Pre-ordering New Nintendo 3DS XL

Hi guys, does anyone know where I can pre-order the New Nintendo 3DS XL?

I've looked at EB and JB Hi-fi ($249) and neither Target or Big W are offering any pre-orders. Is this usually a case where they wait closer to release date or does it seem like they just won't sell the console at all?

I pre-ordered Pokemon Omega Ruby from EB already so I might just pre-order the console with them for less hassle and more carrots! As an aside, can anyone give me any insight as to the usual process for picking up pre-ordered items from EB? First-timer here!

Thanks :)

I recommend pre-ordering from EB (no, i'm not associated with them… but I've pre-ordered heaps of 3DS games from them). Usually, Target/Big W comes up with their promos really really close to the release date (for games eg. Smash Bros 3DS and Pokemon X/Y) and it does tend to be cheaper than EB, BUT you can price match them even though it's a pre-order (I'm collecting carrots as well).

Picking up pre-orders from EB is pretty simple. It's all recorded inside your membership card, so even if you lose the receipt, just as long as you have your membership card, you're good to just pay the remaining cash and pick up your game/console (or at least it has been with my usual EB store).

    • How early do you recommend getting to the store on release day? Are there usually long lines or such?

      • A long line for Pokemon? Not really, probably just a few people when it actually opens.
I don't see the NEW 3DS (ie, the 3DSi) flying off the shelves.

        • Nintendo games tend to have rather short lines. For example: Tropical Freeze released and I just waltz into EB. Girl there tells me to preorder to ensure there's a copy there. Looked round the store, absolutely nobody there, with a nice sarcastic "Yeah, tough line up", picking up my game and whistling Jungle Japes as I stroll out the store.

          Deal with it.

      • There's never been a queue in my experience. And I usually go to the main EB store on Swanston St.

  • Yeah I preordered mine from EB although I rarely preorder. JB doesn't seem to let you pick it up Friday and will instead ship it out which means you'll get it on the following Monday at the earliest. If I can pricematch to save a few bucks, that's a bonus.

    • JB had some pretty decent prices ($49 for ORAS vs. $59 at EB) but I decided to go with EB and ask for a price match later on.
