Tablet under $200

Looking for decently priced tablets for the kids. Wifi only is fine and not Apple as I resent thowing money away. For games, watching movies etc.

My limited research is finding it hard to go past a Nexus 7. Refurb 32GB can be had for around $150 it seems. Other non apple offerings seem to offer lesser specs, higher prices and systems that will not get updates. Am I missing anything?

The ability to add memory would be nice but happy to use OTG cable and USB if the price is right, as it seems to be with the Nexus.

Any tips?

  • If you go with a Nexus you may not be able to use just an OTG cable. I know with my Galaxy Nexus phone I had to get an app (Nexus Media Importer) to use OTG. Not sure if it has changed though.

    • Yes I've used it with the same app on a nexus 7. On my HTC phone though it just works, no app required.

You don't need an OTG cable. Go to MSY or eBay and look for a Kingston DTDUO Micro USB thumbdrive. The 16GB stick only costs $9.

It's very small and can be attached to a tablet directly without the need for a cable. You can even remove the plastic swivel cap and make it even smaller.

    • Wasn't aware of these. Thanks!

  • I've got an iPad mini 16gb wifi I'm trying to sell if you're interested for around that price.

  • Kobo Arc7 for $99. I got one for $69 from recent COTD deal.
