  • Currently have a 50" Samsung Plasma purchased back in 2008, still runs perfectly fine no issues, would It be worth my time to upgrade it to a 60" ? Obviously power consumption would be lower with this new TV Compared to my Plasma one right?

    • +3

Keep the plasma, unless your really uptight about power usage, but buying a new TV kind of evens the costs, for plasma users wait for 4k oled tv, they are the only ones that really compare in screen quality

True, I think I paid around $2,200 back then for this size, and honestly I think the image is perfectly fine..

  • Dupe

  • Great price, good find OP

  • I got this TV (price match with hn) on Thursday. Great picture and nice looking TV. But, viewing angle is poor (I had a Panasonic plasma before this) front on the TV is amazing, but much more than 30 degrees off centre and you can really notice the color fade.

Still an amazing TV, I love the screen casting from my nexus tablet.

    • I got mine price beat at HN yesterday for 1200 flat. I think it might be possible to (oz)bargain the price down lower. I'm just not as good an ozbargainer as I thought I was :-(

I went in store to get this one, bought the 7 Series (55inch) instead due to better panel quality and viewing angle.

  • @bargainchampion did you buy7000, How is the quality? My brother recently purchased a 7000 serious but the blacks are that great it looks bit Coulda. Like someone holding a touch from all 4 corners.
Please let me how it goes

A mate replaced his 4 year old Samsung 55in TV (a 7100?) with the new series 7000 55in TV. Consensus is it was a waste of money to upgrade.
      The things we noticed:
      - image quality about the same
      - nicer remote
      - voice activation very unreliable*
      - less inputs (now only 3)
      - better menus
      - includes 3d

At the time, I suggested he save his money as he had a perfectly good (equivalent) TV. A week later, he said he regretted the purchase because it was no better than the old one.

If you need a new TV, you won't be disappointed… But don't expect a great improvement from 5 years ago either. Wait for the 4k TVs if you want to see more of a difference.

      • I am adept with Siri and Google voice, but, I only had about 30% success rate with this device. My friend had no success. Voice activation will either learn or will never work reliably. Only time will tell.
  • Just got the UA55H6400AW…NOT as good as my old Samsung 55" with Ultra Micro Dimming (Micro Dimming Pro on 7000 series ???). I paid about $200 extra for this feature on my old TV and I think that it makes all the difference. I only use them for computer (no TV).

UA55H6400AW has dark picture and looks faded. New menu system is crap…display pop-ups for upgrades is annoying. Mute keeps on activating (button on side of remote). Remote is small and limited in features, but works fine (voice control works most of the time - not recommended).

Great price for an average TV…

    • Samsung Micro Dimming does not dim the LED backlight. It is a software image processing trick to boost contrast between different parts of the image frame.

      • Wish I saw your 2nd link last week…
So I got the Samsung with Micro Dimming Ultimate and Samsung with Micro Dimming Standard this week from HN.

Micro Dimming Ultimate is great !!!
        Micro Dimming Pro…mmmmmmm ?
Micro Dimming Standard is crap ! The white start-up logo is grey (NOT white) and is faded (maybe I can turn it off and ignore the issue - Boot Logo: Off). What a rip-off…

        • I feel your pain…
