  • I've had this tablet for a few weeks now.
    The screen is beautiful.
Performance is great (but I have rooted and disabled a bunch of stuff like multi-window and other bloatware)

I highly recommend the Moko case (the Slim-Fit Multi-angle Folio Cover Case) if you can get one forwarded from US/UK.

    • Ditto - had one for a couple of months and it's an excellent tablet.

Saw this advertised and went and got another one for the wife for xmas

This is a good price for this Samsung tablet.

Although Id still consider the LG 8.3" full HD model for $100 less
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/tablets/lg/lg-g-…

    The Samsung is higher spec:
    - 2560x1600 Super AMOLED display (rather than 1920x1200 IPS LCD)
    - faster 8-core 1.9 GHz CPU (rather than 4-core 1.7 GHz)
    - an extra 1GB ram (3 vs 2)
    - double the storage (32 vs 16 GB)
    - and larger battery, so the extra $100 might be worth it.

    • Storage is the same, this post is for the 16GB but you've compared the larger storage version.

      • Ahh yes you are right, I was looking at the side by side comparison from phonearena, and assumed it was the same model.

    • Beats the LG considerably

I believe the LG has real good build quality though, and you can get it in gpe which is better than touchwiz.

Sounds like this is good judging from comments , but $400 for an 8" seems steep.

  • You could get a new ipad mini 2 for $369 or less.

Thats another option in this segment.. although 0.5" smaller screen (7.9) with lower resolution… half the storage space.. no option to add SD card.. the LG beats it for $70 less, and the Samsung beats it even more for just $30 more.

    • Ime iOS 8 is awful on anything other than the iPad Air 2. Lacking memory means pages have to be reloaded every time you switch tabs. Some websites take ages to load thanks to lack of memory, and Safari often crashes. Also the screen is abysmal on the iPad mini 2, its certainly no comparison to the Samsung Tab S. I personally would avoid any of the cheaper older iPads.

someone didn't read the post ;)

      • lol

Na, I didn't read the whole

  • Is 16GB enough for applications? I know I might have to add a memory card for media.

    • It seems to be enough for apps, I'm storing apps and about 5 or 6 GB of media on it and I'm down to 3GB left.
I'm about to buy a 64GB microSD to help me out.

Been cheaper in the past in this deal The only problem with this tablet is the build quality and Touchwiz.

    • What's wrong with the building quality, other than it being premium and awesome?

      • This is one of the negative things I've seen consistently in reviews.
It revolves solely around the use of plastic…
iPads rock the socks because they've got aluminium shells, Galaxy Tab S is trash because it's made of plastic and has a cheap and crappy chrome bezel around it which is crappy and cheap.

IDK, I think the build quality is great. I'm not really fussed about the use of aluminium vs plastic, especially when I have it in a case.

        • +1

Aluminium bends easier as we've just found out..

    • I have one, I see nothing wrong with build quality. Also, I notice a lot of peoples complain about Touchwiz, I have this tablet and Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 2013 edition, I did not see any difference in speed or user interface, this tablet works smoothly and speedy for anything I throw at it. Only time it have problem is when you play games, it get hot pretty fast but all my other tablets and phones also get very hot fast, so it is a general weakness, not specific to this tablet only.

I don't understand why Touchwiz is bagged every time Samsung phones/tablets are mentioned.

Its like writing off Windows because it comes with Internet Explorer…. if you dont like IE, install Firefox or Chrome and dont use IE - its really not a problem.

Install NOVA Launcher (or others) for free in around 30 seconds - no more Touchwiz.

      • Only had terrible experiences with Touchwiz in the past. It hogs the phones memory and storage and slows the system down overtime. Even just opening apps is slower than other comparable Android platforms. It may be innovative through the addition of all the extra features but most of these are useless or are a laggy mess. I think it will be better when Samsung releases more of their products with Tizen OS cause then at least they can optimise their software and hardware therefore increasing the performance and stability of the OS.

I hope you realise touchwiz isn't just a launcher. In most cases touchwiz is known to be slower than stock android. Simple as that.

    • oooh…. and the eBay site is telling me I can buy it for $359 - apparently I have a 10% discount voucher in my eBay account I didnt know about…
