Anyone Dealing with 1-Day?

Well, the other day, I bought a 3D monitor from 1-day from this deal

out of the blue, they sent me this:

Hi
Thank you for your recent purchase with 1-day.
Due to the nature of our business being online retail, we have a number of checks in place that we are at times required to do which is to safe guard you and your purchase. This means there are times where we may ask for Photo ID and/or confirmation of your postal address.
Please can you supply a scanned copy of your Photo ID and confirmation of your postal address via email in order for us to continue on dispatching your order out to you. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you however once this information has been verified we can get your order out to you as quickly as possible.
We really do appreciate the assistance with this as it helps to keep online shopping safe for everyone.
Kind Regards,
Chris

  • so if I buy their latest deal - a tent for $24 they will want photo id.
Nope I would not pass it on, no other site I have bought from wants photo ID.
How were you paying BTW? Was the card details different to the account and address?

    • I paid using credit card as they don't have paypal checkout
for me it's the same, billing with shipping address

  • 1-Day has been around for many years now.

  • I know its not really related but I stopped buying from them when they sent me a 1-Day tshirt as the mystery item in their 'Bag of Crap' sale. I knew I was going to end up with something crap (all part of the fun) but it was supposed to be a warehouse clearance where you end up with something random, not a specially made 1-Day Bag of Crap tshirt worth $0.20c. Misleading, so I won't use them again.

    • did they ask for your ID back then?

  • +1

I will cancel my order if they insist for photo ID and confirmation of address. My delivery address is same with my credit card details.

  • yeah i would have cancelled my order. I have ordered from them before, and never required id.

  • I received the same email, I replied on Friday saying that I won't send them my photo ID, I havent heard from them yet, If they insist I will have to cancel the order.

    I will post their reply.

  • Same here.. I ordered Sony 24" refub, and they ask for my photo ID,

I refused to send to them, and they cancelled my order..

Been buying online more than 10 years from other businesses and never been ask to send a photo ID.

1-day you will never see me click on your link again..

  • Think about it from an online fraud prevention perspective.

    • Someone purchases $$$ worth of stuff using a stolen credit card which the owner hasn't noticed and cancelled yet.
    • The company processes the payment and sends out the goods to some address which can be anywhere because the shipping address doesn't have to be the same as the billing address.
    • In the mean time the original person whose credit card was stolen reports the theft to the relevant bank/police
    • Bank issues a chargeback to the merchant, who is now out of pocket for both the goods and the money (in "cardholder not present" transactions, the merchant accepts all responsibility - please correct me if I'm wrong.)

It's likely 1-day has been stung by this one too many times and now they've instituted this protective measure.

I've had to do this once with another online seller when I bought a gift (shipping address different to billing address) and when I sent over the picture I blacked out my license no. and DOB etc and just left my name/address/photo and they were happy to send the package through.

I believe this policy should only be in place if the billing and shipping addresses are different. If you're using the same for both and you still get asked for ID etc then yes I agree that's a dealbreaker.

  • They cancelled my order too, It does not matter if the have been hit with fraud before, they have to look for more inteligent ways to avoid it, asking for scanned photo IDs or other personal information might prevent fraud affecting them but not their customers.

  • 1-day cancelled my order (upon my refusal to provide photo ID) rather fast, but are still yet to issue a refund:
