  • I haven't been researching cameras lately, but that seems like a decent deal for an entry level DSLR.

  • That'd be a good price without the lens. With the lens? Dang.

  • does this body have the focus motor inside the body? (So you can use virtually ANY Nikkor lens)

    • Considered Nikon's 2 years local warranty, grey import and the free Casio watch seem not quite a bargain. Which model of the Casio watch BTW? Hopefully G-Shock? otherwise…

Casio Watch x 1 for FREE (Random Model)

So i guess the plastic $5.- one

    • Now if you could get the $50 back on that!

    • says cashback only applies to "authorised resellers", and only Australian ones it seems. with shipping it comes to $440, so $404 with aussie stock would be the better option

  • I have the d3100 from back in 2010, great camera for entry level, would strongly recommend just buying body only and getting a prime lens (35mm afs f1.8) or a fast zoom eg tamron 17-50 f 2.8. Invest in other things like a tripod and a flash and its perfect for any beginner. The kit lens is pointless and just collects dust in my room. Hoping to sell one day and move to fujifilm maybe x100s if i'm in a mood to splurge :P

    • while I hate kit lenses, this kit is hardly any more expensive than body-only

    • Agree… kit lens are useless… I bought the twin lens kit and now only sit nicely in the box. Just get one prime lens (35mm or 50mm) and one zoom (I bought sigma 18-250).

    • Kit zoom lens is not always that bad, since it's very practical when travelling around and shoot. Would we expect newbies take 35mm 50mm 85mm prime lenses travelling and shoot?

Photography beginners should never blame their gears more than blaming their shooting and pro-editing skills.

Here is one of my shots through a Sony NEX kit zoom lens (16-50mm), I am not a pro anyway, http://oi61.tinypic.com/345y6aw.jpg

I bought same camera with same lens for $394 from Ebay-kogan in July. It was 20% toys sale in Ebay and Kogan mistakenly put it on toy category. I am very happy with this camera and it is still a very good price.
