        • @Prothean @crazycs: is this a neg war or something? The ones I have seen in Target I believe were unsealed with the Club Nintendo card inside. Wouldn't be surprised if they were all taken. There was no disc in there though iirc? Not 100%.

      • Maybe for first party titles, but this is third party.

        • I'm not sure about WiiU but I know that all 3DS games in Australia are published by Nintendo, even the 3rd party stuff.

Accidentally hit the associates button it seems and now the forum refuses to let me change that.

        • Nintendo are the publisher, so it's treated in the same fashion as a first party release.

        • @crazycs: I see. This is disappointing. I don't know what they gain in doing this. I heard they don't print manuals, or skimp on them also, and still use those recycle cases with holes in them. I hope it's not to save money. Nintendo would be like Uncle Scrooge.

@lostn: it was supposed to be to help the environment but tbh the paper they save on booklets they only go and waste on this in store brochures that they are always pushing in stores like Target and BigW.

        • @lostn: well to be fair most new games for the past two years on Xbox and PS (ex and current gen) haven't gone with manuals. I've also noticed Xbox One game cases are flimsier now compares to the sturdy Blue Ray sized cases for PS4.

Cost cutting is everywhere these days. If physical media is still around in 30 years I reckon we may just end up back where it started, a simple thin CD case.

        • @crazycs: That'll work for me. But every generation of console, you will notice they try to distinguish cases from previous gens to not confuse people. They do it with changing sizes and colours. PS3 had clear Bluray cases to avoid the transparent blue that the movies use, then had to change the edges to make them less rounded, and made the blue non transparent for PS4.

If they go back to jewel cases, people might think they're CD antiques or something.

  • Didn't I see 47$ deals for this a week ago?

  • Sold out in melbourne but melton and fountain gate.

  • I keep hearing/reading contradictory info everywhere about whether Nintendo AU seals their games (from the factory w/ Nin branded shrinkwrap). Which is it? Y/N?

    • I've gotten sealed Nintendo games before with the Nintendo striping around it. Although I've also purchased many things like the recent Smash Bros which haven't been.

      • If you bought a game with a Nintendo branded seal, its imported stock (EU/UK).

        • After reading the next comment I thought that might've been the case and I just forgot.

    • +2

Nintendo AU does NOT seal their products. Stores may seal them.

Nintendo EU does seal their products. These come with a Nintendo branded seal going around them.

      • +1

        Absolutely correct.

No idea why Nintendo Australia do this….

        • +1

Well, all their discs come from NOE. A lot of them don't even have the Australian logo on them.

      • So going by this, the AU special ed. of B2's cases are not sealed w/ wrap?.

        • Nope. It's just two DVD cases in a box and the box isn't sealed unless a retailer puts one on it.

If anyone else has bought games from the UK you can do a comparision.

EU/UK games come shrink wrapped with a Nintendo branded seal to rip open. The blue DVD case is also alot more sturdier than the AU one which feels like it contains half the plastic and can bend quite easily.

        • @crazycs:

Thanks. I was refering to the 2 dvd cases within the cardboard box. Are they sealed? If not, they prolly packaged the contents in AU as previously mentioned & so hence not sealed.

        • @grab_ur_freebies: The two DVD cases inside the cardboard are not sealed. They are also the same plastic DVD cases that are used with all other local releases (easy to bend/quite flimsy).

        • @crazycs:

Cheers! Exactly what I wanted to know. Confirms that ALL Nintendo AU 1st party games [cases] do not come sealed & the cases are the thin/flimsy eco-friendly ones.

I will stick to buying UK vers.

        • @grab_ur_freebies:

Not quite. The majority of 1st Party Nintendo games (3DS, Wii, Wii U) are not sealed on their initial print run. The subsequent major runs do.
Because stock can take some time to filter through, you usually see games that are either popular or still current in the Nintendo line up getting another run, while some do not.

There are also some exceptions to this rule. A good example is Pokemon X/Y which came sealed on its first run which I found interesting.

I find stores that keep their games locked in a cabinet tend to have the sealed games. Others may have a few empty cases on the shelf and you can ask to see if they have any sealed copies behind the counter.

A few examples of games that didn't come sealed but had enough produced to have a sealed run are Nintendo Land, this was a pack in with the Premium Wii U and also the Skylanders Bundle. Majority of the Premium Wii U consoles and maybe all had Nintendo Land without a seal. The Just Dance add on Pack that came free with the Wii U basic console and some lucky shoppers getting for $1 (included Just Dance, Nintendo Land, Wii Remote and sensor bar) had quite a few with a sealed copy of Nintendo Land. I will have to check if they also changed the plastic case from solid to Eco friendly with cut outs but the first run came with the standard case.

Shops with glass cabinets or games on a shelf behind the counter are a good indicator. I was in a Target store and they had all their games locked away, Mario Party 8 and 9 for Wii were inside and they had many copies, all with no seal.
A Target in the next town had Mario Party 9 but it was sealed.
They had a bunch of other games as well which were sealed. They have no reason to gut those games as they are locked away and behind the counter.

Anyway, I have been following these for a long time and that is my experience.

        • @4892:

Thanks! Very insightful. Just wish they'd be more consistent in their production & packaging methods. Chance of getting a sealed game feels so flaky & hit n' miss… sigh

Guess we just gotta ask if they have any sealed copies before buying then.

  • well i'd like to buy it but jb hi fi have no sign of it on display

Went to my local JB and seems they're out of stock. Called other stores and same situation, looks like Nintendo didn't put enough stock out, which is a shame.

Probably explains why it's not even listed on the website anymore. I hope they don't change the voucher given the wait for new stock.

    • The game is listed in their New catalogue for $69 which starts Thursday

  • I just signed up for the free trial and got the voucher sent to my email, and then walked into jb at Kedron and went to the counter with Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros. The girl claimed that their vouchers don't work same day and you can only use them 24 hours later. Is that true?

I didn't bother to question anyway, just told her I'd come back tomorrow. But seems like in stock at Kedron, Brisbane as at 12 noon today.
