Sony 24" 3D 1080p 240hz Display Monitor (Refurb) with 12 Mo Warranty $130 + $9 Post @ 1-Day.com.au

875

This is a true bargain for a 3D Full HD 1080p monitor

Good news is the monitor has a VA panel (better than the TN that most cheaper monitors have)

Have never seen these so cheap. Selling @ Amazon for a whooping $385 USD

These are refurbs but come with a sony 12 month warranty for a piece of mind

Has 2 X HDMI, Component, Built in speakers with Subwoofer !!

Even a regular 24" monitor is hard to find @ this price

Enjoy

  • Could you connect an xbox to this also or just PC?

    • Its a gaming monitor so i would say yes

      • +2

EC a very tempting deal indeed, but quite a few of the reviews @ Amazon stated a "Red light error" & "screen blacking out" issue, 1-day does have a warranty policy, but it seems this was a troublesome model ?!

  • +5

PLEASE NOTE: THIS DEAL IS FOR THE MONITOR ONLY – 3D GLASSES ARE NOT INCLUDED

    • The 3D glasses only came with the North American Model, also with an HDMI cable and the Resistance 3

  • +1

Can you use for PC Gaming and see a 120+ frame rate?

    • +7

afaik, the 240Hz is marketing wank

you get 60Hz as a PC monitor

      • +3

        That's what I don't understand.

It only has HDMI inputs, you can't currently go past 60Hz on HDMI.

The only way they could be claiming 240Hz is frame-interpolation (inserting 'guessed' frames at a 3:1 ratio) and most of the time it looks completely bizarre known as the Soap opera effect.

The only advantage is the pixel-shifting thing (2 full screen images based on the 3d glasses).

        • +2

"and most of the time it looks completely bizarre known as the Soap opera effect."
Absolutely agree . It works sometimes but I find it far more natural with the extra hertz turned off . Lots of people don't seem to notice it until you turn it off for them .

      • 240hz seems a bit high so that may be a wank in general gameplay, but might work for 3D.

But I can guarantee you a higher refresh rate is not a wank.

Been a COD computer gamer for many years, sponsered etc, and going from 60hz to a 120hz makes a BIG difference. If I go back and play on a 60hz after playing on 120hz it looks like the screen is moving in blocks and hurts my eyes.

        • +7

          go back to cod

          *css + csgo snob here

        • +3

@Puska, HeXa means this monitor can't do 120 FPS, not that 120 FPS is useless.

        • @AFA:

120hz gaming is beneficial for all competitive FPS gaming (CS included), so not sure what your point is.

        • @Dr PhilGood:

fak. sorry . meant to press + but on touchpad pressed - instead :(

        • I would assume that the 240Hz refresh rate is there as this is an active 3D monitor. It will allow for a shorter blanking screen between the left and right image.

        • -3

          @Dr PhilGood:

my point is COD is shit and to leave us normal people (css) alone

        • -4

    • +2

The 240Hz is just the panel refreshing multiple times for each frame to reduce the motion blur you get with LCDs. The input will still only be 60Hz.

    • problem is, can you see the 120+ frame rae

      • +2

it doesn't matter whether you can resolve 120Hz frame refresh. Shorter duration frames (ie. faster refresh) ameliorates motion blur - a human eyesight deficiency accentuated by long duration frames containing motion.

      • +2

        Yes, you can.

  • Am I correct that this doesn't support D-Sub, DVI, or Displayport?

What does it mean by Component input? (Nvm, It's the system that uses the RCA plugs)

    • I've got a miniDP —> HDMI adaptor which lets me plug my mac into my tv. I assume this would be the same?

  • +9

    Sick Mate Sick!…. Subwoofer!

    • +2

Reading reviews it looks like its a shitty integrated sub, not a Pauly quality GODZILLA STEPPING one ;)

  • Doesn't have a remote either, these were released in 2011 for PS3

    • +1

remote was never bundles with this monitor. Its sold as an accessory

  • +8

these are seriously shitty shit shit - don't bother buying

There is a good reason there are so many refurbs available for sale on Newegg, 1day, etc… because they overheat and die

    • +5

      Yea just read the reviews…

      • +2

so did the brand new ones - does nothing to stop them failing

besides, you are paying for a 2nd hand refurb that has none of the advertised features being useful on a PC

        • -2

Well if you can find a 240Hz monitor with a VA panel, Built in speakers at this price, let me know

          Staticice

        • +4

@easternculture: You can't, but this only displays 60hz for regular PC inputs from what the reviews say.

      • +2

Lets get real.. Some addicts and Wow players play up to 16 hrs a day. Sorry but a monitor should be able to handle that.. If it cant its crap.

        • -3

Anything that overheats is prone of dying since the monitor board has silicon chips and lots of soldering work, same with any other electronics

        • +2

you dont need to be an addict to have a screen on for 16hours a day. monitors at work and uni are left on for much longer, sometimes for days on end. anything that cant last for a 24 hours stretch is lousy in my opinion. I'm NOT saying that its a bad deal, in fact its a pretty good deal, it's just that its longevity and failure rates are unacceptable for today's standards.

  • Can it be used as a PC monitor?

    • yes.

      • -6

I've found 1080p is not high enough res for a 24 inch monitor.

Edit: for productivity. This is probably great for gaming tho

        • +14

Yeah you need minimum 4K on 24" monitor otherwise its soooo unproductive /s

        • +2

I'll be sure to tell my company that I'd read emails quicker if my monitor was 4k lol

    • +1

You will need a 3D graphic card though for PC use.

  • -6

personally this isn't even worth 50 dollars with such a low refresh rate.
i certainly wouldn't call it gaming monitor.

    • Didn't know 60hz was 'low', where can I buy something higher for $50?

      • +2

same, im also interested in a 24" Monitor for ~ $50.

        • -2

I bought one off gumtree 6 months ago and used it for about 5 months before i sold it because i bought a brand new 27"
This was related to the 24" monitor for $50
not joking guy asking for $70 I said $50 cash pick up now :P

        • +6

          @holden93:

          Cool story bro :P

        • -1

@Knightelf:I'm going to guess you don't belive me for god knows what reason.

if you where a true ozbargainer you would know you can pretty easily find 24" 60hz screens on gumtree for $50-80 mark i even saw a 27" one once but didnt need it to had to pass :(

there's tons of used bargains to be had on gumtree and ebay.
i bought used Samsung galaxy s4 the other day on ebay $170 free postage nothing wrong with it working perfectly.

Keep thinking these types of bargains cannot be had more for me.
Have a good day mate :)

        • +7

@Knightelf: It was a good read. Hope they make it into a movie called "my $50 monitor from gumtree".

        • -2

          @holden93:

          cool story bro

        • @holden93:
I bought a 32" crt tv 10 years ago and sold it when I got a 42" lcd tv. Awesome hey!

        • @OzzyOzbourne:

Did you sell it for $50

        • -3

          @OzzyOzbourne: Bad story bro

        • @wolfenator87: Interesting idea mate but you will have to try harder for it tobecome a "Cool Story".

        • @holden93:

          gumtree link?

      • +4

Let me guess you are a console gamer?

    Average reviews:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824006…
    http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3D-display-3/product-revie…

3D and 240Hz is a gimmick that you wont use much.
    There are better alternatives.

    • Yikes, those reviews are scary. For $100 it's still not worth the trouble.

  • +5
    • shipping kills the deal

  • Wow, just wow!

  • +2

yeah.. these monitors have 2x HDMI and component input.. so even if you think you can get 120hz out of it with a PC, you can't.. you'll need displayport for that.. and yes i'm aware HDMI is theoretically possible to get 120hz, no manufacturer has ever implemented it..

    • Also possible with DVI-D.

  • +1

I could be wrong but I think this is the monitor that supports 3D dual view, in that you have two people viewing 2 different full screen scenes at the same time on a single monitor due to the way the glasses are able to switch to dual view mode.

    http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/09/sonys-24-inch-playstation…

I was pretty excited about it at the time as I pitched a similar idea to Panasonic when I was a member of their focus group they used to run, apparently SONY had the idea already in the works at the time.

    • +1

yes, there is dual view for ps3, with like 3? titles that support it

      • +2

        8 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_3D_PlayStation_3_games

But yeah, a shame it never really took off. I always thought it was a good idea for viewing 2 different types of content at the same time (so parents watching a movie whilst kids play a game or something on the same screen, via distinct headphone output as well).

        • +1

It would be great for playing 2 player games on a console.

        • +1

          @mobo:

Yeah, thats what its primarily for in this model, I dont think it supports anything else (TV + Gaming at same time etc). I think there are a few other TVs that support some form of dual view (LG springs to mind) but not sure if any allow you to send 2 different sets of audio to independent earphones.

  • +1

    Good Find EC Thanks

  • what is sony's warranty like. Do they pay for picking up the defective tv?

    • -1

I think considering that you get a 12 month warranty and you probably should be able to return it to a Sony Service Centre in most capital cities, it would be a safe buy, if you just want use it lots until it goes. It is possible they were demo ones from stores etc.
I would be happier to pay more for a better monitor as easternculture has noted above…Thanks OP.

      • +1

I bought a laptop from these guys, a refurb. Worked for 6 months and cramped it. I asked for a replacement, was assured on email that's what I wanted, even double checked. then after sending it in they get back to me with "too bad, we're refunding you". I even asked them to send me the dud unit back because it sounded like a hard drive problem which I could fix relatively cheaply (there's a small chance it was the board, but I was willing to guts that) but they refused. Took it to fair trade in, but guess what? They aren't an Australian co. They are from Nz so you have to take it up with Nz fair trading, which means you need to turn up I court in Nz! Worst experience ever, no recourse, bad services total waste of time, be warned.

  • +1

    anyone pulled the trigger?

    • +3

no not yet. No one worth killing yet !

    • Did it. I've now got a Gen8 MicroServer with a 3D screen (yes I put in a low-end HD5450 for HDMI).

Based on the theoretical statistic that 50% of OzBargainer's have a MicroServer, these may disappear quick ;)

  • +1

the price is good, but after reading the review, i wont bite the bullet. i am still quite happy with my 24 inch Acer purchased from PriceEngine years ago. (anyone here still remember them?)

    • +3

How can you possibly "bite the bullet" when unicorn888 has yet to pull the trigger, or did he?

    • +2

I'm not going to take the plunge until he's pulled the trigger and you've bit the bullet.

    • Got a couple of the 2TB WD Greens from PE, still going strong today.

  • Thanks EC. I'm a little wary as I'm aware of the reviews but the price is too good.

  • sick specs.. maybe in 2009..

    3watt subwoofer, why bother?

id so grab it, if it was a tad bigger

    thanks for post

  • Do.not.buy

    • +4

Could you be any less helpful? Why not?

    • -1

      Do buy

  • Window shopping in Sony store last week. A staff says Sony will stop selling computers/tablets soon.
    Does it matter?

    • They already stop computer , but not tablet.

    • Why would it?

(but this monitor sucks, read the reviews linked above).

  • Pretty tempted at that price!

  • -1

You will need a 3D graphic card that will support 3D monitor.

    • +1

AMD/Nvidia are 3d capable cards.. However, if you tried to use this as a 3D monitor on a PC, you're wasting your time.. 3D is only really achieveable on a PS3 with this monitor.

    • You don't say?

      • +3

yeah, do you also need 2 eyeballs to view 3D?

        • +1

you will also need electricity, cable, 3D glasses, and human being…..

  • +1

Bought it for my ps3 and second pc monitor, two hdmi in was the clincher.

  • thanks..

  • Tempting - if Refurbished = Repaired then perhaps the lifespan of these will be better?
Seems cheap even as a 24" monitor for your PC.

    • +1

Yeah I was thinking the same thing (BTW, I think I replied to you on Sony X earlier judging by your avatar and name. :)
