  • Crazy good price

  • +1

This isn't that WA supplier that stuffed up the price of the EM5 last month is it?

    • +6

No it is not. We honour our errors always if any.

    • That was Camera Electronic.

      • Ok thanks guys!

  • Sensational price. Over $200 less than even gray import. So much so, I'm sceptical.
$699 at Digidirect. $625 at DWI.
Maybe it's being discontinued and others may follow in lower price?

    • +2

Hi Hen Dawg, we would expect this camera to be discontinued early next year, hard to know at this stage. We just did a bulk special on this particular color black.

  • Wasn't it two years ago that the e-m5 had won the camera of the year award? Sign of an extremely competitive market.

  • Are you serious Rep, are these brand new or returned stocks? The price is in sane…

    • +2

Hi Jva, all brand new stock with Olympus 2 year Australian warranty. Just a bit of a special before Xmas :)

      • All done, waiting for your delivery :)

  • damn, wish you did a similar discount with the em-1

  • Thanks OP, purchased…

  • Are lens' for this expensive, or about the same price a DSLR?

    • They range in price, you can get a great sigma lens like this http://www.leedervillecameras.com.au/products/lenses/sigma/s…

    • -2

Personally, I think m43 lenses are expensive for what they are. They're pretty comparable prices to lenses for larger formats.

You can pick up a used m43 camera like an epl1/2 or epm1 for about $100 with the kit lens, but to get a fast standard lens (like a 25mm f1.8) is $400 - comparable to a canon 50mm f1.4. Also remember that, with such a small sensor, depth of field won't be very shallow even with an f1.8 lens.

      • Along with relatively compact camera bodies, micro-four thirds lenses are also usually compact. In the practical world where one's job is not just to take photographs (e.g. we also need to carry lunch for the kids), small is good and often demands a premium, not just equivalent, price.

I don't think any full-frame or even APS (the standard SLR sizes) would allow me to carry a 120 mm macro (full-frame) equivalent in my work-case, sitting on top of my lunch. And my laptop. And my stethoscope, opthalmoscope, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, personal protective equipment and other assorted medical equipment and still be light enough to carry as I walk from one home visit to another.

There are some delightful small and sort-of cheap lenses for micro-4/3 like the 9 mm body-cap lenses (18 mm full-frame equivalent, 30 grammes in weight) which although not providing awesome image quality, especially in the corners, emphasises the practicality of the micro-4/3 system in allowing a casual photographer to carry multiple lenses with minimal weight penalty.

        http://robinwong.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/olympus-9mm-fisheye…

For the majority of photography, e.g. with two or more people, or a moving person interacting with something interesting, shallow depth-of-field is more a hindrance than a help. Although my micro-4/3 60 mm macro opens up to f2.8, the majority of the time I will shoot at f4-f8 (and still get all the background blur I need), and when photographing moving bees and butterflies, often f10.

  • Awesome price! Any deals for weathersealed 4/3 lens?

    • +4

Hello, no we cannot do any further on this deal as it is already quite low.

    • lol

    • -1

Well then buy a cheaper camera :P Plenty out there

  • Awesome price. Would jump on this if I don't already own a E-P5. Might get an Oly 25mm lens though if there are deals.

  • +1

Hello Rep. Any deal on a lens package with this? Previously there have been $1199 or less deals for OMD EM5 with the 12-40 lens which gets great reviews. The craziest deal was a year ago for about $1099. Can you do similar? Thanks

    • Olympus OM-D E-M5 w/ 14-42mm & 40-150mm Twin Lens Kit $699
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/169473

      • 12-40mm lens is completely different scenario with the twin lens in your link.

        • Any deal on a lens package with this?

          Yes, there is.

If you want to be pedantic:
          Olympus OM-D E-M5 Elite and 12-40mm F2.8 Pro Kit $1,199 + shipping

        • @Max Power:

Obviously the bloke was asking the 12-40mm Pro kit, more appropriate to switch over your two comments, but the prices within your new link seems not attractive either…

        • @jva:

Feel free to post a better price.

  • Hi Rep, is it possible to have the silver EM5 for the same price?

    • Hello, it was only the black at this price, however we have now run out of our stock at this price

      • +1

thanks for the reply. I bought one in the ozbargain spirit :)

  • Tempting, but don't have any micro four thirds lenses yet. Hey rep, any better pricing if combined with the olympus 25mm f1.8?

    • Literally 30 seconds late. Can you honour this price?

      • +1

  • Rep I'm seeing $648… please help?

      • You can email [email protected] and we can see if we can get the cameras again at this price

  • +1

Yes we sold over 30 units, we can only supply 3/4 of that. The stock was limited.

    • My wife purchased me one for Xmas at the $399 price. I assume you will honour that? Your comment above makes me a little nervous…

    • +2

22.5 !! Some unlucky ozbargainer might just get half a camera :)

      • +3

        The OMD EM-2.5

    • +3

Maybe that's why we call it Micro Four Thirds?… oh wait, that's Three Fouths here…

  • about a year ago Gerry Gibbs had OMD EM5 Elite with 12-40 f2.8 lens for $899 after cashback from Olympus.
That was a great deal and maybe Rep can get the same or better deal one year down the track?

    • yes excellent deal then, acutally it was only 5 months ago

      • i remember i was overseas 5 months ago. i tried very hard not to place the order. now when i wanted to place the order, its sold out.
