  • Damn. Should a waited.

  • Panel costs $499 http://itechworld.com.au/products/200w-conventional-panel not $899. They are overstating the value of this subscription.

    • Still a great deal at $199! Pity it doesn't come with a bag.

      • Good value for money if you are loooking for a cheap solar panel.

        • Cheap, Good

. Pick any ONE of the above… ;-)

  • Also, the charge controller isn't really specified like on the 120W deal. The only mention of mppt is on the mag webpage, not the actual product page. The photo on the actual product page looks like a cheap pwm controller.

  • Obviously you sign up for automatic renewal of your subscription but would that be for 12, 20 or 24 months ?

  • Should I get this just to charge my laptop or run the outdoor fan during summer? What else do I need? 12v inverter?

    • 200W is overkill right? most laptop chargers are under 70W

      • well, assuming i don't get a lot of sun in the backyard, i don't think it would be at full 200w? no?

      • Peak output is 200W, but less if cloudy or overcast, then there will be losses through any battery and inverter. Overkill with solar panels is useful for those dull days and other losses.

    • you'll really need a battery, it can be made to work without but it's a little dodgy.

Battery(s) to match this panel setup are about $250-$500

a 12v/8amp ($60) battery or old car/motorcycle battery will work if you wanted cheap. One of those large nihm powerpacks could also be used.

as far as an inverter, try to do it without - buy a car fan that works off 12v

      a laptop charger that goes from 12v - 19v(laptop) is between $40-$80

it depends on circumstances but for a car fan + laptop 60-80w panel(s) are fine, with 200w + 150ah of battery you could run a small fridge and tv.

  • I also wonder if they are replacing the controller to "MPPT Technology provides up to 30% more power" rather than the cheap PWM controllers stated on their website, otherwise I want my money back.. As stated above the $499 one for sale on their website has the PWM..

    • I watched some YouTube videos confirming that some cheap controllers that are advertised as MPPT simply don't do it. If you do purchase anything which promises MPPT, see if you can find any reviews that confirm it really is MPPT:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA3X8XLxWHU
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la-gvy0DfJs

There are far too many to share here, but doing a search for MPPT is a good start. There are some fairly cheap controllers that have been confirmed to work very well.

      • I suppose I won't know until I get & use it…Now just waiting on a 100AH battery deal..

  • This seems far too cheap. What's the catch? Has anybody who ordered from the last deal received their 120W panel yet? Or are they just fishing for credit card numbers before the company owner bails the country?

  • More pictures here: http://www.camperdeals.com.au/deals/200w-foldable-solar-pane… things seem to have been updated since but shows a bit more of the design

Video here: It is the 160w version though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MelwkHbvKQk

I went for the Roc-Solid deal, from looking at the above links I am glad I did due to the build quality/design, plus 120w is enough for my needs.

  • No the magstore has been around for a while.
I reckon they are just looking for subscriptions but with automatic renewal.

  • Does anyone know the weight for this panel?

    • +1

      Review says 18kg.

  • Anyone know about cancelling the subscription early and getting a pro-rata refund? >:)

  • Did you guys get your stuff yet? People have been doing PayPal disputes in the earlier deal from these turkeys.

  • I got my Solar Panel about 2 weeks ago. It has a PWM controller on it and I am not sure if it is actually working.
Got my first magazine today, but I have requested they change it to the Camper Trailer one, which they are doing.

The controller on the panel is a bit hard for me to work out if it is actually working as it should be. Would love some assistance if anyone else has theirs yet. i.e. I can't get it to keep the sealed battery light on, and the big red LOAD light just seems to stay on all of the time ??

    Cheers

    • Good idea. I also received my Solar Panel about 2 weeks ago.
I received my first issue on Friday, and I've had a quick look at the magazine and DVD, definitely aimed at the grey nomad age group…

I think I'll try to change my subscription to either Camper Trailer Touring or 4WD Action.

How did you contact them? Phone, email or Facebook?

      • Email, the one on the order confirmation. I don't have it handy atm, but see how you go.

        • I ended up ringing and got through without a huge wait, I switched mine to the Camper Trailer Touring without any issue or any questions asked… so that's good… I got the solar panel (which I'm yet to try, I must test it out this week) and a magazine I wanted… :)
