  • Other than being 4K, what exactly makes this worth anywhere near this much? I'm personally really happy with my BenQ W1070, $900 projector. I can't really see why anyone would pay this much for one.

    • Whilst I agree there's not much point to 4K at the moment, this price is pretty good for that projector, it's A$4500 in the US even.

Cheat, of course, is this actually a 1080p panel that jitters the image around to make up the 4k resolution.

    • +1

The people that are happy with a W1070 are not the same people that buy high end JVC 4k projectors. 4k is the future and is night and day better although it comes at a premium. I am happy with my Epson TW-3600 for the moment.

Um, that's like saying why do people buy Ferrari's when you are perfectly happy with your Corolla.

Some people just want better and are willing to pay for it.

      • -1

Not really, I genuinely want to know why someone would pay this much for a projector. There are quite obvious differences between a Ferrari and a Corolla, however the differences with this projector aren't really spelled out.

I'd say it's more like wanting to know why people buy Monster cables when I'm happy with my $2 cables.

        • @poedgirl Too Keep it short HDMI is a handshake protocol between the device. I am a engineering student and I have personally tested out few cables and its effect in a lab . The better the cable the better it transfers the data without conflicting the digital signals in "0" and "1" in high speed data processing , signals are also effected by lots of other factor such as Length it has to travel and etc. It might have little less effect on less than a 1 GB movies you are downloading and watching it through USB on your BD player, without sound system . but Only thing about $2 hdmi cable is you are missing out on the quality . I do understand Monstercables are expensive but , Hey they run with a industry standards. Unless you are ready to run the experiment out then Prove me wrong ! And regarding the 4k i wont waste my time. So, please read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution ……. I do understand their is always a Expert Person who knows everything , But i have tested it myself on this matter…So i can talk. :)

        • Other than being 4K

I haven't done any research whatsoever into projectors but I'm pretty sure you answered your own question with that.

Effectively you are buying a 1080p 2D/3D projector until 4K content is widely available. It's currently limited to the internet and given most Australian's don't have connections capable of streaming 4K, it becomes a future oriented purchase for the day that a physical format exists.

Of course, smart people won't pay the premium and will wait until the content technology is available at which point market competition will have driven the price down.

Then there's those who keep up with the Joneses and will blindly purchase a unit like this.

      • Don't worry. Apparently 4K blu-ray movies are arriving in 2015. That's so good if you have a 4K blu-ray player and perhaps a 4K projector (such as this 4K projector in the title) or Television. But hey isn't the PS4 going to be upgraded to 4K blu-ray playback through a future firmware update?.

        http://www.cnet.com/au/news/4k-blu-ray-discs-arriving-in-201…

        • So why not wait until 2015 when there's more competition and better pricing?

I've stopped short of saying it's pointless to buy now as some content does exist but you're paying a significant premium for what is largely an unsupported product.

I'll add this as well. The specs show no 4K 3D so (unless the specs are incorrect) when the 4K 3D capability is introduced you're going to have to replace the projector unless JVC include an upgrade option (unlikely).

      • As others have said, JVC are generally an enthusiats brand. This will do cinemascope (lens memory) and has a truly awesome black level, kills any DLP/LCD that I've seen. Anyone comparing this to a $900 projector and asking questions truly has no idea. What do they say? Ignorance is bliss?

4k has nothing to do with this projectors main benefits, it's colour accuracy and black levels are sublime. Just like the best 1080p Plasmas still outperform 4k LCDs, resolution is NOT as important as other factors 720p and above.

You're paying for the contrast ratio, the lack of screen door, and true colours. Its an enthusiast home theatre projector that needs good light control. it's not super bright.

Great price, a mate bought this for 4600 this week and that was a good price.
