The best way to see the dates applicable to the fares is by using the Matrix ITA site. Then plug the dates into Kayak or whatever site to get the fares. I can't seem to pull up the flights on Philippine Air's site. I'm seeing this price ($738) for most of the year.

This price is on par with Jetstar's deal of $410OW however looking at similar dates it would cost you $961 using Skoot & Jetstar (w/o fees). However, note Philippine air prices INCLUDE baggage, seats, credit card fees, and food. None of the drip pricing that Jetstar does. Using Skidoo my total including everything is AUD$691.14.

Note that some of the flights go into Haneda and some into Narita. You can even go into 1 airport and out the other if that's your thing. February would be ski season over there.

Had a look at Cebu and the current fares for similar dates are $673 from Sydney to Manilla and $426RT from Manilla to Tokyo, not including baggage fees.

Woo! Thanks for the credit, I was on my way here to work out how to post on OzBargain this morning (never posted a deal before) and found your comprehensive post, with credit - cheers!

Ha. Cheers. I couldn't sleep last night and I was worried someone was going to beat me to it.

      • If you couldn't sleep because you thought someone was going to beat you to it, you're a true OzBargainer. The Bargain is strong in this one.

don't choose Philippine airline, their aircrafts are very old, and manila airport is the worst airport!!! rubbish food, extreme dirty toilet without water and paper!!!!!!!!!!

You do know this website is called Ozbargain?

I think you've mistaken it for Ozluxury

compared to Jetstar ( direct flight ) , just save $200. it is not worth to risk in manila at all!!!

        • +5

          What's the risk?

        • +1

one more landing is a risk anyway.

Excellent pricing for the ski season. I flew Philippine Airlines last year to China, staying for a night in Manila. I would highly recommend against leaving the airport. Taxi will charge you over $30 AUD to take you into the city (one way). Also I happened to have my wallet stolen within one hour after landing.

    • Sounds like Manila.

  • Good price! Too bad, there is 1 stop in MNL from Melbourne… Not handy with 2 kids, otherwise i'll jump in.

  • Has anyone used bravofly ? are they reliable ?

    • +1

In another thread, Bruce was saying they charge in Euros and there is a credit card admin fee. Other than I think they are fine.

      • +1

Neil has linked to my original feedback about BravoFly…

As a discount ticket sales site - no real issues, once you work out you will be charged an admin fee no matter how you pay, and the payment is in Euros (payment on site shows in Au$). I paid by PayPal for safety, & through 28Degrees to avoid conversion fees. Their site did not recognise any of my credit cards.

I found the Jetstar Dreamliner direct flight through iwantthatflight.com.au for additional discount, which directed to BravoFly.

Also booking did not show on Jetstar site, but confirmed ok by call to Jetstar (by automated confirmation).

In Tokyo now, for total of $600 round trip (carry on, from Gold Coast) returning week before Christmas. Was $210 cheaper than Jetstar Sale price for same flights. My usual Jetstar flights have been $400-430 return.

From contact found a $150/wk room in 4 bedroom apartment on pedestrian shopping street near Asakusa - comfy Western style double bed, air con with heating, free WiFi from my bed (10C at 9am), & free breakfast of good muesli, juice & coffee at local Inn. Sharing big lounge / dining room, adequate kitchen, 24hr hot shower / Japanese bath, washlet style toilet with heated seat. (Accommodation is mainly for long term stay, but seems these places have vacancies at this time of year. No, there is no website & vacancies are rare in such a small apartment.) Even threw in some old but almost unused Yukata, happi coats & a stack of beautiful Obi to keep. Walking distance to local fish market for ¥1080 huge bowl of melt in the mouth sashimi & clam soup.

Great value now there is ¥101 to the au$. I'm even luckier, paying in us$ I bought cheap, giving me ¥140 to the aud after exchange fees.

And for those wanting an Aussie gift for locals (always a laugh when they make out they are choking due to the sweetness compared to local treats) or missing the sweet taste of home, Aussie made Tim Tams are ¥279 ($2.75, just a bit more than Coles/Woolies) at my local super(market), or at Kaldi Farm Coffee stores.

Just get the best price as you can from the worst ever website you will never buy from. screenshot the price at checkout and send this to a travel company like flightcentral or escapetraval and they will do the same price -$1 and you will have the booking done thru a travel agency so no risk.
I have been doing that for all my latest trips !

Can you stop-over in Manila? would be handy to visit family.

  • Should i take this or wait and see if Jetstar has a sale?

    • +1

Take this. I can see your future. You are going to have a career change and you decide that you'd better not travel overseas for a few years. Then you will grow to love goats. You will buy a small property near Wonthaggi and become a goat farmer. You will be happy and comfortably wealthy but you will not travel again. You will just live in Wonthaggi with your goats. Your favourite goat will be called "Melody".
