be eligible? It says when you shop with them and earn acquire points for first time so I assume minimum spend would be a dollar?

  • +1

How long does it take for the Joining 10,000 pts to become visible on Aquire?

Do you have to wait for these to appear before you charge up the 23c clip with staples?

    Good post OP.

    • In the Ts&Cs of page (https://www.aquire.com.au/offer/aquirebonus), gives an idea of times expected:

10,000 bonus Aquire Points for joining may take up to 8 weeks after a business joins Aquire to be credited to the membership account; b) the 10,000 bonus Aquire Points for first earn with an Aquire partner or, for existing Members who earn with a new Aquire Partner, will be credited to the Members' Aquire account within 8 weeks after the Aquire Points earned with the partner appear in the members' Aquire account.

  • thanks OP. my only regret is that i joined up recently when the points bonus was only 5000 :(

    • I joined at the same time, but Im assuming you didnt pay the $50 join fee either. Also their is still 10k points up for grabs for us existing members

      • Yes, but 5000 points! And I used up my 2 COTD $10 vouchers to buy Eneloops @$15 when they're offering them next week for $10 sigh

  • Alternatively, apply ANZ credit card for $95 to get 50,000 QFF pts when you spend $1500.

  • Just called up to find out where my chips are (given that delivery to Perth CBD is only supposed to take 2 business days max and I ordered on Tuesday). Apparently they are on a truck coming out from Sydney so will take 9 days. Can't say I'm particularly impressed STAPLES.

For those buying sub $1 products from STAPLES, I note that the deal is that the second batch of 10,000 Aquire points is awarded when you EARN points by making a purchase from a new partner. STAPLES' T&Cs say 2 points per $1 spent, not including purchases of clearance items and delivery charges. I doubt sub $1 purchases will earn points (may do, but I doubt it).

    • -1

I think you are right, I case it depends if it comes up on the aquire statement as 0 points though, then it might count.

    • +1

Keith (from Pointhacks) commented that there seems to be no minimum limit for the partner purchase to get the bonus points. I've also emailed the Aquire team to get clarification as well, will update once I've got the answer.

  • Im going to try out one of Aquire's partners, Regus (business lounges) which will also give you an extra 1000 Aquire points when you first visit a lounge. The sign up to Regus Preferred Membership is free and you get 5 free visits to any business lounge in the world. http://www.regus.com.au/aquire

    • thanks, will also do that.

    • Thanks! I'm down for that one too!

    • Maybe earning Regus points should count as your first earnings to make you eligible for the additional 10,000 points?

      • I doubt it, because you haven't spent any $ with that partner, it's a bonus.

  • +2

Don't forget to cancel your Aquire membership before it comes up for renewal, or else you will be charged the yearly membership fee of $179 at the end of the first year…

    • Cheers for the reminder, added that to the main post.

  • Also, you can register multiple ABNs if you have more than one business. From the FAQ's:

If I own multiple businesses, do I need to join Aquire multiple times?

A business owner needs to register their business' ABN with the Aquire Program to earn Aquire Points. If you own multiple businesses you can register each business with Aquire, subject to the Terms and Conditions of the program.

  • my clips arrived today!!! The A3 size plastic pouch seems to cost more than the clip itself. Thanks Staples.

    • +1

Oops, so excited over my shiny new clip that I made a typo, I only bought one.

  • +3

I made a purchase on Staples on 23 October and in the FAQs they state that it takes 1 month for the purchase to show up in your Aquire points (I also emailed them to confirm this). Now, we have to earn the first points with a partner by 16 November to receive the 10,000 points (but Staples takes up to 1 month to show. Should we just have blind faith that the points will go in by 16 November? This might affect people more if they make a purchase just before 16 November as the earned points take a certain amount of time to be processed. I also contacted Aquire to ask them about this and if I get a response I will let you know. Hope what I'm saying makes sense!

    • +3

      Email from Staples:

      Hi

I need my Aquire points to go in before 16 November so I can earn the bonus 10,000 Aquire points as per their promotion.

Is that going to be possible?

      Thanks

      Response from Staples:

      Hi

Yes that is fine, as long as the order is placed before that cut off date.

      Kind Regards

      Customer Service Officer

      Staples Australia Pty Limited

Got a phone call from Aquire this morning (they were super professional and fast with response time!). They confirmed it doesn't matter when Staples will credit to your Aquire account (ie 30 days after the transaction) as it shows up with the transaction date of your purchase. It then takes up to 8 weeks for Aquire to allocate the 10,000 bonus points to your account.

  • Has anyone been able to clarify with staples the minimum spend for 10,000 points?

    • Just spend $1 to be sure, not bad for 10k points

  • Does anyone know their contact number? I signed up, paid and had confirmation but cannot activate the account as there was no confirmation email to my email address. Yesterday, I called them up and they confirmed that I am a member now and resend the activation email. Again not received and today I cannot find their phonenumber in "contact us" - very strange?? What is happening??
Thanks if you have the number.

    • I had the same issue. Last spoke to them on Friday and the activation email just landed an hour ago. If you need to follow them up give them a call on 137 478

  • How do we get FREE postage/ delivery for Staples? Must say they were efficient in following up my problem above. Apologies I see the free shipping code!

  • Anybody have a problem with the Staples checkout? I had the problem on mine and with a bit of persistence got it to work. it just doesn't work at all for my wife. When I click the 'proceed to checkout' button it just refreshes the page and does nothing.

  • +1

    My chips have arrived.

  • +1

anyone got the aquire points credited to your accounts yet for staple purchases. mine still says 0 points.

    • Nothing here either

    • Just checked today, says 18 points for my $9 spend on 22 October 2014 (not sure when that was credited to my Aquire account, think I last checked early last week). No sign of the 10,000 for joining or the 10,000 for having earned with a partner (although I did recieve a promo email which made reference to the 10k points I'd be getting for joining). Not too concerned as don't have any pressing need to book anything. Will give it a few more weeks before I bother doing anything about it.

    • Still waiting for points to be credited…
My clip purchased arrived, but no mention these points will also be credited.

  • +1

my 6 aquire points posted today for my $3 bag of delivered samboy chips…now waiting for the 10k bonus points!

  • my 2 points for the $1.3 roll of packaging tape has come through.

no mention of 0 points for the 5 cent envelope.

  • Have anyone received their 10k points yet?

    • 8 weeks from this post date is roughly 17th December. Give it time lad

  • Ordered on 23 October from Staples and no points showing up from my purchase and no Acquire points either.

    • +1

Just give it time, as with most FF type things that have appeared on OZB over the years, sometimes they just have so much demand, that it takes more time than normal. I've always had success at claiming missing points through the automatic tool in your Qantas FF account (there is also one with Aquire) Give it until the 8 week mark and then give it another shot.

      • Sure!

        • My staples points from 31st of October are now showing in my aquire account, but no bonus points yet.

        • @damion:

I feel like I'm repeating myself, but this isn't my first rodeo. How long is 8 weeks from the 31st of October?

        • @dazzywazzy:

I wasn't complaining about missing bonus points.
I was merely letting others know so they could figure out if their base should be showing yet.

        • @damion: Thanks Damion! Interesting that your points showed up before mine or my partners and we ordered on 23 October. I will email Staples just to make sure they go in!

        • @imissbeans: I emailed staples and they couldnt match my Staples account to my aquire account so that was really frustrating! That's why I don't have any points from my purchase. Just another failure of staples!

  • Got my 10 points from Staples. No bonus points yet…

  • +3

Got the 10,000 points for joining (received 21 Nov).

Still waiting for the 10,000 points for purchasing with a partner.

    • +1

Just checked and same situation !

    • Same here.

  • got my 10,000 points as well!

  • I got zero points from Staples….. is it because I didn't spend over $1?
    I spent $0.45….

Did anybody who did the clip order for <40c get their acquire points from Staples?

    • yes, that's correct.

I spent 5 cents, didn't get any points.

spent $1.30 and got 2 points.

      • Damn. lol. Is it too late now to make a purchase over $1?

  • Anyone got their 10k bonus points yet??

    • nope, not yet.

    • Nup, still waiting

    • No, but I have been able to convert the first 10,000 sign up points to Frequent Flyer points.

    • +1

Should get it around 20th December I believe

  • Still waiting …
