Unlimited Mobile Calls/SMS & 3GB Data - $33/Month (No Contract) @ Better Life Mobile (for Health Care Card Holders ONLY)

1261

ONLY ELIGIBLE FOR PEOPLE WITH A CENTRELINK HEALTHCARE CARD- NO LONGER A BARGAIN for most.

Three plans (no minimum term, month to month, pay in advance) on the Optus 3G/4G network:

  • BLC Mobile Phone Plan $33 per month 3GB data

  • BLC Mobile Phone Plan $43 per month 6GB data

  • BLC Mobile Phone Plan $53 per month 9GB data

Cheapest 4G plan I could find (with decent amount of data). Previously posted on OzBargain but required Centrelink Health Care card for these plans. Now they are available to everyone.

  • No signup or SIM charge
  • Data charged per kB
  • No live usage data app/website but will get usage warnings via SMS/email.
  • Data is capped and will be cut off for the month when you go over (will not be charged for excess usage but you will be cut off until the next month)
  • No international calls or international texts.

Also I ported out of my Voda $80 red cap 4 months into my 24 months. Gonna try fight them :P Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

    • I tried to sign up and it clearly asks for health care number. How did you do it without having hcc???

      • I'm currently on vaya $18 plan with $650 call and 1.5gb data. Since my phone is dual sim I also have an extra$11 for 1gb data plan with Yatango. So in total I pay $29 for 2.5gb data, but this plan is $4 more with unlimited phone calls and extra 500mb data. Sounds tempting…

  • Wow that is cheap. Good find OP, Will sign up when i get home.

  • +1

That's an awesome package. Having just moved to Australia I was shocked at how expensive mobile and internet costs. Thanks to you guys I see that it can be a lot more affordable. I'll go for this when I don't need my international calls any more.

I noticed on the spintel site the allow location popup listed the URL as www2.optus.com.au.

    • Welcome. Well done on finding OzBargain…

  • if only there was a way to get out of my Telstra contract 8 months early…

    • I still think vacation $18 deal is best value. It also helps if you have a dual sim smartphone because you can have 2 plans which save money. I have $18 vacation and also $10 Yatango 1gb Extra data for a grand total of $28 for $650 of calls and 1.5gb(vaya)+1gb(Yatango) =2.5gb data.

      • I have $18 vacation and also $10 Yatango 1gb Extra data for a grand total of $28 for $650 of calls and 1.5gb(vaya)+1gb(Yatango) =2.5gb data.

So, you are saving $12 a year. Vaya's $29 has the same $650 of calls, unlimited SMS, and 2.5GB of data.

I voted for this post because of these :
    1-Data charged per kB
2-Data is capped and will be cut off for the month when you go over
Otherwise is not a bargain for $33
$18 Vaya still works better for me with around 600MB (they say 1.5GB but shows 600MB when is up) as I always have wifi access and data is off, then that should be more than enough.

    • Can't agree more. It's perfect for my wife cos she can't go over where as on vaya she would probably rack up a massive bill

    • $18 Vaya still works better for me with around 600MB (they say 1.5GB but shows 600MB when is up)

are you saying that you only reach 600mb per month?

  • +2

Been on this plan a few months. It's honestly perfect, hassle-free support from Russel and his team, no bill shocks and awesome data! Thanks for sharing this with others and getting them out there!

    • Also there's a rumour that's there's actually a usage app on the way! So another + soon

  • +1

I'm gonna wait to see if people actually successfully stay on this plan without being contacted for a HCC.
To be honest this part of the post doesn't really inspire confidence as OP seems to generally ignore terms and conditions based on a whim…eg. "Also I ported out of my Voda $80 red cap 4 months into my 24 months. Gonna try fight them :P Will be interesting to see how this turns out."

    • -1

dude, you dont need a health care card. It doesn't say it's required anywhere…

2ndly, it is my right and choice to port out of Vodafone. Has nothing to do with Better Life Communications.

      • You do need a health care card for the rates displayed. 6 bucks extra without one. They will email asking for your card details after you purchase, just a heads up.

Worth updating the details so people don't just jump on the plan expecting the prices stated. A quick read of the whirlpool forum will shed some more light on this.

        • hmm ok. i will put something up on post. (im not rep though)

        • @edwinlin88: cool. Website is such a mess, I too thought the plan was set at those prices for all. I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

        • @dinalt:

Yes, the website needs a lot of updating and theres a lot of conflicting info on the HCC situation. Some say no, some say yes….but don't let all that put you off :) even at $6 extra it's still great value to be honest.

  • +2

Ah snap, no way to add credit for international calls. Makes this unusable for me unfortunately :(

  • +1

Can someone tell me if this has Call conferencing? Like call waiting but u can merge the 2lines together (3way,4way)
Im currently with amaysim $45 but it only has standard call waiting i cannot merge or call a third person (conference)

Facebook page for those interested and a good place to ask questions.

  • Just joined up with these guys. You'll find that without a health care card you'll need to pay an extra $6 a month. They will allow you to purchase the plan at the cheaper rate, but will later email asking for a your card details.

    • If true than it would be a good time for the rep to point that out. It should prob be in there critical info. Otherwise ACCC time. Big fine coming sucker

      • +1

well I'm not a rep, but yeh if that's true then very misleading

  • +3

I hope they stay around for a while, it seems everytime I switch to a provider they go out of bussines(or lower the data). Perevious kogan, aldi and boost customer.

  • +1

I am fairly sure you will need a health care card. These guys get cheaper rates from Optus because it is primarily targeted at low income earners, students, etc.

  • +2

Can a mod please update - they posted on Facebook 'Confirming that we have 3 different mobile phone plans starting at $33 per month for people with a Health Care Card'

    • +3

Not sure how I can message a mod. Don't want a bunch of self righteous people going to ACCC or Optus or someone else and putting the whole enterprise at risk. They aren't big pocketed folks with slimy lawyers on call - please pay an extra $6 that you can well afford or go bargain hunting elsewhere.

      • I agree, I hope they update their website as well soon.

  • -3

    no bargain :(

    • +1

It's a shame really. This is what all mobile plans in the smartphone age should be. Luckily I have a health care card….what happens when it expires is another story.

      • +1

Im' also curious- what happens when it expires? Did anyone ask BLC?

        • +1

Two people have posted on their facebook page and are awaiting reply.

    • +3

      Why not?
Just because it's not applicable for you doesnt make it "no bargain"

      • -1

Just because it's not applicable for you doesnt make it "no bargain"

It is their normal price. All the plans are the same price they have always been. No deals, no bargains. BLC have been well and truly covered in other forum threads on OzBargin before now.

This post belongs in the forums section.

        • +3

Except many people (myself included) are only finding out about it now.
It's still cheaper than any other telco so it's still a bargain.
          BLC $33
          Jeenee $35
          Vaya $57

Plus it's the only one which affordably offers an additional 3gb data for $10.

        • +1

          @cpho:

          it's still a bargain.

Well, even the OP now states ->

          NO LONGER A BARGAIN.

        • normal price doesnt make it not a bargain. beimg cheapest comparable offering in market does. anyway its a bargain if users think it is and as a frequent lurker and non-rep i knew thjs post would be appreciated regardless if it strictly follows rule of bargain.

but yeh because its not avail to everyone thats why i dont consider it a generally available bargain.

"our 3 current plans are for holders of Health Care Card holders only - $33, $43 and $53 per month with different levels of data included. I hope this clarifies that our plans are only for holders of a Health Care Card."

    • Hey!

I was just quoting from the BLC FaceBook page.

      https://www.facebook.com/BetterlifeCommunications

"our 3 current plans are for holders of Health Care Card holders only - $33, $43 and $53 per month with different levels of data included. I hope this clarifies that our plans are only for holders of a Health Care Card."

Go Neg them, or make your comments on their FaceBook Page.

It looks to me as though OPTUS told them "NO MORE USERS WITHOUT HEALTH CARE CARDS!" - And this must have started from November 1st. Before that date they accepted new users at $6 extra on top of their usual prices.

  • The best deal, in my view, is Boost. For $39.95 monthly, unlimited everything except data (2.5GB). Auto recharge now available, and on the Telstra network (3G). Very helpful staff. My wife is also moving from Aldi to Boost, now that Aldi has reduced their plan entitlement. Optus resellers also have good deals, but we are in an Optus black spot, and Telstra coverage is the best.

    • I left Kogan to Aldi now Telechoice

  • I'm on a $28 plan with telechoice (Telstra network). The kogan offer https://www.telechoice.com.au/kogan-offers
I get $650 credit (10hrs talk time), unlimited txt and 2.5gb data. There is an app I downloaded on the Play Store called 'MyUsage' to keep an eye on the balance

    • No 4G

  • Boost has increased data to 2.5gb unlimited sms. mms. $40 pm 3g only but good speeds I'm mostly in the country and never had black spot yet

  • Do you just need the Health Care Card when you sign up? I've got one now, but I won't for much longer

Why neg them? They're offering a decent service for those that carry a health care card. They were offering a great deal for the extra 6 bucks but they're not in a position to do that anymore. Get over it and move on instead of trying to bring the company down . Yes, the website is a mess and somewhat misleading - but this is a small organisation run by a skeleton team who are obviously new to the game.

      • +4

I agree, they've decided to do this I think to keep the customer base low so they can handle the support at current level and keep costs down. Instead of having to deal with truckloads of Ozbargainers. I say good luck to them, their service is doing a good thing for disadvantaged.

      • Why neg them?

I am not and did not neg the BLC business.

I voted neg on this deal/bargain posting. As it is not a deal/bargain. The prices are their usual/normal prices for people who have a Health Care Card. They have been this way for just on three years now.

    • Must have been recent. I emailed them back in september with this response:

      Hi XXXXXXXX

      Yes we are Optus 4G

Prices with a HCC are $33 for unlimited and 3GB. Without a HCC its $39

      Cheers

      Russel Barnes

      • VERY recently, I think maybe even in response to this post…or at least this month.

But I understand their reasons and I think those who've already signed up without a HCC get to stay, but it's yet to be confirmed.

  • what deal comes close to this for the non holders of heath cards?

  • If you can live with the lousy vodafail network, the Vodafone offer for $25 - unlimited local calls and txt and 300 overseas minutes with 3gb data seems like a better deal.

    • +2

If you can live with the lousy vodafail network, the Vodafone offer for $25 - unlimited local calls and txt and 300 overseas minutes with 3gb data seems like a better deal.

IF there is such an offer - you should post it as a bargain.

      • -1

Sorry for the late reply, with Vodafone there is a $50 red plan which is currently 50% off for six months however the offer is only on post pay and you might have to take up another service with them for one month.
Iam hoping this will be extended after six months however I might have to move to another provider. I signed up about a month ago.
If you need to call international numbers this is a very good deal even for six months. You can check the deal in store, I will check it for vslidity.
        Some discussion here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158268

          Sorry for the late reply,

Deal was for existing PostPay customers only - AND the offer finished on November 4th.

    • +1

never heard of such a deal

    • +1

      Is this real?

      • +2

        Is this real?

        I think he is confused.

There was a 'join for 24/12(?) months and get the first few months 6/3(?) at half price' deal.

        • +1

          Ah yes…I remember that now.

        • +1

          Brainwhacker, brainwhacked his own brain.

  • +1

well looks like im staying with boost since this isn't even offered to me without a HCC.
no other cheap offer other then spintel which id say being on telstra is worth the extra $4 every month.

  • -1

Optrse never really did believe in competing with itself.. . Support withdrawn.
+ for those who could use more functionality with their voice, check out Easternculture's tip the other day https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/169564 in case you missed that earlier..
May be a cause worth supporting. Backed by a Skype founder.
+ After Skype, an uncharged US number could be a useful swap. Thinking to use mine with those recharges 14.25/4G ready cards for=1.2gb<4gb 180 to 30days. +30min.d backup:p.

  • Health Care Card Holders - would that be like a Green coloured Medicare Card for people in QLD? Sorry for my ignorance

    • na diff to medicare.

it's like a card you get when you're on some sort of Centrelink benefit. Dont think everyone who's on centrelink gets it though.

  • so for those who are interested, Vodafone made a mistake with the paperwork when they signed me up on a $80 x 24month plan.

They had put $80 as "minimum total cost over term"…. so I was under the impression that I had fulfilled that when quitting after 3 months.

We came to an agreement that I'd return the phone and they would drop the exit fees.

  • Got my healthcare card, time for me to signup!

  • Anyone still waiting for their BLC SIM card? Signed up back before Christmas and still waiting, even with a HCC. Anyone sign up after Christmas/New Year and receive theirs yet?
